The initial 500 consignment of the scarves were snapped up and sold out for the Hull match as supporters visually and vocally expressed their disapproval of the club's American owners.
United's support agreed in principal with Sir Alex Ferguson's call for loyalty, but believe his words in his match programme notes indicated for the first time publicly that the manager recognises that all is not well.
Though Fergie implored the fans not to let their unhappiness with the financial situation the Glazer's have dumped on the club to be "divisive", they refused to let the platform for a vocal and visual demo against the Glazers to pass.
There were constant anti-Glazer chants during Saturday's 4-0 win against Hull. And even though a semi-final second leg success against City is paramount, the protestors won't be silenced on Wednesday.
A further delivery of 1000 green and gold scarves - which have become the symbol of the anti-Glazer protest and based on the colours of United's predecessors Newton Heath - will be on sale before the derby.
"We are not forcing the pace with the green and gold protest it is going to happen naturally," says Duncan Drasdo chief executive of MUST (Manchester United Supporters Trust).
"The symbol has a power that has excited people and the momentum is happening without any need to force it.
"The transparency of the bond issue document has angered fans and those previously who were in the wait-and-see camp can now see exactly what's happening.
Fans' mood
"People didn't always believe you before when you explained the financial situation but that document has changed that. It was a turning point.
"It's not just the fans either, I have a feeling there is a different mood running through the whole club now."
Ferguson called for unity in his programme notes.
"The family of Manchester United is under pressure as a result of all the issues and controversies surrounding the ownership and financial situation of our club," he wrote.
"Everyone is entitled to their opinion and to express their disapproval if they don't like what they see around them, just as it has always been the right of fans to let it be known if they are not happy with the way their team is playing.
"Some of our fans are clearly unhappy with the financial position but we mustn't allow the situation to become divisive. The danger is that we could be presented as being split, which would be harmful and inaccurate because I believe the vast majority of United fans are behind us and appreciate the importance of standing together in support of the team.
"I could see our opponents rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of watching us fall out among ourselves if we don't all think carefully about what we are doing.
"We must remain loyal to the cause of Manchester United. The staff and players should be quite one-eyed about that and stay true to the history of the club and all the work done by Sir Matt Busby and the other managers who have contributed to creating the great club we have at Old Trafford today. "This is not about stifling criticism; it's simply a plea to stand together."
CEO Drasdo said, "It is very important to be loyal and the fans have always been loyal to Fergie and the players.
"He talks about the Manchester United family and he's right all strands of the family must come together to accelerate the change of ownership because we certainly don't see the Glazers as part of the United family.
"I thought Fergie's words smacked of a conciliatory gesture to the supporters and that he understood our concerns. He has not defended the Glazers in his notes!"
Drasdo launched Reds in Business last September to build relationships between businesses owned or operated by United supporters.
The group now has 2500 members and there are many wealthy businessmen among their number. The bond document has sparked off fresh interest in a possible takeover among prosperous United fans.
"People are doing the sums. They want to know what the options are," says Drasdo.
"The conversations are happening in the United business community."

"And even though a semi-final second leg success against City is paramount...."
I would say the long term future of our club is paramount, more so than any match.
We need to ensure the general public understands why OT is decked in Green & Gold on wednesday night and beyond.
Not been impressed with the signs from this Drasdo fella over the past couple of weeks, but he's absoulutely spot on with what he has said in this article.
500 scarfs amongst 74,000 people yup that a protest. Instead why don't you find buyers for the club willing to put up the money. The Glazers are not going to sell even if there are 76,000 green and yellow scarfs in the stands. Money is what counts.
I think this is still not enough to get the glazers out. Once tickets are sold out they will find no reason to depart. I believe only by match boycott will they leave as it will be nonsense for them to stay if no one buys the tickets.
The protest is based on the love for the club. It is not divisive. It is a galvanising force borne of loyalty. How anyone can argue against that fact is not a true Manchester United supporter.
There is something strange happening around Wayne Rooney.
It is whispered that Manchester United have asked him to open talks on a new contract, but he is refusing to negotiate until after the World Cup. The club deny this, saying they are perfectly happy to wait until the summer, too. Yet the rumours persist.
All the while, stories linking the player with a major transfer to Spain — Real Madrid or Barcelona, obviously — appear with increasing regularity
London, Jan 25(ANI): Manchester United's owners, the Florida-based Glazer family, are planning to spend another 54 million pounds of the club's cash to fight off their huge debt.
The figure represents fees and charges incurred as part of an operation to raise 500 million pounds through a bond issue to give the club breathing space.
The unpopular owners had to pay 15 million pounds to investment bankers and lawyers just to set up the bond issue. They then had to splash another 39 million pounds as a charge for effectively refinancing their debt.
Its great to see the whole movement gathering momentum...im definately getting my scarf on wednesday if i do get to see them still available. what i do hope is that, the players dont get destracted by this action and in their hearts they also believe in the course and support what we are trying to do to save this great club...LUHG!!!!
The match goes on...................................................................................................
Change we need and now.
I think this is still not enough to get the glazers out. Once tickets are sold out they will find no reason to depart. I believe only by match boycott will they leave as it will be nonsense for them to stay if no one buys the tickets.
KAy ,
buddy i think the only time an action like that will be neccesary is when we do know for certain that there is/are a buyer(s) in the wing and the "so called" buyer has the cash to buy...no loans and also with absolute good intensions for the club...untill then its absolutely a rubbish idea to boycott a match...whats the point??? remember we are trying to get rid of these guys for the good of this club but not destroy it in the process.....
Nothing but a bunch of self promotionalists looking for a 30 second slot on SKY TV. They don't underdstand the funding of modern businesses or the right to take out £10M in admin expenses if you have been bold enough to secure the funding of the business in the first place.
These idiots will detrract from what we want to achieve on the pitch on Wednesday and play straight into City's hands. There is no weaker opponent than a divided one. Anyone in green and yellow(not gold) should be turned away on Wednesday.
Danny Wilmslow - "They then had to splash another 39 million pounds as a charge for effectively refinancing their debt" This is from that oracle of financial wisdom The Sun. Itself taken - out of context - from its more sensible sister paper the Times where it was still mischeviously misquoted. This 39 million has NOTHING to do with the bond issue as a fee. Some of the proceeds will be used to cover the 39 million that was lost on an interest rate swap that went wrong. It was intended as a hedge but the floating rates went to negligible levels so it cost us. The fee for the bond issue is the 15m and would seem a reasonable fee for raising 504m.
The less than great financial situation has been fluffed up by the press to levels way beyond the reality so they can write more transfer stories. Which will be then used by the spanish gutter press. So you can expect rooney and vidic stories a-plenty from now until the end of summer irrespective of the reality so you'd better get used to them. but even you must understand that selling rooney would be the stupidest thing we could do financially so why would they?
No-one is claiming that even with a ground full of G&G scarves that the Glazers will turn and run.
This is about bringing together all different groups of our support in a visual protest that shows how many people are against Glazer. Scarves won't be the final answer, but for now they will drum-up support and unite us.
More scarves are on their way to the stalls outside Old Trafford, more are available in the shops and internet sellers.
Green and Gold!!
The Glazers wont be running form Green and Gold scarves, we need to hit them where it hurts, and to these greedy cowards thats the pocket. 73000 at OT last weekend we didn't sell out the sign of things to come. We need to boycott a game soon.
Danny, Wilmslow. If you are going to cut and paste stuff at least tell us where you copied it from.
Scarfs are simply not enough irrespective of the colour. you buy tickets and fill out the stadium. why should they leave. until the fans boycott matches thes leeches will not leave. i wish my voice could be heard by Drasdo.
D.S, Stockport, i think you have made sensible point. but i just cant stand it anymore-the prospect of our club falling whiles city rising.I read a weeks ago that a consortium from China and Qater were interested but the glazers(yes, small g) were not willing to sell.
An absolutely pointless exercise except for sellers of green and yellow scarves, who'll be minted.
I don't think dressing up as Norwich city fans is the answer to our problems. We need to get behind the team on Wednesday, all this G&G business is such a distraction
Baldrick Research is what you need to do or read all the daily papers try looking under MUFC in the mail then go down to see what all the papers say!

James me old son. This is not about beating City in the useless cup, or Liverpool, or Arsenal, or Chelsea, or AC Milan...its about the survival of Manchester United. The stakes are much higher. Is that lost on you? If it is then it beggars belief.
The players are professionals. They are not fools, they understand what is happening to the club but cannot speak out if they wanted to. The vast majority of footballers are from working class backgrounds. They come from families who have stood on the terraces for years watching football as 'real people' who know the game. The same kind of people who watch Utd week in-week out. The time for treating people in this manner is past.
The published figures have spelt it out in black and white for all to see. Even if you found a member of your family in a small business, with their "fingers in the till" the way the Glazers have been "shopped", you would be hard pressed to invite them in your home ever again. Wise up son. Change may not be inevitable but it is necessary.
steve in Brussels, I don't think it will happen but it could just be that Rooney is waiting to see what investment there is in the team in the summer and if none he might just decide to go. Even Rooney can't carry this team forever! Given the dire finances it is hard to see any significant investment unless the Glazers incur even more debt or they start selling assets as they are threatening to do. I have to agree with alot of people on here, the only possible way to get the Glazers to sell is by boycotting matches. Even then it will take an offer they can't refuse.
Dom Thorrington, why is a green and yellow scarf needed when the fans were chanting LUHG? Even fans without the green and yellow scarves.
Do you thinkthe Glazers would be oblivious to 50,000 chanting but suddenly startled by 500 people in scarves?
Seems like another scheme to part me from my money. No better than the Glazers merchandise.
Wouldn't it be better to have some actual ideas rather than posturing and gesture politics that will achieve precisely nothing.
Hopefully there will be a change soon in the running of our supporters groups and we get real supporters who are interested in the club and the fans and not toerags interested in making money for themselves. It's about time this lot of charlatans were banished.
I picked up the Times this morning and turned immediately to the report of the game, hoping to read of terrific performances by Rooney and Nani and being top of the league in what was a nice boost before Wedneday's game.
What did I find instead? There is a full page dedicated to United. The whole of the left column is an article about the anti-Glazer protests under the headline "Ferguson warns of divisions". The match report itself is basically a rant about how reliant we are on Rooney, how we are a one-man team, how knackered we would be if Rooney had followed Ronaldo out of the door in the summer and how Real have a serious interest in signing him this summer. There's then more talk about the debt and the protests before the final two short paragraphs mention the actual game. Turn over the page and Patrick Barclay has an article about how even a £10m contract may not be enough to keep him at United and that if United DO pay him that much they may not be able to afford to have quality players around him.
And that's one of the broadsheets - heaven knows what the tabloids are printing. The ABU media are taking every opportunity to stick the knife in to United because they can see the divisions within the fanbase. We should wise up - we have no control over the Glazers or the financial side but we do have control over our own actions and we should not be feeding the media with negative rubbish. They lap it up and it is not in our interests. SAF was right when he said we need to be united.
Despite the wails of the Glazer plants, the green and gold campaign can only be good for the team as it has re-energised Old Trafford and, for almost the first time this season, brought back some atmosphere.
There are no divisions amongst the support at Utd. Everyone is united behind Fergie, the coaching staff and the players. Yes, Wednesday will see more protests, but it will also see fantastic vocal support for the team. LUHG!
