The Rossoneri revealed earlier this week that offers had been made for both Huntelaar and Sevilla forward Luis Fabiano, both of whom have also been linked with the Reds.
However, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has now confirmed the club have ducked out of the race to sign Dutchman Huntelaar, who is deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu following the arrivals of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
"At this point there is only one negotiation standing, and that is Luis Fabiano," Galliani told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Our coach (Leonardo) prefers Luis Fabiano to Huntelaar."
Would you like to see United go for Huntelaar? Have your say.

He is nothing special. That would be a waste of money. Welbeck and Macheda are both better than this guy. Plus he is reknowned for trouble making. We do not need another troubled and split dressing room. Can you believe he was in trouble at Real Madrid within his first few months. Apparently he wouldn't talk to some of the RM players including his own countryman Robben. Please Fergie leave this one alone. I am not even an Owen fan but I would much rather he is at OT than Hunterlaar.

I like Huntelaar, he's a good player, but we have to look at the bigger picture here.
£20 million is a little on the steep side aswell. I value him more in the £15 - £18 million bracket.
I'd much prefer we concentrate on signing a quality left sided winger, so as to compliment Valencia on the right in getting good service into the strikers that we have.
I do think Tosic will prove to be a great signing, but the likelyhood is he is going to be eased into the Premiership this season.
Relying on Nani is just too much of a gamble.

Out of 20-30 players United track, they must sign one of them. Real madrid have said nothing either and they usually do all their work in public.

Same applies to all of Madrid's Dutch players.

As I've said a number of times, you can't have more than one Dutch player at a club. Any more than one and they form into cliques and fall out with each other, disrupting the whole club.
On players that United track, it's hundreds. Most of those are youth players though. There's no NEED to buy any more players. We have the right number in the squad, all positions have some competition if everyone is fit, there's a good blend of youth and experience. There's no gaps that NEED to be filled. So it's down to whether SAF feels he can improve the team with players who are available. I don't see any available players who would improve the team.

I do rate Huntelaar but I feel the Sevilla player is a better, more well rounded, striker; and would certainly not break the bank if we moved for him.
Mind you, a plus for the Dutch forward would be his ability to acclimatise ( both on and off the pitch ) to life in the PL. Dutch players usually do perform well in England, and do so relatively quickly.

Who had heard of Obertan before two weeks ago?
Infuse some youth, get a good defensive midfielder and they will probably be far more entertaining than in a lot of the games last year. Some of it was painful to watch.

Give Welbeck or Kiko the chance to be the 4th striker - or better yet, rotate them at that spot to keep them hungry and engender some friendly competition.
I've got my doubts about OH - even if he has recovered, I don't think he can do Sunday-Tuesday-Sunday for the entire season. I would love to see De Rossi at OT, though that is unlikely as he is a Roma guy to the core.
Red Dawn (08/07/2009 at 15:43)
That guy has a real attitude problem that Ferguson would find hard to control, and he wouldn't be playing week in week out here either with strikers we have.
I never rated him as a player anwyay.
We were interested in signing him actually many years ago when he was playing for Sao Paulo, but nothing came of it.

Fabiano is a great goalscorer but had attitude problems, which makes you wonder if he's gonna be worth the hassle? he could end up spitting out his dummy like Tevez!
Huntelaar is in my opinion the better option, young and still learning but he will score goals in this great side we have... would also learn a hell of alot in two years playing with Owen! My money is on Fergie bringing in somebody unless he has extreme faith in Macheda and Wellbeck, which could very well be his choice... bearing in mind what he said about Wellbeck, predicting he would be in Englands world cup squad next year... suggests the boy is ready... but every United fan knows that Sir Alex LOVES to buy strikers!
The worrying thought is still with me that we won't add to the middle of midfield... Barca ripped us to shreds, as too did the scousers and those two results just made it clear that we miss the holding midfielder... Will Owen Hargreaves be fit for playing 30+ games?? nobody knows and if he does then we have a fantastic player back in the squad... if not, if he'll only manage 15-20 then we should add another similar player... Senna would be a reliable and cheap option, as too would Gatusso... both fantastic players who'll protect the defence and break up play... the other option more long term... Danille De Rossi from Roma who is on the bring of greatness and wouldn't be that costly!!!
The next 2 weeks are set to be very very interesting

i spend 50% of my time in holland, have done since 99 im a dutch speaker, but i never heard anything negative about huntelaar as regards attitude, national team is a different matter generally speaking, but even there his name never crops up.other nl players you hear a lot of stories about no matter where they play in the world, but not huntelaar.
i agree with you pretty much on squad size, id love to see macheda and wellbeck get a chance, so no additional striker to come in, but the crux of it all is that ferguson and backroom staff need to sit down and decide firstly the formations for home -away -europe and who best to play where ...more imprtantly pay the players in their best positions..elementary stuff but really importan t.this big squad idea is fine but there is a lot of continuity lost which was evident last year......
one other point id only like to see now a good strong midfielder come in and im impressed by both velosso and mountihno and id even consider a swap with nani for the pair of them with cash adjustment...and to make room id also let park go...possebon went on loan which i was advocating weeks ago as he could develop if hes playing regularly..gibson im not so sure but id give him 12 months carling cup etc etc and judge then.
