Dimitar Berbatov celebrates his goal

GOALSCORER Dimitar Berbatov claimed that winning was all that mattered as Manchester United beat Blackburn to stay within two points of Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea.

The Reds spurned several chances to make the result more comprehensive at Old Trafford, but the Bulgarian scored a fine opener before Wayne Rooney struck to make it 2-0.

Berbatov was not concerned by the scoreline, and told ESPN: "One-nil is good as well as long as you get the three points. Two-nil, four-nil, it doesn't matter - as long as we keep on winning I think everyone will be happy.

"In the first half, I had a couple of chances to score - you need to be patient and when another chance comes, you need to score it.

"I was glad that I scored my chance, and Wayne Rooney scored another one and it was finished for Blackburn.

"It is always difficult to play against Blackburn, but always when you score a goal you are relieved because you feel that you have done something special, and that was the case."

Ledge. This blokes ability is phenominal. He was the one man who looked like he could break a very physical Blackburn side down. You can have all the work ethic, tough tackling and effort in the world but a player with Berbatovs touch and vision will kill you with one piece of delicious skill. He's worth the entrance fee on his own. If I paid it.

we were good value for the win.anderson and carrick got in some good tackles high up the pitch which enabled us to keep the pressure on.thats the problem with scholes now, he only patrols a patch either side of the halfway line and teams just bypass him leaving us a little stretched.valencia is improving and obertan is talented and will be a great asset though probably next season.get hargreaves firing and diouf in in january and we wont be far off.

Those who have slagged off Berbatov must feel pretty silly today.It was one of his best games and a fantastic goal,It is was also a very rare clean sheet at home.
A lot of positives I thought OBERTAN is going to be brilliant yes he missed agoal he won,t miss many Owen missed a sitter as well.Obertan is class,I think we should have started with one of the twins or DELAET at right back and we would have won by a mile.
Rio is out for the count and will just become a regular sick note from now on.
Nani will be gone now we have Obetan and Tosic he is surplass to requirements also Foster will be sold in the summer ad Kussak will stay as number two the GERMAN keeper is a priority to Fergie however he will only sign to be number 1.
Afet scoring 17 goals in 4 games Chelsea will hit hard on Sunday provided Fergie does not do his usual audition for all our yesterdays.

10 men behing the ball all afternoon plus a goal;keeper who took 2 minutes to take a goal kick no wonder the away fans section was only half full. Once we raised the tempo in the 2nd half it was just a matter of when the goal would come, had Obby 1canobe scored and Owen got the one at the end it would have been justice for UTDs dominance.
The 2 boys in the centre of defence should get a special mention,

Not the beautifull game of old, But I would settle for that & 3points, Im sure our wealthy neighbours wish they had the one thing money cant buy.....spirit & determination,Not to mention a CL game in the week

I’ve never slagged off Berbatov.

I watched a string of listless, round-shouldered performances where the man spends 60 of the 90 lying on the floor. (Falling over seems to be his hobby.) I’ve noticed him hover around his marker without regard to the demands of the red shirt in possession, set off on runs when it’s too late, then sulk and glower at the unappreciative idiots he has to contend with. I saw him contribute little to a Carling Cup final against Everton when kids were burning their lungs for the team, then so absolutely dither, splutter and fluff a penalty that Tim Howard has had harder back passes - the worst betrayal of junior team mates I have ever witnessed. Then, for a couple of games he looked quite good, until against Liverpool, when the old Bulgarian ME struck him again. Against Blackburn, he looked decent. A fierce header he hit too well, so no complaints there, and a wonderful swivel that reversed the ball into the unexpected corner of the goal.

It doesn’t add up to enough, let alone very much. I think he is fundamentally flawed. A Prima Donna that sparkles fitfully. A number 9 that trades one good game for three or four wasted afternoons. A drain on the team spirit and makeweight for want of something better.

I cannot stand Berbatov. But I’ve never slagged him off. I think that above assessment is generous.

You can start crowing about Berbatov when he finally manages to put a run of decent performances together Danny, he is so inconsistent still and hasn't even got close to replicating his Spurs form for us IMO.

He IS a class player though, no doubt about it, I really hope he can live up to expectations this season.

Palomablanca, you've hit the nail on the head, most definitely not the beautiful game of old. A distinct lack of flair running through the side makes it tedious at best on several occasions.

A mixture of fletch coming back to sure up the midfield, allowing a scholes or carrick to get their passing game back should help. As will Obertan, who seems lively, and might just get nani shifted to the right to add a bit of competition for valencia.

Winning is great and i daren't say otherwise, but winning with class and entertainment is so much better and something that we've been treated to for years.

Mark Hughes is moulding City as he moulded Blackburn. Workman like, not very pretty and certainly never in the hunt for any trophies (apart ftrom the Micky Mouse Cup). How they are 4th in the table, I'll never know!
