My philosophy is that over the course of the season things will work themselves out evenly but after the match at Stamford Bridge it was hard to see that long term picture and be comforted by it.
Not for a while has one of the Big Four showdowns seen a red hot favourite installed to win the match.
But you have to say that was the position going into the match with Chelsea's form earning them the right to be the bookies' best bet.
After our more subdued offerings, it was hard to complain that United were being looked on as the underdogs. But you wouldn't have guessed it during the match.
However, it was all undone by Martin Atkinson's dubious refereeing. I know United will be the target of opposition fans complaining that we are always having a moan, but I would have held my hands up on this occasion and said it was a bad decision even if Chelsea had won that free- kick against us.
Forget the Didier Drogba's possible foul on Wes Brown when that crucial free-kick was delivered and the fact he was offside - it shouldn't have been a free-kick in the first place!
Blatant
It was harsh to give it and Darren Fletcher must be wondering what on earth is going on at the moment.
After being booked for diving against CSKA Moscow when he should have won a penalty, the Scot then suffered again when he tackled Ashley Cole. Both decisions were so unfair on him.
I don't think Sunday's match deserved to be settled like that.
And it's a pain that the Reds now have to sit and stew until the Everton match a week on Saturday.
But in those moments when they have time to reflect on the Chelsea game, they must look at the positives. For a start it was a far better performance than we've shown of late.
A big plus for me was Wayne Rooney's display up front and I feel we are entering another Rooney goal-blitz period.
The return of Fletcher is also a major boost as he endorsed the feeling that, while we might not have another Roy Keane or Bryan Robson, we do have somebody very powerful in midfield.

A bit of balance, please.
Refereeing blunders work both ways, remember THAT 50 yard Pedro Mendes 'goal' for Spurs at the scoreboard end a few seasons ago...?

if you want balance go and join the liberals or the WRVS, otherwise drop off the rear... this is no place for balance, it's for partisan biased blurb!!!!

You deserve every bad (or not so bad) decision going against you, your lot have been 'milking the system' for years and it couln't happen to a nicer bunch of whingers and their manager.

i think you girls should go back to criticising your wayne rather than our wayne, and mr hughesless is more than prone to venting his spleen isn't he?
managers all do what they do for their own club, some just happen to be old hands at it, others prefer to just winge, and others are rather pleasant about ridiculous decisions...

You talk of literacy with sixty four words in a sentence with no full stop!
Where were you dragged up!!

I think that you may have meant a period, a full stop by my reasoning would be the way city have performed in the Premier league this year. Look a period at the end of my sentence, does that make you happy sonny boy.
Now then, your question on where I was brought up (sorry to disappoint you, I was not dragged up). I was brought up in a village called Rhodes, just outside of Manchester. Born 1949, went to my first match at Old Trafford in 1956 with my dad who was a city supporter, saw Duncan Edwards play, went to the 1963 FA Cup Final against Leicester, went to the European Cup Final against Benfica, came to Canada in 1972 and still supporting and watching United at every opportunity I can get.

Now then Mr. tick tock, my supporter pedigree is not to bad is it and I never once mentioned ice hockey. I have probably seen more football matches in my life time, than you have had microwave dinners. I have played and coached football for over 50 years and yes, I CAN EVEN REMEMBER WHEN CITY WON SOMETHING.
Cheers

you're some man calling a 7 day old baby a throwback aren't you?.
I wonder if you'd be so brave as to repeat your drivel to Rooney's face, we all know the answer to that one don't we
City must be so proud to have supporters like you!
