The United boss was charged with improper conduct by the FA after his post-match TV verbal attack on Wiley following the Reds 2-2 draw with Sunderland, when he criticised the ref for `not being fit enough'.
While the FA allow managers to comment on referee's performances they cannot make them personal or call into question their integrity.
On this occasion, Fergie overstepped the mark. He later issued a public apology to Wiley but it didn't avoid the FA rap and the Referees Association were unhappy with what they deemed a half-hearted apology.
Ferguson has been advised by former FA compliance officer Graham Bean in a bid to avoid the touchline ban.
He is set to cite the fact that no manager has previously been hit with such a dug-out suspension for their post-match comments.
As Fergie's verbal attack didn't come in the pitchside technical area, he'll argue that should avoid that punishment.
However, the nature of the fitness claims, which so upset the refereeing fraternity, is set to see Sir Alex being handed a hefty fine.
FIFA's hearing into Argentina coach Diego Maradona's comments after the recent World Cup tie against Uruguay will be held this weekend.
Maradona let loose with a foul-mouthed tirade after his side's 1-0 win and now faces a touchline ban.

What Fergie did was 10 times worse. He called into question the "fitness" of one of the top referrees in this country. He should serve at least a 3 match, touchline ban, as well as a £500,000 fine (all money going towards the development of Referees for the future).

Put him in the stands for a while where the temptation for him to blow a blood vessel will be less when sat next to his employers rather than the fourth official.

behave he spoke out of turn but basically what he said was the truth so the stalanists at the fa will as usual come down heavier on united than any other club.

Anyone who thinks the FA let United off easy need only look back to the incident at Stamford Bridge last year when Evra was subjected to slurs but ended up getting a 3 match ban. The FA favors London clubs, not United (and to be fair, probably not Citeh either).

Anyone can see that he know's he's the captain of a sinking ship and he is powerless to do anything about it. His 'first mate' has already left and he can't hire anyone else due to lack of funds.
I think he should receive mandatory pyschological counselling every Saturday/Sunday for the next 24 weeks. Teach him to respect those around him and when failure comes, turn the other cheek, accept the inevitable and don't try to blame anyone except those in his charge !
