Fergie vows to stick with kids

SIR Alex Ferguson is determined to stick with his youngsters for next Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

The United manager has used the competition to give the less experienced members of his squad some much-needed experience in recent years and that trend has continued this term.

Yet, a draw which pitched United into direct confrontation with a club whose 33 years without a trophy is immortalised on the Stretford End with a banner that ticks on one with each passing season, might have prompted a change of heart.

Most Reds fans would gladly accept losing to either Blackburn or Aston Villa at Wembley on February 28 if it meant City being denied a big day out.

But Ferguson refuses to be deflected from his original aim, so the likes of Darron Gibson and Danny Welbeck can expect to start at Eastlands.

"I will stick with the principle of picking young players on Wednesday," said the United chief.

"That is what we have done in the Carling Cup and we are not changing that."

The old back heel M11, talking of excuses I see Porcini has already got his in. Apparently City have an injury crisis and two players away in Africa and you have a very small squad. You couldn't make it up!

As for the game, we must continue to play our younger players (although we have no fit young central defenders, so we'll have to play older players there). Unlike City, there's no imperative to win the Carling Cup. We'd like to win it of course, but much more importent is the development of the younger players. It's critical for City though. The only way to accurately tell when City last won a trophy is by carbon dating. If United's third 11 beat City's first teamers Mancini will be in danger of losing his job. Not that he cares, he's already a made man.

I agree with SAF. This game is not only useful for their personal development, it will also be good expereince for them if they have to be called up to stand in for the more experienced players later in the season. As I said last season, the winning of silverware needs a whole squad, not just 11 regulars. We narrowly missed the sweep last season being in the s-finals in the FAC and lost in the finals in the CL. Try for the sweep this season. We are still in all the competitions.

To be serious, City desperately need to win something to justify a spend of £230m, with us its more about developing talent. So stick to your guns Sir Alex, play some of the 'nearly men' to give them some experience of the big time. In truth, since United played a 'reserve' side for both League Cup Final and FA Cup semi-final at Wembley last year, the chances are that our side will have more experience of the 'big time' than the City side anyway!

Please don't play the reserves, City will beat us easily if you do. This is no ordinary Carling Cup game, we have to win the tie. In case if people hadn't noticed, we are the defending Carling Cup holders therefore we should be going all out to win including playing our best players. And by the way City fans, I do care if we lose to you lot even if people are calling this the 'mickey mouse' cup.

What fun! All the bitters on our site cr@#%*ng themselves that they might get turned over by some of
our younger players. They are desperate for us to play kids so their overpriced tarts might actually have a chance to make a final. We keep forgetting what a MASSIVE club Citeh is in the premiere league. Now that they have some dosh from a towelhead, they think they can be successful.
It is their fate always to be disappointed and to remain bitter. Some things never change. The Sheik and his shekels will move on,and you'll be back playing Gillingham for a playoff place into the bigtime....... the Championship. Promotion and relegation is your level...... accept it.

Allyou knockers of Tevez look at the reported comments of Mancini.Himself world class player says Tevez world class.Critics will say thats only to butter him up.Pity Utd didn,t treat him that way,they,d sooner have runners,i.e Park that achieve very little.Agreed Park had a reasonable game V Wigan till it came to the final build up of a move that left him 15 yds from goal and clear route,the whole pub where i was watching said he won,t shoot as hes even now no confidence to have a go and predictably passed the buck and laid it out,coaches dream shall we say.Tevez would have smashed it goalwards and his many critics would say another easy chance missed by him.Who knows best Mancini or the numpty Tevez knockers
