Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping bargain acquisition Michael Owen can supply some of the goals scored by the departing duo.
But ex-Reds Dutch midfielder Arnold Muhren believes his fellow countryman and former Ajax club colleague Huntelaar could provide Fergie with the answer to his attacking conundrum.
Huntelaar has only been at Real Madrid since January when he signed for an initial £17m fee from Ajax but the Bernabeu president Florentino Perez's awesome import of new expensive Galacticos has seen the 25-year-old surplus to requirements.
The Spaniards are said to be ready to sell if a club will offer above the cash they spent in the winter window.
United's 80s stylish midfielder Muhren says Huntelaar would be a snip.
"The way the market has gone this summer then Klaas-Jan would be an absolute bargain at that kind of price," Arnold told M.E.N. Sport. "If United are looking to replace the goals lost through Ronaldo's sale then Huntelaar comes as near as you can get with a guarantee to score them.
"He's a goalscorer. Very, very dangerous in the box. He scored 76 league goals in 92 appearances for Ajax and despite what some people might tell you, that is not easy.
"I believe he can score goals at any level. He has proved he can do it on the international stage with 13 goals in 23 matches for Holland. He has proved he knows where the back of the net is throughout his career. He might need a little time to settle into the Premier League but he would score goals in England."
Smashed
For United it would revive the 'goalden' era between 2001 and 2006 of Ruud van Nistelrooy when he smashed club scoring records.
"Huntelaar is not as fast as van Nistelrooy but he's not slow," said Muhren who coaches in Ajax's youth academy. "You need to play it to Klaas-Jan's feet. He's a target man who will hold the ball up for you and bring the midfielders into play. That's his style. He's also very good in the air.
"He needs wingers feeding him the ball and midfielders playing into him. Like Ruud, if you give him the right service in the box then nine times out of ten he will score. Play to his strengths and create opportunities and Huntelaar will pay you back in goals.
"He would be another good option for United with Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.
"Owen is fast over the first two or three yards and can win the balls put over the top. Rooney is a great talent and works hard and scores goals. He also has that ability to play wide and come in from that position. I love Berbatov's kind of arrogant style. With Huntelaar added to that department it would be a great mix."
While Huntelaar could virtually be counted on to soften the blow of losing Ronaldo's goal contribution he would also win the hearts of the United fans like Tevez.
"He is a hard worker and a down to earth guy. I know the United support would love him," says Arnold. "He is like Dirk Kuyt at Liverpool. The Anfield fans love him because of his work rate. He never gives up and neither does Huntelaar.
"I really do think it would work for United. I still love the club and want them to be successful and I think with Huntelaar at Old Trafford he'd get the goals to keep United in front."
Should United go for Huntelaar? Have your say.

If you United buy Huntelaar at this price Madrid and the rest of football will be laughing at United's expense. This is like United selling Berbatov for £40mill.

however saying this, if we got the cash to splash then why not go for ibrahimovich if the reports are true, even though i think he's very over hyped

I don't think there's any chance we'd buy him anyway. Huntelaar knows if he doesn't leave he'll fail to make Real's Champions League squad, stories like this are just a desperate attempt to drum up interest.

1) Huntelaar is not as fast as van Nistelrooy...
2) He is like Dirk Kuyt...

Afonso Alves and Mateja Kezman both had similar goalscoring ratios in Holland, but flopped in the Premier League.
Huntelaar would be a good signing at the right price, but not £20 million.
I keep stressing that it is the left wing primarily we need to strengthen, because as it stands we lack real proven quality there and we don't want to see Wayne Rooney taking up the role again next season.

huntelaar actually has quite a good scoring record at madrid (much like owen did) but simply is not fashionable enough for that sorry excuse for a football club, and has now been branded a flop! robben, sneijder and van der vaart are all excellent players but it looks like they will also be branded flops.
at the end of the day, if the gaffer deems this guy good enough to play for us and we sign him, il back his decision and judge when he actually plays!

Then i MAY consider taking Huntelaar, but i may also demand a packet of rolling tobaco and some skins to finalise the deal

There are few options, but there can be no doubt that Fergie won't panic.
Red Dawn - I thought you said Tosic was quality? If so, buying another left winger (with Llajic coming too, although he may be more use in the centre) seems uneccesary, unless someone leaves (Nani Davis Jr?)
Who else? I agree centre mid is still weak (sorry T+c)
De Rossi? Roma are a mess, no doubt in debt. 15mil might do it.
I still think we should look at Van de Vaart or Sneijder, or both. No more than 8 each, or both for 15. That would be very shrewd business. I hear the comments of raiding the bernabeu bins, but how satisfying would it be to see a player they let go on the cheap, after being treated shabbily become great players, and maybe shove it up them once or twice. They would also be very motivated to prove themselves. The two dutchmen have real ability, and the will show it over the next few years.
Valencia seem to have been given a nice bailout from the local government (come on Platini - sort it out!!) , so they may be able to refuse good offers.
Moutinho or Veloso? Have been highly rated by good judges, and Sporting will no doubt do business.
Sorry to throw another spanner in the works, but I think this season will prove we really do need a new top keeper. If we are smart we'll save 20-30mil for that tricky job next summer, and keep Foster as great backup.

In principle I don't want madrid "cast-offs" but i also know that Perez does not want the players for the wrong reason. he does not want them simply because HE did not buy them so that does not achieve his only goal - feeding is already bloated ego. I have always admired Sneijder who has a vicious shot as well as being creative and van der vaart has some Scholesy qualities even if he went off the boil. He found it again at Hamburg and got his move to spain (spanish mother). But that dream turned into a nightmare and he must be looking for the exit. As for Huntelaar (who wanted to go to United in the first place) must be thinking - as Owen in the past - "Why did you even bother signing me?". He would adjust to life in the North as the Dutch easily do and might be less risky than Fabiano as long as the price is right.
Given we only sanctioned the ronaldo deal with all the cash up front, even the king's cheque book is struggling to meet the 40m quid that the Dippers want for Alonso. If they want him (and Perez does for that ego of his) they need to trim the squad, get wages off the book and a few quid in transfers. I am sure Fergie has considered these players but is playing a waiting game. If we could get all three for 25-30m I would swallow my hatred as it would be a great deal. We could complete our squad and repair the damage of missing ronaldo for a total cash outlay of +/- 45m for 5 proven internationals and one unknown French talent and still have saved 25m on Tevez and have 40m left in the bank. By any standards that would be a Wenger-like bit of transfer business there.
Of course likely means nothing but I can definitely see the sense in it, pride or no pride. I guess Robben has no chance given the snub in the past when it seems he had signed but as talented as he is he goes off crying every time he gets kicked.
