THE Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has published a medical bulletin to prove that Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo is fit to compete in the Olympic football tournament in Greece.
The Old Trafford player was selected in Portugal's 18-man Olympic squad much to the anger of his club as he will miss the start of their Premiership campaign.
United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz, who himself is Portuguese, had told Portuguese newspaper A Bola that the call-up could exacerbate niggling injuries after his gruelling summer in Euro 2004.
The FPF issued a statement on its website, saying: "The player Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at the training camp on August 1.
"He was examined by the medical department of the FPF as he had been diagnosed as tired which for the start of the season is not surprising," said the statement from team doctor Nuno Campos.
Reduced training
"During the training camp, the player did a reduced training schedule and specific treatment and only took part on 45 minutes of the game with Paraguay.
"On August 7, Cristiano Ronaldo underwent a magnetic resonances scan, not for medical reasons and nor for any specific symptoms but because the manager of Manchester United had insisted on it.
"Given that the medical examination and the scan were negative the player was considered fit to continue playing for the national team although with a training schedule that is suitable for the start of the season.
"Regarding the injury mentioned, two orthopaedic specialists were consulted and they agreed with our decision."

I wonder who is paying the wages to Ron, is it MU or the Portugese FA ?
And who will be responsible if Ron get seriously injured or over played ?
It is no longer just a sport or game, it is a multi millions business too.
I dont mean we should not play for our country, but there are always priorities, the World Cup or even European cup, yes, but the Olympus ? Especially after a hard season and also the Euro 2004 ?
It will do more for his confidence playing with Portugal, than OT at the moment United are really in a poor state due to poor management and terrible transfer dealings.Sean Philips is better than Giggs but United can,t afford to buy quality.
I wonder how far this story has to go. Fergie is clearly spitting feathers, insisting on a MRI. How happy will Ronny be that SAF wants him out of an event that he desparately wants to play in?
What sport is the poor mans Ronaldo competing in?? Is it the Gymnastics or has he made the Diving squad????
What are you some type of rare idiot??? Giggs holds how many medals and trophy's in his collection. What has Sean Philips proved. AHHHH let me think. Nothing!!!! He has 2 good gamed and people think he's better than giggs. I hope its real football your watching and not some FIFA video game. No wonder your team does absolutely nothing in the season.
Plenty of opinions regarding this subject so might as well have mine......What on earth are Tennis, basketball, football, baseball doing in the olympics in the first place??? If they have to be in there(we all know its mighty dollar driving it) then go back to the original idea of amateurs...if there is such a thing these days!
The lack of passion for the club and the badge is claringly obvious (yep I am talking about Ronaldo/Hienze), please don't give me the honour of playing for your country and a one off chance. What should be upper most in their minds is the well fare of Man Utd.....Ok I am sure I will get slagged off here but due to our current player crisis they should be aware and be asking to be released especially Hienze who I assume is being paid and hasn't even met his teammates yet? Yep we all knew the olympics was coming and yep the club can ask for them to be released...but at the end of the day I blame the players just as much they can always say no thanks.
I don't see why Ronaldo would be so tired after the olympics that he'll require a rest till November. Yes, he played till the end of Euro 2004, but he hasn't played since. He didn't have to travel the America, and he didn't have to play in any pre-season friendlies. If he weren't in the Olympics, he would still have been playing tiring matches for United, just like the rest of the team. Does this mean the whole team needs to rest till November because they played 5 games at the start of the season? If anything, Ronaldo should be in optimal condition upon his return, and should be able to slot in immediately. Fergie is just upset at his absence & so is blabbing out about everything.
