The Longsight-born star, 18, has made two appearances this season and scored the goal that knocked Wolves out of the Carling Cup.
Now boss Sir Alex Ferguson is set to reward the youngster with a new £12,000-per-week deal, report The Sun.
Meanwhile, Belgian defender Ritchie De Laet has had his contract extended to 2012.
What do you think? Have your say.

I'd also like to see Fabio play when we are at home as he'd overlap which would help the stuttering Nani or Valencia.
Come back Ji Sung all is forgiven!

Ritchie De Laet looks good and hope to see more of him in the future.

Matthew, he's in good company and spent time developing his strength and fitness over the summer. It broke my heart to see him on the end of backlash last week, as I thought he was alright, given the circumstances. We're very fortunate to have had two freaks of nature in Rooney and Ronaldo; Many of the spoilt knee jerkers now measure every prospect against those two, and that isn't right. The reality is that he needs plenty of time and also to be allowed to make his mistakes and learn from them. There's no doubt in my mind that he'll be a top class player.
(P.S., I think you meant the goal against Wolves ;)).

Evra as Left Back and Fabio at left wing its simple as Nani and Park are not up to the grade. Welbeck is better on the right and even better up front!

He is not good enough and his attitude is clearly very poor indeed. Unfortunatley he seems to think he's already "made it" and struts around the pitch like he's bigtime. Well he isn't and he needs to pull his finger out. I've seen him score one or two good goals after having done absolutely nothing for the entire remainder of the match, and then, as a 19 yr old kid having just scored a great goal for Manchester United, he stands there and puffs his chest out like he's Eric Cantona or something. Against Sunderland (when admittedly everyone was poor except Berbatov) he did nothing to get into the game, he did not run his legs off to find space, look for the ball or indeed, do anything with it when it was given to him.
Now, I can let it go when young players DON'T play a blinder everytime they get a chance - I'm not unrealistic, but it's Wellbeck's apparent attitude while he's contributing absolutely nothing that grates with me.
I've noticed some people posting that he should be played up front and not "wasted" on the wing. Well that's nonsense. He currently IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH to play up front for Manchester United.

He played on the right for the second half, which afforded me an excellent view of what he wasn't doing from my seat in the West Lower.

I have time for your opinions and therefore I'll give the lad a break and see what he does. My least favourite thing in the world is slagging our players off - it really doesn't sit well with me at all. However, to date, I haven't seen anything to be impressed with, he looks like a drunken Andy Cole on the ball and I really can see worrying signs of a big time charlie approach.
I would love it if we had a local lad make it as a world class centre forward - LOVE IT

As T&C has noted, Welbeck's physique maybe doesn't help him as he looks a bit uncordinated and gangly at times. He might not make it in the end - but he's a Manchester born lad who has come through the youth team so let's give him our support rather than concentrating on what he can't do. I personally feel he is inconsistent at the moment (which is to be expected) but he is shown in flashes with some great finishes that he could be a good 3rd choice striker in a couple of years if he develops certain aspects of his game.

He has such natural ability, great touch, composure and is a red at heart, for crying out loud stop picking faults in a young 18 year old kids game and let him learn his trade, settle in and continue to grow, mature and become the fantastic talent we all/some of us believe he is going to be
The problem is you all seem to expect a finished article like we had in Dwight Yorke/RVN et al...how old were they when they came to us?
Sir Matt built this club around youth, SAF is comitted to continuing that and I will always support a new kid, be it from a Russell Beardsmore/Tony Gill/Deniol Graham, the origional Fergie Fledglins to the modern day Welbeck/De Laet et al

Welbeck is good when played in his position-he will prove it-given time!
DeLaet should be in the team now so why is'nt he? Well with Fergie's adopted son at right back his opportunity might never arrive.
Other youngsters should be given time on the bench to prepare them for the 1st team like the class of '92 were-because we and they will benefit in the long run.
