The Spanish giants' ears pricked up when stories circulated that the 28-year-old's wife Ana was unhappy in England and fed up with the Manchester weather.
Vidic's agent Paolo Fabbri initially appeared to fuel the rumours, reportedly saying on Spanish radio that it was Vidic's "dream" to move to the Nou Camp and he'd be "delighted" to join the Spaniards. Fabbri later denied he made the comments.
Recently reports that Vidic is seeking to match Rio Ferdinand's pay packet have suggested more unrest.
But last season's Players' and fans' Player of the Season insists he's never even hinted he wants a switch to La Liga.
"I never said that. Other people speak about it and I can't do anything about that," he said.
"I never said anything. Other people write about it and I am definitely not happy with that. But it's how things are.
"I have said in the past what I think about it. I don't want to keep talking about these things because I can't stop them."
But Vidic, who signed from Spartak Moscow in December 2005 for £7m, says he's content to stay.
He signed a new deal in November 2007 that takes him to 2012. But reports have suggested he wants to up the £75,000-a-week deal agreed two years ago to the £130,000 figure that England defender Ferdinand earns.
But he's not forcing new talks on Sir Alex or the Reds' hierarchy.
“I am happy here. It depends on the club. We will see what happens,” he added.
“I don't want to rush and speak about my future in the media. I will speak to the club. I don't want to push the club. I don't want to push anyone.
“I am here. I am happy. I think I have shown in the games that I want to be part of the team and to play every game 100 per cent.
“I am glad to have been part of this club for so many years. It is nice. If I can be part of the future as well I would be very happy.”
Vidic, however, is less than happy with his personal season so far. He has struggled to reach his best form as he's been dogged by a calf injury and a suspension for a red card at Liverpool.
“It is not that I am not happy with my form. I am not happy because I have had a lot of injuries,” he said.
“All the time I feel something. That worries me but I don't have a problem with my form. I am 100 per cent fit now though.
“We need to get back to keeping clean sheets. It is very important for the team when you don't lose a goal. When you have stability at the back and don't lose goals it is easier for the forwards and midfield players.
“With the quality players we have we can always score. This year, not just Manchester United, all teams have lost more goals that last season. We need to improve that. I hope we will do better in the next games.”

I think when he goes you will have lost your best attacker and best defender within 12 months.
Its about time you started insisting some of that ticket money gets spent on keeping your best players happy. If the Glazers can't afford to own the club they should sell it to someone who can, which I'm sure they will do sooner or later.

I doubt Vidic will demand wages we can't afford. Imo, he is a fine player but a little slow, and when he crosses 30 he might become a big risk against fast strikers. We've seen that already.
In terms of business sense, getting 20-30 for him next summer might be wise but ONLY if we can get an equivalent or better player who is younger, cheaper and hungrier to play for us. Remember Beckham, Ruud and Heinze? Lets not mention Jaap, who was unbelievable replaced by larrywhite!. In the first 3 cases we replaced well and made plenty of cash in the process. Like it or not, we are a business and have to manage our resources wisely. The next Vidic is waiting in a youth team somewhere, maybe even at United already. We just have to find him and we've done it before. I reckon Evans will be as good as Vida in 2 years, and then much better for the next 10.
And stevi, while you lavish praise on the men that have saddled our once debt free club with unprecedented debt (just to pay for their takeover) remember that we are more or less in net profit from our transfers during their time. To expect them to not want to profit personally is insane - that is the ONLY reason they got involved. They are not fans, rarely are they even in the UK. They are in it only for the money. Our money. Wake up.

It will be a shame though as he is now the only decent player that you have left.

Perhaps Fergo will run the Vidic family to the airport in his Limousine like when he picked up Berbaflop.

The people who run your club and the sheep that follow it are deluded in that they think everyone wants to come to your club and noone ever wants to leave it, grow up and get a life!

Its as clear as the nose on your face that the Glazers know which side their bread is buttered and they're not about to shoot the goose that lays the golden egg....I suspect the Glazers will make their money when they decide to sell the club as the biggest, most sucessful club in the world and the queue to buy it will be a mile long.

"i would not sell that lot a virus "
I think you're taking things too literally, its a figure of speech and if you really want to hang on every word then he didn't sell them a virus he sold them CR :p
The point I'm trying to make is at the time he meant it and stuck to what he said but nothing is written in tablets of stone, things more on, SAF knew CR wanted to go to RM and the time had come to let him, he could have kept him against his will that would have been absolutely pointless....
Again with Campbell I'm sure he meant it but when Campbell went to Spurs he failed to hold down a first team place and hardly played at all. If he couldn't achieve that with their squad what chance with ours?........you can send players out on loan and providing they're playing & improving there's a benefit to it but if not then hard decisions have to be made...that's why SAF has been so successful.
Stam....bad judgement and SAF has admitted that and Stam is now scouting for us so bridges have been repaired....
look I don't always agree with some of the decisions SAF makes, some of the teams he's chosen I think god what is he doing, game against Spurs was probably one and look how they played.....but I do believe without question he makes honest decisions at heart with the best interests of our club!

I know you are one of the Neg Red minority rather than an In Fergie We Truster (IFWT) but most Utd fans on these pages stick up for their first team players come hell or high water.
bobbydazzler (27/11/2009 at 15:04)
I am a fergie fan and long may the great man reign, but i am no fool fergie won't but more importantly CAN'T say it but the glazers have his hands tied behind his back. it is to sir alex's great credit that he has kept us at the top but unless we spend some serious money we are in danger of being knocked off our perch. the next spending spree sir alex HAS to get it right we can no longer gamble on spending big money on duds. andersen nani hargreaves.

"Ronaldo was going nowhere as well wasn't he? Vidic is going for the simple reason that his wife says so! Get used to it. The people who run your club and the sheep that follow it are deluded in that they think everyone wants to come to your club and noone ever wants to leave it, grow up and get a life!"
Another load of unstubstaniated carbage! oops you're a bitter!...so you're reverting back to type...
