The surprise summer capture from Bordeauxcould prove to be a £3m Sir Alex Ferguson bargain buy.
Nani has struggled to convince Reds fans and critics that he can be an Old Trafford fixture since his £18m move from Sporting Lisbon in 2007.
The Portuguese winger was hoping Cristiano Ronaldo's exit might open the door for him but, despite 10 starts, he has not grasped his chance.
Now 20-year-old Obertan aims to leapfrog him after overcoming the back injury he arrived from France with.
Though former United defender and French legend Laurent Blanc was shocked that Fergie decided to take a punt on the Under-21 international, who was under him at Bordeaux, Obertan is starting to excite United supporters.
And, while Nani started against Blackburn and CSKA Moscow, he wasn't in the 18 on duty at Chelsea on Sunday and Obertan came on at Stamford Bridge with another impressive substitute cameo to add to his late show against CSKA last Tuesday.
"After four months of just waiting and resting, I've been really looking forward to starting my career as a Manchester United player," said Obertan.
"I wanted to feel part of the squad, part of the group, and be involved in the games. So I'm feeling really good right now.
"At first I just want to be part of the squad, be in the group that travels to all the games, and get a few minutes in each game to begin with.
"Then, if I keep working hard and show what I can do, I have ambition. So, why not aim to be a regular in the team? I might need a year to achieve that, but I hope I can do it."

Giggs is on and off and somtimes he is fantastic but other times he lets the team down.

I'd like to see nancy tried on the right, tony's not done much and a bit of competition over there would be useful.

Anyone could have a brilliant understanding with Evra, he's such an energetic fullback all you gave to do is push the ball past the opposing rightback and watch Evra fly past them.
Hope it works out for Obertan though, unfortunately everyone is starting to claim he is better than Nani, which means that inevitably he'll soon start being compared against Cristiano just like Nani is, and from there there's only one way - down. Cristiano was a one off.

Only annoying thing is we wont recuperate the money lost on him as well as tosic if he's never going to get a chance, maybe use nani in a swap deal and cash for silva etc.

Not a bad idea, would be intresting to see valencia in a central position as apart from pace he is a poor winger couldn't see him setting up many goals from passes though or scoring loads but would provide energy and put nani in his actual position.

Nani is a superstar in the making. And Fergie knows that.
He will never sell him. Obertan is just something like Kanchelskys -
a good player.
Nani needs to focus on his football but believe me - he will become a
superstar for sure.

Obertan seems to know where players are, keeps it simple and read Evra like a book...hopefully SAF will start getting him on early or even start him so we can get a good look.

"nani's only superior weapon over him is his shooting as he packs a great shot"
Obertan is supposidly a free kick specialist so maybe that superiority will not last long...

We now have some very good options on the flanks - without even mentioning Park!
Sorry Danny but had Tosic shown anything in training then he would have had his chances by now?

I agree that Nani should be allowed time to make the right side his own with Obertan on the left, can you imagine the speed we would break out from defence at, frightening
All defenders know that Valencia is one footed, he will never be able to cross/shoot with his standing left leg only, therefore he is predictable and somewhat easier to defend against
My ideal team for the Everton game would be...
VDS, WES, VIDA, J EVANS, PATRICE, NANI (on the right wing), ANDERSON, FLETCHER, OBERTAN(on the left wing), ROONEY & BERBATOV
subs...
FOSTER, TOSIC, HARGREAVES, KIKO, OWEN, GIBSON, RAFAEL
Obviously I am more than likely kidding myself that SAF will actually realise Tosic's potential and include him on the bench and also that Hargreaves is close to some game time as we were told it would be November

if we do not give the players chances they will never shine
valencia is now starting most games, hes scored a couple of dodgy goals, and has one trick in his game..... nani could have easily scored as many and assisted as many (probably more) if we showed some faith in him

obertan looks ahalf decent player but please.
schmeichel denis cantona ronaldo keane robson you would have some merit if you said these lads were among the best signings ever. we have seen a few cameo appearances where the kid has done ok nothing spectacular and he has shown nothing to warrant your outrageaous claims.
bobbydazzler (10/11/2009 at 12:29)
have you actually watched united this season at all? . if you had you would have seen a masterclass on a few occasions from ryan giggsin left wing play. . obertan and tosic may come good but if they end up being even 25% of the player ryan has been then they will be ok. as for you assesment of him coming inside well my friend he must be the easiest player in the league to dissposses when he runs left to right.
paul keane (10/11/2009 at 12:29)
You can play nani for 100 games a season for the last three years and it would not make the slightest bit of difference,
anybody who knows football can see it,the only reason he is still with us is that he cost 14mill and Sir Alex paid it and knows he has thrown another 10 mill down the drain.
The glazers wont give him any more money and as far as i can see it i dont blame them.
bobbydazzler (10/11/2009 at 12:31)
you mention in your article the great andre kanchelskis who was a million miles better than tosic nani obertan park etc. the ukranian was a truly GREAT winger.
