WES Brown has revealed the full extent of Rio Ferdinand's injury woe - but reckons the England defender will come back stronger.
Ferdinand, who will be 31 on Saturday, reported a thigh complaint at the start of the season in August and he missed four games. Recent absences have been put down to a calf injury, according to United and manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
But Brown has let it slip that Ferdinand's back is the concern again.
"Rio has been injured for a very long time and he's been getting a lot of pain in his back for a long time," said Brown.
"I'm not sure how many months it's been going on but he's come to the stage where he's sorting it out now.
"When he comes back I'm sure he'll be a lot stronger. If you are not fully fit and you try and play it's very hard. Believe me, I know.
"Especially because of how fast the Premier League is now. And, if you carry on playing with that same injury, week in, week out, it does make things even harder.
"That's what happens and Rio's decided to sort it out."
Do you think Ferdinand will come back stronger? Have your say.

I can understand him having a back problem being kept under wraps, let's face it other players would make sure he takes a knock there during games, whereas a calf injury it is harder to attack.
But if it has been his back, have United done him any favours by letting him play with it? I think not, especially when we had Evans, although he too was playing hurt, and Brown (who has really only been on the radar the last few weeks). So let him have the necessary treatment and attack Rio's real problem, he can be back in time for the big push after Christmas. I for one would rather see him take the necessary time to regain his fitness, he is too valuable to us in the long term.

Ferdinand may not have vidic's bravery or get involved in either boxes enough for my liking but he's still been an excellent servant and defender for us, barring his drugs ban and contract problems he's been no trouble.
Obviously with a back injury it will take time to heal and will probably resurface as I found out myself jogging at the weekend, so maybe new cover needs to be found, as wes is hardly fit either so numbers are short, wenger picked up vermellan? for 10million and he looks a class act and he is also a danger in the oppositions box,our scouting system could probably do with an overhaul, always said they should just board the plane behind wengers scouts.

I agree with edinburgh red that it might be worth asking Wenger about a replacement. He, and his staff, are generally a much better judge of a player than our lot, although, in the context, Senderos is not a great example of a quality centre back and we can safely ignore that suggestion if it arises!!

Yeah real problem with age - Macheda, Rafeal, Fabio, Evans, Anderson, Gibson, De Laet, Welbeck, Cleverley, Obertan, King, Mame, Llajic, etc.
Go back to the darkside of the website before your watch stops and the season finishes for you again in January.

& commenting on Rio is amazing given their defence of £24 m Joleon Gorbachov & Kuato Toure.
Throw in the man with a sewn on head and it appears to me that the Sheikh Pilots are going for a remake of Total Recall, that way once they put a roof on the wastelands and seal the windows.....they can imagine they live inside a city where THEY have been winning trophies for the last 34 years !!......

Old and aging players? Mmmmm that's a toughie but how about Van de Saar for starters, Ferdinand? Giggs and Scholes? Mmmm how about the chuckle brother Neville? And last but not least how about old Bacon Face himself (who would now bet him breaking Matt Busbys managerial record in two years) I listened to him on the radio yesterday bleating on about Fletchers non penalty and to be honest I almost felt sorry for him as he blithered and blustered.
I'm sorry to say this Eddie old son but your days as the major force in football in this country are now numbered. Move over there' a new sheriff in town.
p.s Do you know if Ferdo has payed his car tax this year?

LOL you not having heard of them is evidence of your ignorance not their inability. By the way they are all better than Tevez just in case you need a heads up in terms you understand.

I was responding to your comment eluding to the fact that all our players were old and your response just served to prove that you don't know what the hell you are talking about. As for Ferdinand, he is coming up to 31 which is hardly ancient. While I was sat at OT watching Utd take 3 points off you I was thinking to myself "I bet only Rooney would get in Citeh's team"... or then again was I laughing at the sad Bitters in the corner? You really are delusional aren't you?

I actually did put Cleverly in. I thought the list was long enough as it was and since the recipient of the message didn't recognise most of the names I was obviously correct.
