LEADER OF THE PACK: Wayne Rooney celebrate his goal against Portsmouth

Wayne Rooney has developed into a killer hitman!

That's how United full back Patrice Evra has hailed the England striker's new mindset.

Rooney's opener against Portsmouth on Saturday was his 23rd of the season and saw him equal his best ever haul for a campaign.

He is the only player in the 20s in the Premier League so far this season.

"Wayne understands what the team needs and we're seeing what a great player he is," said Evra.

"He is a world class player and is getting his just deserts because now he is more mature, he concentrates more on staying around the box.

"He's not lost any desire to still press the ball and things like that, but now he knows he needs to score a lot of goals because Ronny (Cristiano Ronaldo) has gone and he needs to score more.

"He's changed his mentality. Now he wants to score, he wants to be a killer and that is very important for us."

An ideal scenario would be if Rooney and Ferdinand picked up injuries 20 seconds before the end of The Champions League Final, against Barcelona or Madrid, when we are 3-0 up. Not too serious, but enough to keep them out of The World Cup. They would then be fresh for next season! We can but dream.

We're doping OK there for now thanks, as our recent form suggests.

We don't really need a Keano type just now with Fletch running the legs off any opponent, what an athlete this boy has turned into!

Watch Roo when he is off the ball. His reading of the game, the positions he gets into, knowing the positions of his team mates, he is in a class of his own.
I have been a Stretford Ender for 44 Years, Rooney is without doubt one of the best players I have seen in a United Shirt.

Lets hope Wayne can help United lift the Premier League Trophy,& England lift the World Cup.

Red btit in it, to be brutally honest Dave Allen did have a great deal of wit in that missing half finger. I do remember it spawned a fair few gags.

David Allen, your famous namesake had more wit in his missing little finger than you have in your whole anti-English body. If England doesn't win the World Cup with a Wayne Rooney goal then I hope France do to reward them for Henry's handball. Why don't you support Glentoran?

I think you are missing the point. How many United players have played in games for England and returned injured? Loads. Have any of the cretins at the FA ever done us any favours? No, they hate United. Can you imagine (perish the thought) if England won the World Cup, the media frenzy would be unbearable. Do want to see Lampard and Terry cropping up on every talk show, and in every newspaper? No neither do I. They would all be knighted. Let's leave supporting England to the Aldershot, Scunthorpe and City fans, because thats all they have to cheer. How can you possibly boo Terry and the like one week, then cheer him the next? You can't. I rest my case.

I think the next two league games will tell us a lot about whether number 4 in on its way or not. We will have a fresh Scholes in the squad as well as Giggs for Wednesday. I think we need not rush Vidic back in just yet but I wouldn't complain either. We get a whether we like it or not free weekend this week ahead of Milan so I wouldn't rest Wazza just yet. So Wednesday i would go

VDS. Raphael, Brown, Evans, Evra, Carrick, Scholes, Fletch, Rooney, Nani, Giggs. subs Berb,Diouf, Owen, Valencia, De Laet, Park, Vidic, Kitkat.
Keep it tight first hour, All to the hay field for the last half hour.

I am a City fan through and through and whilst I can never smile at the success of a player wearing a United shirt, he is also an England player and he will be the difference between success or not this summer, he absolutely is that important. I do envy you having him in your squad and actually like his attitude, focus and unswerving dedication to being the best player he can be (even if he is from the City we don't mention)! Just think how many he will score playing alongside Torres at Eastlands next year - light the blue touch paper and go...
