Ferdinand has already been ruled out of Sunday's Premier League showdown with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after failing to recover from a calf injury that has been plaguing him for a couple of weeks.
However, Sir Alex Ferguson now fears the injury may be related to a lower back complaint.
"There has been no improvement," said the United boss.
"We are having to look at something different because usually you are back from a calf injury within two or three weeks.
"But there is no sign of recovery from this injury so we are looking at whether it is to do with his lower back."

Personally I hope he plays in all your games, Most of the opposing teams think so also.

And what's with the blues on here, shouldn't you girls be addressing why you've not won in the last 4 premiership games rather than getting concerned with our injured players...?? no thought not - you'll always be too interested in us.

was also exposed by Kenwynee Jones goal for which Foster was wholly blamed. Rio's injury or absence amplified that there is something
wrong with Vidic this season.
Fergie might be concerned that Vidic might be engineering his move. A couple of replacements might be in order. IMHO.

As fantastic as he is when healthy, Rio has become a liability when playing injured this season. This is a great opportunity for Evans to demonstrate that he's ready for prime time and perhaps begin to forge a real pairing with Vidic. I can't see a clean sheet, but I think we'll be surprised at how well our CBs play this weekend - provided that SAF selects the proper midfield players/formation/tactics. Left exposed, Vidic and Evans will have a long day.

I think Ferdi needs a change, maybe become a comentator on EUFA football on channel 5.
England need a replacement for him urgently, he is an absolute liability.

To be honest there is more chance Shawcross going to the world cup than Rio. He is bigger braver and it was another poor decision by Fergie to sell him.
Ancelloti believes Chelsea can capitalise on Uniteds midfield compared to theirs its pretty poor.
Also if Fergie tries another encore of all our yesterdays as he did with Liverpool he might as well give them the game.
We need to win this one we have been loosing far to often recently to our big rivals three in a row to a very poor Liverpool.
