Ferguson has been frustrated by the player's injury problems this season and believes he is not the dominant figure he once was.
With Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan ready to spend in excess of £20m for a player who cost £7m when moving to Old Trafford four years ago, it is considered too good a deal to refuse.
Ferguson has started rebuilding his defence for next season with the signing of Fulham's Chris Smalling, while Jonny Evans is expected to play a more prominent role.
The 28-year-old Vidic has played only 18 times this season and hasn't figured at all in 2010.
Despite both he and Ferguson insisting there is no rift, his days at United look numbered.
And even though Vidic moved to quash speculation about his future, it is known that his family have struggled to settle in England.
He said: "I have never had a conflict of any kind with Sir Alex and speculation that I want to leave United is completely untrue.
"I have a contract until the summer of 2012 and intend to see it through to the very last day.
"United have made me the player I am today and there is no substance whatsoever in rumours that I have been looking for a move to either Real Madrid or AC Milan."
Vidic has looked a shadow of the player who helped United to a hat-trick of Premier League titles in his first three full seasons at the club.
Three successive red cards against Liverpool have enforced the belief that he is no longer at his peak while injury problems have forced him to sit out large parts of the campaign.
But he insists he is close to forcing his way back into Ferguson's plans.
"I will be back to my best as soon as I am picked in the starting line- up again," he said.
Should United cash in on Vidic? Have your say.

What is perhaps worrysome is the injury history of Rio. If he was a stallwarth, i think releasing vidic would be un-problematic. However, given Rios track record regarding injury and the fact that he is on the wrong side of 30 raises questions. I dont see Evans and the unknown Smalling taking us to another CL trophy just yet
Oh and please dont bring up the Pique debate again. Young players come and go, thats the nature of football business.

back to the subject matter : ok, none of us know for sure, but previous history of SaF (be it Ruud, Becks etc) coupled with the modern REAL media that do seem to get more of things right tells us that Vidic is gone.
those arguing the fact, are deluding themselves, imo.

From what I've seen of Evans and Smalling, I don't see either player being a dominant, battering ram. Wes Brown often gets slated on this board, but in thefirst leg of the Carling cup at Wastelands, he was the only united player getting his head to the many crosses and free-kicks pumped into our box, I can't remember Evans getting his head to much at all and this has been evident in a number of games since. From the little I've seen of Smalling, he looks similar to Rio in style, hence my concerns at this possilble pairing.

That means Vidic is forcing Fergies hand. He can't afford to let him go for nothing at the end of next season, so has to cash in on him now.
And by god do you need the money!

Your post has got right to the core of the apple. 'Intend to see it through to the very last day'. If an intention of non-cooperation could be both veiled and clear at the same time, there's the example of it.

Is this a direct quote from Fergy? If Ferguson really believes Vidic isn't the dominant player he once was, surely those other clubs mentioned would be of the same opinion and therefore would be very unlikely to dish out 20 million on a so-called has-been.
The fact that most United fans can relate to is that Vidic is a class above Evans, Brown and Smalling.

I don't recall SAF ever having made disparaging remarks against the present ownership. Perhaps loyally or politically, he continues to maintain that he has whatever funds he needs for transfers; truth be told, he has all the funds he needs for transfers out!. While Vidic may or may not be forcing our hand, this still has the stench of those money-grubbing Glazers!

Vidic is a rock and all efforts should be made to keep him.
