Rio Ferdinand

TOTTENHAM have been linked with an audacious swoop for Manchester United centre back Rio Ferdinand.

The Reds defender has suffered a poor start to the season with injuries and a loss of form putting him in the spotlight.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp may be ready to try and tempt Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson into selling the 30-year-old next summer, with Jonny Evans pushing closer to the first team.

Ferguson also has his eye on 18-year-old Everton starlet Jack Rodwell, reports the Daily Mail.

In his current form £15 mill would be a good deal.......

and I really rate Jack Rodwell but I don't think Everton would ever let him come to us after the rooney fisaco..

I really hope this is more than just Gossip selling Rio will be the sale of the century great news.

However Strachan is after Kiko on loan and that should be a no no.

i cant see rio leaving any time soon to be honest. he has had a bad start to the season, but in my eyes is still the best defender in europe when on form. rodwell is definately a player i would like to see at utd, but id expect everton to only sell for a ridiculous price!

Rio is having a poor run at the moment, but i think he is earning way to much money for Tottenham to afford .........

Rio will come through this spate of injuries and bad form, he's always been grest for us and deserves our support. As for Danny's yet again off topic utterings i'd say Kiko going on loan would be good, as he's get to play in a tough league which would help him get games and us see what he's made of.

Rodwell would be a good signing, young and english, and fits SAF'S buying youth policy. The Toffee's really wouldn't be able to block the sale as he'd want to come and they'd not be able to resist cashing in as they are as we know a selling club.

Rio should be allowed to move on. Simple. If he plays decently up to the end of the season he may go to the likes of Real. At least there we can recoup some of that 30 million. I think we have enough talent in that department: Vidic, Brown, Evans, De Laet, and possible Dodo joining in the next window. There's no question Rio has done an excellent service for us. But he's no longer value for our money; imagine the 130k he picks up every week!

Would be rather hasty to me. With both Rio and Vida wobbling and Wes being a bit injury prone, and Jonny boy to an extent, it seems we need to keep as much experience as possible.

A decent run free from injury would, in my opinion, help Rio and Vida enormously.

danny, WILMSLOW, You're right - Kiko is a no go, NOT even on loan. But like many here I welcome the news about our interest in Jack Rodwell. I do not mind us paying ridiculous money for worthy players. We did that for Rooney/Ferdinand, and i imagine we reaped full rewards. Boy, that lad Rodwell will be better than Steven Gerrard. We also have to remember that what goes around comes around. Remember the 80m we received just a few months ago, Yeh? If Everton asked for 20m or more then we should throw in Carrick as bait.

I would'nt be surprised if both Vidic & Rio were sold in the summer. Also, Everton owe us a favour after they got Saha for virtually nothing.

you really are a dipstick danny if you cannot recognise that rio has performed very well for the majority of his time at united then there is no hope for you. give the lad abreak and a chance to get fit again.

Absolute Nonsense.....& thats just Dunnee from Wimpslow !!

Johnny Evans at the mo' is to our centre-halves what Jos is to the squad, good to have, but when they play you realise just how good the first choice is!

rio may not be on best form & MAY be struggling with an injury, but he's still better than anyone else we've got. Vid has been all at sea.....well since his wife wanted to set sail & young Johnny is still learning & can't bring the ball out of defence yet!!

Rodwell, in the future could be an option but at the moment, Everton haven't had him anywhere near centre-back since he was in the youth team....so how could he be expected to fill Rio's boots straight away ???!!!

So until, we find a true replacement for Rio, to let him leave now would be the biggest mistake since Olaf the Hairy, High Chief of all the Vikings, accidentally ordered 80,000 battle helmets with the horns on the inside !!!

Rio is a player I have never liked the softest centre half I ever remember playing at United.
I will be glad to see the back of him Vidic has to spend to much energy covering for him he would be hard pushe to get a regiular place in womens football.

Absolutley rediculous story, we and the press spend the last couple of seasons lauding Ferdinand as the best Central Defender in the World and the heir to Maldini's crown (and to all the City and Chelski fans who are about to jump in state otherwise, ask any nuetral or international pundit and they will tell you the same) and then we jump on the guys back and start claiming he's 'shot' and past it just because he's made a few telling mistakes after spending the last couple of months out injured with only a handful of games to regain form -shock horror!! Any true red posting on here supporting these comments just be bloody ashamed. Guarantee he will regain form and fitness and will be back to his best in a couple of weeks, so for all the times he's saved our blushes in key games over the last couple of years, shouldn't we repay him now with a bit of genuine support, rather than sounding like some spoilt Chelsea, City or Liverpool fan!!??

This is the time for you to take note Rio. Fair enough he's had injuries and needs time to get properly fit but his display against Torres was woeful to say the least. Either he gets his form back or Harry will be getting a new player next summer. Rio showed his commitment to Utd a couple of years back over his lengthy contract negotiations. Don't expect Fergie to show any loyalty to him. I was really surprised to see him wear the captain's arm band so often. Michael Carrick is in the same position. Nani on the other hand has had long enough to show that he's not going to make it. Rodwell and Shawcross to come in.

I'll be glad to see the back of Rio. We need someone stronger, faster and fitter at the back if we want to fend of the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal whose strikers only need a sniff at goal.

Danny for once I agree with you. I would go further and say it is impossible. Don't you have to be a woman?

Silly talk - we would be daft to sell Rio. He is still only 30 and most defenders are ok up to 33-34. Rio looks after himself well and is probably one of the fittest central defenders in the premiership. There is evidence he is still getting back to full fitness but I don't see that being a lasting issue.

The best replacement for Rio would be Pique, we sold him so Rio'll have to do the biz for another 5 years. If he gets his fitness back he's still one of the best.

Not only is it amazing what rubbish gets into newspapers these days, it's amazing that people read it and suddenly believe that it's true!

So suddenly Rio has been playing badly for ages and was to blame for all the points we've dropped! That's completely ignoring the fact that Rio has been better than Vidic so far this season and that his only real mistake this season cost us a goal in a match that we won. What he does for England, who had already qualified doesn't interest me. For United he's been OK considering he missed pre-season and has niggling injuries.

Surely you lot can see through the media's agenda.
