Saha gets Euro call

Manchester United striker Louis Saha was today named in France's 23-man Euro 2004 squad.

Saha, who joined United for '12.85million from Fulham in January, saw off competition from the likes of Sidney Govou and Peguy Luyindula to win a berth in the squad selected by Jacques Santini.

The France coach also decided that Sylvain Wiltord, who will leave Arsenal on a free transfer this summer, was worth a place in his squad, despite injuries preventing him playing a full role in the Gunners' championship-winning season.

He is joined by three other Highbury players in Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira. Chelsea's Marcel Desailly was confirmed as captain, and he was joined by club-mates Claude Makelele and William Gallas.

Auxerre's Rangers-bound Jean-Alain Boumsong is also included.

Defending champions France play England in their first match of the tournament on June 13.

Squad: Barthez (Marseille), Boumsong (Auxerre), Coupet (Lyon), Dacourt (Roma), Desailly (Chelsea, capt), Gallas (Chelsea), Giuly (Monaco), Henry (Arsenal), Landreau (Nantes), Lizarazu (Bayern Munich), Makelele (Chelsea), Marlet (Marseille), Pedretti (Sochaux), Pires (Arsenal), Rothen (Monaco), Sagnol (Bayern Munich), Saha (Man Utd), Silvestre (Man Utd), Thuram (Juventus), Trezeguet (Juventus), Vieira (Arsenal), Wiltord (Arsenal), Zidane (Real Madrid).

Deserves to be in the squad and if given the chance will be amongst the goals and not a bad bet for top goal scorer overall in the tourament.

A nice benefit for him from raising his profile by transferring to United. he probably won't play much but it'll be good experience for him to mix at this level. Saha's made a proimising start for United but I hope that this activity doesn't increase his fitness problems. United need to start strongly in the next season.

Big bird you joey.
Saha won't even play. Henry, Trezeguet, Wiltord and Marlet will all get the nod b4 Saha.He is nothing more than medioca. Ok he has got 20 goals this season but 17 of them were for Fulham!!
Get back to your clotted cream on scones and tea.

Blue Moon, a little upset La Sulk didnt make it are we????? Saha will rank higher in the pecking order than Wiltord and as for Marlet (how many did he score for fulham) As for your selective research Saha has scored 7 times for us and altogether thats makes more than Anelka or Fowler or Wanchope or that other man u reject. GO AWAY BITTER BLUE FOOL

Well done Louis, have a good one. It's more than a certain Mr Smith has achieved.

don't you just wish this was the squad England had? On the whole I'd swap Campbell for Desailly and Gerrard for Dacourt and maybe lampard and scholes but that would be it. Henry & co. will destroy us if they don't have an off-day

Blue Moon, Manchester. Not Cornwall, how wrong are you? Saha will be a French regular before too long, he's been voted along side Henry as the premierships best striker according to OPTA stats so your pathetic comments just add up to 1 thing, your a bitter numpty. Declan, Dublin your spot on mate and Saha will be even better next season as we watch City getting relegated!!!

Anelka is a great striker, so is Saha, Wright-Phillips is also a great prospect. The moral of the story? You join United, you get chosen for your country, you join City, you don't. Simple.
