Fergie eyes Wolfsburg striker Dzeko

A BLANK weekend in the Premier League calendar has given Sir Alex Ferguson time to write to Santa.

The United boss still appears to have Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko top of his festive wish-list.

The 23-year-old Bosnian striker impressed in the Champions League group match at Old Trafford in September, and will be closely checked on again next month when the Reds' visit Germany in the final match of their section.

Elsewhere, Edwin Van der Sar is set to be offered another 12-month extension to his United contract and is more than likely to accept.

However, Tomasz Kuszczak's Old Trafford future is still in doubt and could mean a search for another keeper in the January transfer window is on the agenda.

Fergie has said he will only enter into business this winter if he can get value for money.

He said: "I would like to do business but only if the prices are right - and that can be a problem in January."

Up front still remains his priority this term and the likes of David Villa (Valencia), Marouane Chamakh (Bordeaux) and Carlton Cole (West Ham) have all been linked with the Reds.

Berbatov was great value,we don,t need a striker he has KIKO and King they should get their chance.
We lack a top coach and thats the real problem along with the fact that Fergie retains players who should now be watching in the TVlounge with the ex players

Dzeko and Villa are the only ones on this list of players that I can imagine us being interested in. Chamakh is impressive but his strike record is pretty poor and Carlton Cole is hardly prolific either. That Dzeko is that bit younger would mean he is likely to be considered next summer. But there is no hope of trying for him in January I think. For one thing he wouldn't be eligible for us in Europe and secondly it looks like Wolfsburg will be in the knockout stages themselves.

Edin Dzeko looks a decent player, his goal scoring record was brilliant last season also seems to cope with the physical side of the game and offers an ariel threat,villa offers goals simple as that,chamakh was going to arse for about 8million last year so I dread to think what we would pay, also the papers on sunday saying we are weighing up a 20million bid for carlton cole better be rumours, our overspending on players is bad enough already.

He said that in the summer as well. Looks like another bleak transfer window. Unless he counts £30 million for Berbatov as value for momeny - then we'll see plenty of new arrivals.

I hope for all our sake that when Fergie leaves this great club, we continue to have success. But if we don't a small consolation will be the realisation that you have been talking out of your backside for so long.

Yes me makes mistakes but to claim he is not a 'top coach' is just plain stupid.

I suppose Berbatov, Valencia, Nani, Tosic etc. etc. were all value for money then!? Fergie really needs to get a grip. Anyone see Ramsey at the w/end? Now thats value for money at 5m who we could and should have signed and even announced that we had signed until Fergie looked so disinterested that Wenger moved in.
Dzeko is too slow imo, we need a goalscorer with pace which we now lack post Ronaldo.

United have already bought a young pacy striker to join in January. That would leave Owen, Diouf, Welbeck, Macheda and Nani all playing for a substitute forward role. There's no real logic behind adding another striker to that group this season. Perhaps next summer, but there's definitely not going to be a new striker purchase in January, we're not under that much pressure.

Ramsey chose to play for Arsenal so he was never coming to us.....I can't believe how negative you & other are despite all the sucess we're had and as things currently stand we're still in all competitions so why all this gloom & doom....perhaps you should go a support the second or third most sucessful club :p

Danny Wilmslow, berbaflop simply isnt good enough. Hes gone!
I work in Germany and believe me: Dzeko is a fantastic player.
Miles ahead of Berbaflop. He creates and scores goals.
Unlike d.villa Edin is a big strong and young lad.
Give wolfsburg 20m and get him !

As far as I know ramsay chose to join arse over us is because fergie was going to loan him back to his club for a year first before moving to us and he obviously wanted to play in the prem now.

Carlton Cole being mentioned is amusing. Just what we need an injury plagued overrated overpriced player. I'd sooner splash on a Villa or Dzeko than pay extortionate fees on average English players & comically City have fallen into that trap at least Owen didn't cost a fee though Carrick cost double he was worth IMO. We've got the 2 arriving in January I doubt very much the Glazers will make any money available til the end of the season.

Stevi, france, the facts are that Fergie has'nt made one outstanding signing since Vidic/Evra despite spending over 100m. Yes we are still successful but we would have had a far better squad had Fergie bought more wisely. As for Ramsey, he openly admitted that he signed for Arsenal because he was more impressed with Wenger than Fergie or whoever he spoke to at OT as there is some doubt as to whether Fergie even bothered to talk to the lad. This despite being a Man u fan. You might be impressed with Berba, Nani, Tosic etc. but I'm certainly not so keep your rose tinted blinkers on.

Stevi, France - Ramsey is a United fan who's hero is Ryan Giggs so was desperate to sign........ However, allegedly, Fergie had disappeared off to France for his well earned break and arranged for Gary Neville to meet Ramsey and show him around Carrington. Wenger arranged for a private jet to collect Ramsey and his family and flew them out to Austria for the full on charm offensive. He then unsurprisingly signed for Arsenal!! We lost out on a gem IMO

If United bought all the players being hawked around, we'd be spending £200m+ and not getting much quality in. Ooops - sorry, that's City over the last 18 months.........
