UNJURY SETBACK: Wayne Rooney trudges off the field on Saturday

MANCHESTER United forward Wayne Rooney has pulled out of England's World Cup qualifier with Belarus on Wednesday.

The Reds star picked up a calf strain during the 1-0 defeat away to Ukraine.

After having the injury assessed at England's training base in Hertfordshire, he has been released back to Old Trafford.

The news is a shock because if anyone was expected to pull out, it had been Rooney's close friend and Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard.

Whereas Gerrard only lasted until half-time at the Dnipro Arena on Saturday, Rooney got through the entire game, turning in a magnificent performance for an England side that was reduced to 10 men after 15 minutes following the dismissal of Robert Green.

But whereas Gerrard has been given the all-clear to remain with the England camp for the final match of a successful Group Six campaign, even allowing for Saturday's result, Rooney must now undergo treatment in the hope of being fit for United's Premier League encounter with Bolton.

What a pity Rooney was the best England player by a mile Carrick and Rio were yet again terrible and now he has called up Foster another useless player.
Its time to sell Rio and Carrick and Foster and the Donkey.

That's one of the many reason why the majority of true United fans despise 'Ingerland', and international football in general. A major concern would be that if they were (by some sheer fluke) to win the World Cup, the hype that would be heaped upon the team would be cringe worthy. Imagine, all the players would be knighted you would not be able to pick up a paper or switch on the TV without seeing the likes of Crouch or Gerrard on some cheesy talkshow, for years and years. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH. Let's just remember Bobby Moore lifting the trophy and hope that was just a 'one off'.

Rooneys injury hopefully isn't serious,rio looks in dreamland the now and the ot pitch took a battering from the rugby at the weekend,not great.

danny your such a joke if we just sell rio we have no back up he has had a few bad games and struggled with injuries but its not worth just selling him. He is world class!! Plus carrick has had a couple of bad games but weighing him up in an England is a poor show mate he still has that threat of a goalscorer that we need.

Steve you go and support Liverpool I never wanted United to spend 30 million on a dozy cockney in the first place at that time 30 million would have bought two top players. Rio has been carried by Vidic for so long.
Give me Mc Queen Holton Stam any day men against a fairy.

Gordon Mcqueen was a fine player and six foot two, eyes are blue was great. Neither was as accomplished a defender as Rio.

Stam was all of them put together and more.

Rio needs to get his act together he needs to concentrate more. It was his fault we lost the Final to Barcelona because of his back injury he couldt jump high enough to clear the ball that Messi scored.
That so called flick to O'Shea in the Derby. Then the howler with England. From May till now he is slow and lacks match fitness!

If he needs match practise send him to Hyde with the Twins and Obertan to play in the Manchester Senior Cup!!

LOL that's the first time I heard that one. Was he guilty of the credit crunch as well? The big thing is his fitness. He is clearly one member of our top central defensive pairing when fit. Last season he was often our stand-out performer. To single him out just because of a problem with his fitness and a couple of defensive errors is a little silly. Blaming him for our Barcelona defeat is simply ridiculous.

Don't like to jump on the bandwagon but Rio worries me as regular injuries are weighing him down and seem to have taken the edge off his game in the same way that John Terry has suffered. Oh for Gerard Pique? It looks like we let the lad go too early - i'm not sure £6m for Pique versus £20m for Gary Cahill really equates!?

Pique was 21 and was only playing the odd game..plus he wanted to go back to Barca and Spain so that was that.With Rio and Vidic blocking his way and Jonny Evans and Wes he was essentially 4th or 5th choice!
He is a very good player though.
Also have Cathcart and Chester coming through the ranks so the centre half spot is safe for a few years yet!
Oh and Fergie's adopted son will get a game if both legs are broke..if his shoulder is out..concussed..hamstring gone..no boots..no matter what, he'll be in!

I am sick of these England games, now Rooney has picked up an ankle injury, to be honest I could not care less about England, just looking forward to the Bolton game, let us hope we dont have a repeat of the Sunderland performance.

i don't kno but without Roo it will be very tough....is the only forward who can scores....berba too soft, owen always injured, welbek is not a good player...so i hope that he can recover and plays every match

Have you been drinking ? Rio puts in a couple of poor performances and you want to sell him? You my friend are a prize plonker. Rio is one of the best centre halfs for a generation.

Rooney injured playing in a pointless game as England had already booked their place at next years world cup,it's games like that when Capello should be looking at some other players cause if he doesn't know what Rooney is about by now he never will.
