Which is why it was no surprise to see not a single empty seat in the house at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
For all the talk of 15-minute boycotts, it was business as usual at the Theatre of Dreams, which is surely the greatest threat to the Red Knights' hopes of ousting the Glazers.
Wave all the green and gold scarves you want - and David Beckham sported one as he came off the pitch - it's only when United fans talk with their feet that the club's much-maligned owners start to listen.
Beckham said: "I'm a Manchester United fan. When I saw the scarf I put it round my neck - it's the old colours of United.
"To be honest, it's not my business. I'm a United fan and I support the club, I always will.
"It's nothing to do with me how it's run. That's to do with other people.
"I support the team. I will always support the team."
It was always going to be a big ask to expect supporters to stay away on a real glamour night.
And there's the conundrum.
At a time when the big matches just keep on coming, when will United's disillusioned support be driven to stay away?
Fulham on Sunday looks a far more likely opportunity to make a stand - but after that the chances become increasingly limited.
Chelsea, Liverpool and at least one more Champions League opponent still have to come to Old Trafford before the season is out - so what chance any empty seats on any of those occasions?
Green and Gold
If there was any danger of the Green and Gold campaign choosing this night to make their most forcible point - Sir Alex Ferguson chose his programme notes to appeal for unity.
"I don't think I really have to ask you to get behind the team this evening," he said in full tub-thumping mode.
"Old Trafford will be rocking, just as it was when we took on Manchester City in the Carling Cup semi-final with so much to play for.
"Whether you are wearing the traditional red-and-white or the protest green-and-gold scarves, we will be united and speaking with one voice to get us safely through."
He needn't have bothered. While green and gold - the colours of this particular revolution - punctuated Old Trafford's stands, protests went no further than scarf waving and banners. It will take more than that to make the Glazers pack their bags. If the Americans have proved anything, it's that they have the stomach for the fight.
Near riots didn't stop their acrimonious takeover in 2005 - and so far the signs are that no amount of supporter unrest, nor the sum of £1.5bn will be enough to convince them to sell up.
For their part, they insist they are in it for the long haul. And even if it took the world record sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to avoid United making a loss for the last financial year, they appear unmoved in their intention to remain in situ.
Nights like Wednesday's would have done little to convince them to walk away - which is another problem for those desperate to see them off. The success just keeps on coming.
Arguably United's most reviled owners have presided over the club's greatest period of success. Love or loathe them there is no denying United have collected trophy after trophy during their five-year tenure.
Three successive Premier League titles could become four this season. Last night's hugely impressive victory against AC Milan has put them a step closer to a third successive Champions League final. While the `Love United Hate Glazer' strewn from the Stretford End is evidence enough of supporter unrest, should United triumph in either the league, Europe or both this season, that will be the enduring memory of the campaign, rather than the banners.
It was notable that it wasn't until the last 10 minutes of a match that had long since been won that the anti-Glazer murmurs became a roar. The loyal supporters deserve credit for as much. As much as they "Hate Glazer" they "Love United" - and no amount of dissatisfaction could be allowed to jeopardise their idols' European pursuit.
Whether they can stick to that philosophy and still succeed in their bid to oust their American owners is the million dollar question.
The Manchester United Supporters Trust currently boasts nearly 127,000 members.
The Red Knights have advanced their takeover campaign by appointing a team of financial advisors.
Ironically, the men concerned advised United on its £790m takeover by the Glazers five years ago. Guy Dawson, an investment banker from financial services group Nomura, will lead the team along with Andrew McNaught.
What do you think? Have your say.

And there's the conundrum.

No conundrum because the boycott was never officially supported by MUST or IMUSA. Hence it didnt happen.

1. Will they lower or freeze ticket prices - NO
2. Will they put all profits into the transfer kitty - NO
3. Will they and their red knights refuse to take out a penny profit in dividends, bonuses and salaries - NO
4. Will thye be able to promise that they will not brrow money from the major financial institutions to ensure the continued success of Manchester United - NO
Don't be fooled or bullied. Anyone with green and yellow on who tries to block my entry to Old Trafford will regret it.

The green and gold protests mean nothing unless they are backed up by action. There will be inflation busting rises in season ticket prices and the green and gold brigade will be happy to pay them. Ok... they won't be HAPPY to pay them... but they WILL.

Teddy, Teddy, Teddy, firstly lets get one thing straight no United fan has ever considered the Glazers as 'saving graces', as i've said before we are still the only supporters to protest from day one about foreign ownership, we are United not Siddy fans who welcomed both the Arab and the dodgy Thai with open arms, for one reason and for one reason only, thats right to try and catch up with United, in other words whored yourselves to anybody.
As for 'hanging ourselves' because we protest about somebody meddling with our club then please read above, once the Arab has had enough you might have to eat large pieces of humble pie, one day you Bitter fools will realise that they are here to make money like the Glazers, Mike Ashley, Gillete/Hicks and Portsmouth owners etc, they want to eventually rape your club, when this happens you won't be able to find enough rope to hang yourselves, you'll be that far up there backsides.

There will be no need for boycotts if and when we stop winning trophies - the debt will be unsustainable with the fall in income. We cant go on winning forever and sooner or later Fergie will be gone and Giggs/Scholes and Neville retired. We wont be able to afford to buy top talent and can look forward to years without the great success of the past years.
Its truly pathetic to think that a club of our size, populatity and income streams could reach this position. Thats what the Glazers have given us!!

If what you said was true and thats very doubtful coming from a lying Bitter then the 60% of season ticket holders (55000 season ticket holders) would equate to 33000, which taken from our capacity of 76000 would then equate to 43000, which by my reckoning is above your average gate attendance and is actually 14000 more than you got this year against Stoke in the cup.
Don't times change? Well yes and no tweetie pie, we've gone from strength to strength and you've been absolutely crap for four decades and counting.
Keep off the Trill mate.

Was James Robson at the match? A Premier League club has never seen so many fans chanting like that against the owners. It just proves how clued up the Utd fans are. Even with success we still care are about the debt burden on the club and its future.
steve chew, usa (11/03/2010 at 13:24)
Don't forget, the ones 'helping' the Red Knights today were the very mercenaries helping the Glazers 5 years ago. End result - they win, the fans lose. Becareful for what you wish for.
We oversees fans are in no position to affect gate attendance but we certainly contribute MORE to MU's ability to compete on the world stage by making it financially profitable to televise MU games. MU's TV rights are many times more than the gate receipts. Don't let your local perspective destroy the club internationally. GO MU!

Mass boycotts were never going to take place this season, season tickets have been paid for so boycotting would be pointless; the main objective has been to raise awareness and build momentum.
The time for the G&G campaign to show it's worth will be once the season ticket renewal forms go out. I for one will not be renewing next year and I know a lot of others who are not renewing either. However, we need a mass non-renewal in order for it to be effective.
This is why the Red Knights have to come out and let their plans be known as soon as they can, then mass boycotts/ non-renewal to force the Glazers hand will be a real possibility!

according to the commentators on 5live on the way home, the glazers were looking around the stadium during the protests and laughing. They simply dont care about the protests, as long as you are paying into the ground in the first place.

I replied yesterday to this and you still dont understand !
if OT is 40% filled that = 30,000 bums on seats.
Last time I checked, the berties had 28,000 seats on bums again stoke !!
hahaha love it. You couldnt make it up
Free Red, Manchester (11/03/2010 at 14:17)
Try and keep up at the back! If there had been a protest outside Old Trafford last night not only would I have known about it I would have joined in. The fact is the idea considered and rejected by all the fans groups in January because it would have been pointless. The Glazers were inside the stadium, the cameras were inside the stadium and thanks to the ACS all season ticket holders will have already paid for their tickets.

'Give up your season tickets and there will be 3 others ready to buy it up'
even your first sentence is wrong, so i didnt bother reading the rest. OT tickets have not been in high demand this year, besides last night there have been spares knocking about for every game. Even City at home went on general sale to members. i bet you think there is a 20'000 waiting list for a season ticket, just like David Gill.

It's just a thought becasue i'm pretty close to someone who works at the club who has seen an official design for a yellow and gold second kit for next season.
The Glasers are definitely considering it.
