Man, I really don't know what game this guy watched because these rating are nothing like the game I saw.
VDS - 5 poor for the first goal, Neville 6 ok, Brown 5 pulled all over the place, Evans 5 see Brown comment, Fabio 4 could not keep the guy in front of him, Nani 5 must be getting frustrated getting yanked all the time because he was not the worst performer out there, Fletcher 5 no authority in midfield did not protect the back 4 at all, Scholes 4 if not for the goal did not do anything, Valencia 5 just too one dimensional, Macheda 5 don't know how he lasted as long as he did, poor marking on their 3rd goal, Owen 5 seems to be missing sitters every game he plays. Rooney 5 needs to take a step back and look at his game lots of poor first touches.

Van der Sar: Won’t be thanking his defence for their protection but might not be wholly happy with his display should have done much better time to call it a day Kussak should start has the best stas of our keepers. 5

Neville: The steady skipper provided sterling defence and decent crosses but does not have the attacking qualities of Raphael or Delaet 6

Brown: The Joker once again him and Rio ARE LIKE THE MORCAMBE AND WISE OF FOOTBALL Not his best effort against the tricky Necid and unable to give Reds sound base 3. should be sold in January

Evans: Improve late on but was very unsteady in the earlier stages will never be good enough to lace Piques boots another average player 5

Fabio: One of the best players on the pitch stupid to take him off. 8

Valencia: Kept up his goal form as he refused to get too frustrated getting better 7

Scholes: Typical Scholes goal and would have had more but for impressive keeper Akinfeev 6

Fletcher: He is another nearly nearly man to give him any praise just shows how bad our midfield is response 4

Nani: His usual mix of mesmeric tricks and frustrating runs into brick walls 5
Not in the same class as Obertan or Tosic another one for the door in January

Macheda: A respectable effort on his Champions League debut. Two good shots and a header against post 8. Fergie made a mistake taking him off he is the future

Owen: A typical goal for his scrapbook but also some frustrating moments 7

Nani bashers are out again I see? Didn't play badly, but again made the scapegoat, at least he attacks and creates openings, he set Owen up I recall and also sent in a simillar ball in for Valencia to put in a cross for Owen to misskick....again!! Terrible that Nani, I blame him for all thats wrong in this world, I really do!!

I don't see anything in Macheda to make me think he will be a future striker with us. He likes the little fancy touches but I would rather see him making a nuisance of himself in the box with his size. He goes missing for large stretches of the game and he could learn a lot from Owen whose running off the ball is first class. In January I would unload Nani and loan out Macheda. With Diouf coming in maybe Wellbeck could use the playing time with a Championship side as well. Both Wellbeck and Macheda need to pick up some experience with one of the Championship sides. They have time on their side and I think Fergie may have a pop at Villa in January. Valencia are in trouble.

Danny in dreamland as usual. Just like to say that if Foster had played like VDS he would have been crucified on here. Not Edwin's best game. Neville turned back the years and had a great game. the central defence needed that game to be ready for Sunday. Fabio, unfortunately was totally exposed and found wanting. Will come good I'm sure. Obertan showed that Nani should be worried. Macheda unfortunate with his header and Owen took his goal well. Fletcher needed that run out to be ready for Sunday. Not our best performance but we kept going in the United way and got the result. Dreadful decisions by the referee for at least two stonewall penalties and to book Fletcher was absolutely disgraceful. Their Keeper proved he might be worth buying.

I'm not saying it was a great performance but it should be remembered that something close to the Carling Cup team pretty much dominated CSKA.

Some individual mistakes and profligacy infront of goal cost us tonight but there are some great over-reactions: Sam Davis for one and nanny, WILMSLOW for another.

Danny Wimslow - Gibson in defence instead of Brown? Fabio our best player? Go downstairs, open the door and go with the guys in white jackets. Our midfield got found out tonight with CSKA's passing and movement much better than our long humps into no where. VDS-4 beaten too easily at near post for first goal, Nev-6 Steady and better than O'Pies going forward, Evans-5 Poor but improved in 2nd half, Brown-5 Terrible, Fabio-4 Needs to defend better but still young, Valencia-6 needs to mix it up more, Scholes-5 Needs to retire (Regretfully), Fletch-7 Great effort, crazy yellow card, Nani-4 Aagggh!, Owen-5 Can't keep miss kicking golden chances, Kiko-7 Battled hard and unlucky with header. Subs: Rooney-6 Did OK but nothing like Ronnie would have done, Obertan-7 much more dangerous than Nani and mixed up his game more than Valencia. Ref-3 Too many dodgy decisions and 6 mins extra time? Macheda looked very interesting very quick feet and turns really well with his back to goal looks like a proper goal scorer if given the chance. Can't say I understood taking off Nani and putting him on the wing where he was obviously uncomfortable and then taking him off for Obertan immediately after he'd hit the post and we needed goals and Owen looked knackered? Obertan looked a bit better though showed some slick passing moves and a nice weight on the ball. So a couple of bright spots along with the fight back in an otherwise unimpressive game.

There's always time for Utd! Shame on the dopes who left early!

VDS: 5 - I know he's nearly 50, but he seems to have developed this worrying late career habit of basically never moving unless he's pretty sure he can save it (exhibit A being Messi's not overly brilliant header in Rome).

GN-is-a-Red: 8 - Last 20 minutes, he summoned the spirit of Stevie Coppell, Andrei Kanchelskis and that wantaway Portuguese greaseball and was absolutely storming. Unbelievable overlapping energy and, in the main, quality delivery.

Ab Fab: 5 - Beneath that wide-eyed, innocent-looking exterior, Fabio might actually be the dirtiest player in the Premier League. To be fair, that Krasic was well tasty on the ball. Reckless fouling was definitely required.

We've got Wesley: 5 - Orange-based slackness.

JE: 6 - Improved after a ropey start; some nice tackles and general shepherding antics.

AV: 5 - At the byline, given the choice between (a) crossing with his left foot or (b) crabbing backwards 50 yards to pass inside to Wes, he takes option (b) every sodding time.

SF: 6 - Looked a stonewall pen to me. Mind you, Super Fletch is the consummate midfield professional and, in the context of a difficult game, a tactical dive would not have been inappropriate.

PS: 7 - Along with Rafael da Neviller, was the chief architect of our heroic comeback. Played like an angry wasp after that Russkie hacked him down. Vintage ninja header.

Nani: 6 - He actually wasn't that bad. Having said that, not terribly good either.

EMO: 5 - Honestly, when you see the Liverpool academy producing players of the technical 'quality' of little Micky and Jamie Carragher, it's no wonder chubby Rafa sacked everyone responsible.

KM: 5 - He reminds of that old Sesame Street bit called, if I remember correctly, 'One of these kids is doing his own thing'. 95 per cent of the time, he's completely oblivious to his team-mates and is just sort of trundling about on his own.

Papa Waz: 7 - Made a big difference.

PE: 7 - Linked up well with Orangutang.

GO: 7 - Linked up well avec Patrice.

Nani was a threat. Looking at the performance at that stage, I would have said take Valencia off and keep Nani in.

First full game of Kiko's i've seen. It is an easy (and probably lazy?) comparison to make but there sure seem similarities with Vieri. Needless to say (well almost), he looks very promising.

The baseless Nani bashing continues. No where near the worst performer out there. Wonderful flick to Owen for initial goal and provided several danger balls in the first half that team mates wasted. Far more dangerous then Valencia who essentially can be run to the touchline or forced to pass back. 5 is fair for Nani due to some errant passes and lost balls yesterday but most other ratings are far too generous.

Valencia see above, off target defected goal does not make up for a wasted night out right-4.

Owen scored but wasted few other golden opportunities, would give him no better than 5.

Evans and Brown got sliced open on both opening goals. Anything better than a 4 is laughable.

Fabio did not impress, passed directly out of bounds on few occasions and was not solid on defense 4.

Macheda likely at fault for 3 goal with poor marking (Fabio was a drift as well) but was an offensive threat. Bright future. 6.

Neville--best crosses of the game including picture perfect delivery for Scholes' header but would rather see Brown wide right. 6.

Scholes/Fletcher--outside of our central defense getting embarrassed twice, our biggest deficiency last night was our lack of command in the midfield. Very little threat through the middle of the pitch. Neither stamped their influence on the game. In contrast to general performance, Fletcher was robbed on penalty call and Scholes header saves the day. 5 for both.

VDS --could have done better on opening goal but faultless otherwise-6.

Rooney--provided immediate spark as expected but was not his best form. Mind likely elsewhere-6.

Evra--Always dangerous and remains top class, no significant game changing contribution however--6.

Obertan--got a lot of Nani in him for all I can tell, fancy flicks and tricks and has pace but until I see a final ball consistently delivered I am unconvinced. 5.

VDS – Not one of his better days and can’t really fault him for the goals – 5

The Nevster – Did a good job on his flank – 7

Wes & JE – Both pulled all over the place and very static at times. Really worrying with Chelsea coming up. Back to their Barnsley form I’m afraid – 4

Fabio – A bit of a mare – 4

Valencia – solid performance but he’s looking very one dimensional – 6

Ginge – Perhaps his pass completion was down a shade but a wonderful range of passing all the same. Several blockbusters and a fine header. His most attacking display for yonks. Easily MOM for us. – 8

Macheda – Very impressive for one so young. Carried the line like a veteran. Some lovely bits of skill and very unlucky not to score. A performance he can be proud

Owen – Just how many chances does he need? Without exaggeration he could have 10 goals for us already this season. Not deadly but dreadful in front of goal. Living on his reputation big style. - 6

People believing some of the hacks blaming Kiko for the 3rd goal should smell the coffee. Blaming our centre forward for his defending?? Barmy, I suppose Berba would have done better, hah ha.

fabio, Wes, Evans:- poor. VDS, Nani, DF, Scholes:- average. Gary, Valencia, Owen, Kiko:- Good. Subs all good.
