SIR Alex Ferguson has ordered United to finish off the job in Group B tonight.

Fergie will be happy to avoid the rollercoaster ride that his side so often put him through - and has told his players he wants no repeat of 2006.

United can book their passport to the knockout stage of the Champions League with victory against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford and rubber-stamp the coveted first place spot in the group.

The United boss is set to let Wayne Rooney decide whether he wants to play after his wife Colleen gave birth to their son Kai on Monday or opt for a brief paternity leave.

Three years ago United's group form went from nailed on to nail-biting. Having beaten Celtic, Benfica and Copenhagen to storm ahead, the Reds then lost successive matches to the Danes and Scots and needed a fraught final victory against the Portuguese to send them through.

This season the Reds again have a 100 per cent record after three games following victories against Besiktas, Wolfsburg and CSKA Moscow ahead of tonight.

"You have to be aware that football can throw clangers into the mix and we don't want that," insists Fergie. "We are in a position where we want to consolidate being top of the group.

"Winning tonight will put us through as winners of the group. That to me is the right kind of incentive for this game.

"We can put it all to rest. We are at home where our form has been very good and hopefully we can continue that way."

United professionally saw off CSKA in Moscow but since then the Russians have sacked ex-Tottenham manager Juande Ramos after only 46 days in charge.

They have appointed Leonid Slutski as the Spaniard's successor as the Russian league season draws to its conclusion.

Ferguson is aware the changeover could spell problems for United and is fully expecting a backlash from the visitors.

"Given it is a new coach, you know they will want to win at Old Trafford," added Fergie.
