Gibson gets chance to shine

Darron Gibson

DARRON Gibson will start in Manchester United's Champions League Group B encounter with Besiktas at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old Irish midfielder is highly regarded by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and enjoyed a breakthrough season last term when he made 14 appearances for the Reds.

He was a key part of their Carling Cup success and marked his potential on the final day of the season when he scored the only goal of the game against Hull City with a spectacular long-range strike.

Ferguson was more cagey about the rest of his team but Gibson looks set to be among a number of changes to the side which beat Everton at the weekend, with Gabriel Obertan tipped to start his first European tie.

Young strikers Danny Welbeck and Federico Macheda will be on the bench at least but Rio Ferdinand (back), Jonny Evans (calf) and John O'Shea (ankle) have all been ruled out.

Just widh he was a bit more mobile, passes well and has a great shot on him, he'll probably be paired with scholes so can learn a lot from the master.

I would like to see Obertan given a start. Got hopes on that boy.

On another point regarding youth, going to watch Rahim Sterling (hopefully) play for the England under 16s on Thursday. Only 14 yrs of age, and meant to be the business. If he doesn't move to a bigger club very soon, he will play for QPR first team at 15. We are very interested in him.

I really hope to see Obertan given a start tomorrow, also Ando is due a start and may be paired with Gibson which would provide some timber in the centre of the park. I fear for Foster to as KitKat is due a go this could prove a huge game as to whether he stays or goes come Jan.

As for young Mr Gibson, what a great shot from distance, we miss that post CR7. I'd like to see Carrick
us his terrific shot more often.

Ideal game to give a few a run out. Anderson, Nani & Berbatov will be busting a gut to play and Danny Wellgood & Macheda will fancy their chances off the bench. There should be a rest day / sub's bench day for Valencia, Scholes, Carrick.
My team would be: Foster. Nev or Fab, Wes, Vid & Patrice. Nani, Gibson, Anderson & Oberton. Rooney & Berbatov.
They need to be careful that don't get over run in midfield as they did against he Ruskies.

Gibson is a good young player with a bright future but he will never be world class. We need young stars to come through the youth system like they did in the early 90's but at the present moment only Pogma looks like the only one whose got a huge potential. In saying this, atleast Fergie gives the youth a chance unlike some of the other 'big' clubs. I'm still unhappy with Ramsey though for choosing Arsenal over United as he is a United fan but Fergie didn't make enough effort to sign the lad! If you don't believe how good he is watch the Arsenal match tonight and see for yourselves.

He deserves his chance and these the games were his development will be measured.The one thing fergie likes about this lad is he has a thunderbolt of a shot and a eye for goal something lacking from our other midfielders.A question should be asked if he was not able to push Whelan or Andrews 2 players who would only dream of playing for United out of the Irish national side how will he get ahead of Anderson Fletcher Hargreaves Carrick Possebon to return and Giggs and Scholes finishing up next season these rare chances should be taken and he has to perform.

foster, De Laet, Brown, Vida, Evra, Nani on the right, Gibson, Scholes or Ando, Obertan, Berba and Rooney.

Think SAF wants to get Rooney scoring again, and playing with Vidic - they need it.

Ignore all of this though as i'm always wrong!

It'simple, we need to see whether these youngsters have got what it takes or not. So play him, and a few of the others, balanced of course with enough seniors to not see them over exposed, and to get the result.

Would love to see both Obertan and Macheda start, as I believe these two in particular could well be the real deal.

And to compound it all - De Laet isn't in the CL squad so my team's already a none starter. No more team predictions from me then... i'll stick with getting annoyed by tony "the deflection" valencia.
