The comments in the Spanish press are bound to irritate United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who is sure to have a busy summer plotting his own transfer moves and assessing the futures of a significant number of his stars following the Champions League defeat to Barcelona.
High on his list of priorities will be what happens next with Carlos Tevez, Paul Scholes and Nani - so the re-emergence of Real in their long-running flirtation with Ronaldo will get right under the United chief's skin.
Perez is the overwhelming favourite to return to the post he held from 2000-06 and could be installed as president as early as Monday.
He is anxious for Madrid to regain the high ground from Barcelona and questioned about Ronaldo, he told Marca: "He's a player that would be very good if he came to Real Madrid.
"What I know is what I've read, that there is an agreement by means of which he would come for £80m . . .
"Next week we will look at the numbers and nobody should doubt that we are going to design with our sporting advisors a spectacular project."
The commments are a distraction from what could be a busy period for Ferguson.
Long-term targets Karim Benzema and Antonio Valencia will also occupy his thoughts - as well as a midfield enforcer - as he plots a way to take United back to the summit of European football.
Tevez did not return to Manchester with his United team-mates after defeat in Rome, instead heading off for international duty with Argentina with his future still shrouded in doubt as the impasse over his transfer fee continues.
Prepared
Chief executive David Gill has intimated he is prepared to pay the £25.5m necessary to make the striker's move a permanent one, but it remains to be seen if Ferguson will want such a large chunk of his transfer budget taken up on a player he has used sparingly this season.
Scholes is the subject of interest from Stoke, who want to make him a player/coach.
The former England international has only one year left on his United contract and revealed this week that he was unhappy with Ferguson's squad rotation system.
He also added that he hoped to move into management, though it remains to be seen if he would be willing to swap Old Trafford for the Britannia Stadium.
Nani heads the list of a group of fringe players who could be shown the door to raise funds for new recruits.
Also on that list will be Tomasz Kuszczak and Fraizer Campbell, with both likely to be given only limited opportunities next season.
Nani has already seen Ji-Sung Park overtake him as first choice on the left of midfield, while Zoran Tosic is seen as the long-term answer to that position.
Nani , who is predominantly right-footed, would be better suited on the right, but if Ferguson firms up his interest in Wigan's Valencia then it is difficult to see what future the Portuguese star has at United.
Meanwhile, Michael Carrick says there will be no self-pity in the wake of the defeat by Barcelona in Rome.
"I think we can be proud of what we've achieved in the last couple of years, but it's hard to take," said Carrick. "However, the club moves on, we have to move on and come back stronger next season.
"We've got to defend the Premier League title and go again in this competition."
What do you think? Have your say.

For £80 million I'd definitely sell Ronaldo. The cash could be reinvested in 2 top quality wingers, a creative midfielder and a striker.
With Ronaldo gone, I think we'd become a 'Team' again and Rooney would come to the fore.
Paying £25.5 million for Tevez on top of the £10 million already paid is madness by the way. There is no way he is worth that and I hope we don't pay it.
I'd be surprised if Liverpool would pay that either, but tactically they may put their name in the hat, so as to maybe force us into signing him and not let him go to our nearest rivals, hence exhausting the majority of our transfer budget for this summer and not being able to strengthen elsewhere.
It would give them an opportunity to close the gap so to speak, but that said, the money Benitez has spent is ridiculous and has signed a plethora of clangers, so who's to say he won't do that again this season.
No wonder Rick Parry is standing down. He can see what Benitez has spent with nothing to show for it, so it his mind, it had to end.
If it wasn't for the European Cup win, the fans wouldn't be chanting his name now.
Same old, same old, there's no agreement. The only way Ronaldo is going is putting in a transfer request, and to my knowledge, he hasn't. Part 240, to be continued...
As per usual the gossip mongers will have their say about various clubs off season activities there are undoubtedly players who will move on and some who won't. Off course there are new players to arrive.Uniteds pre-eminence in the english game inevitably means that they will get more than their fair share of these supposed "Head lines" and to a degree for obviuos reasons so will City.At the end of the day ..What will be will be..personally I would hate to see Ronaldo go..not to bothrered about Tevez one way or the other..and what team would not love to have Ribery in their squad.Come August its business as usual no matter what.
Carrick should go as well Fletcher and Anderson will get better Carrick will never generate enough energy that is needed for Uniteds mid field.
We need to cut the chaff and bring in to build up for next season.I think Berba,Nani,Park need to be sold on to Bring in Benzema and Ribery!I think we've already gopt a midfield battler in Hargreaves, but we need to assess his fitness sooner rather than later,we can't hold onto him if he's going to be crocked early into the season! We need a 100% Hargreaves for next year.
ronaldo's comments makes majority fans want to sell him, but the truth is this united team is so ordinary in midfield and attack we would struggle big time without him. even if we get 80m for him who can we buy to replace him? ribery 6om? kaka 70m? so it makes more sense to keep him at this moment in time.
what really makes me laugh is how wigan & bruce are trying to sell us a average player in valencia at 20m! by saying the WHOLE WORLD IS AFTER HIM! i really hope old fergie does'nt fall for that.
what we need is a creative midfielder and top class attacker and also a lasana diara type if hargo does'nt comeback next season. save the money from buying tevez and use it to buy BENZEMA. sell nani berbatov, kit kat, may be park, buy youhan gourcuff. i know he just signed for bordeaux for 14m but a bid of 25m will see them release him.
a keeper should also be bought in to replace vds. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?
On the saying so of the Spanish Press. That says it all.
I see Carrick has been talking. The guy has no shame.
Another Summer - another 3 months of speculation. If Ronny does go - I really hope its to someone else.
Nani will go as will Ronaldo and probably Tevez. I think Fergie will then be making a concerted attempt to buy Gattuso, Benzema,Valencia and perhaps firming up some deals with younger potential like Dodo. But then again what the hell do I know !
So boring talkin bout the same thing over and over again. Real Madrid should show us the money instead of just talking. And make sure its 75 million!
What do I think?
What I have always thought. The only reason he is still here is because the glazers could not close the transfer deal they wanted last summer. Lets see him sign and prove me wrong!
MEN you should stop printing this drivel. 99% of what comes out the Bernabeu is garbage. The Guardian writes today that Perez is in for Kaka, Ribery AND Ronaldo. Even the most gullable of readers wouldnt swallow that. Its been going on for over 2 years and bores us all to tears. Ronaldo pledged himself to Utd last week, and seemed genuine and sincere. If you dont have anything newsworthy to print dont print owt at all.
A bit off the topic but still worth a giggle. An article i stumbled across on hotmail. How true?!
Calls To Make Bitterness A Recognised Mental Illness
Bitterly sweet...or sickly?
You know them. I know them. And, increasingly, psychiatrists know them. People who feel they have been wronged by someone and are so bitter they can barely function other than to ruminate about their circumstances.
This behavior is so common and so deeply destructive that some psychiatrists are urging it be identified as a mental illness under the name post-traumatic embitterment disorder The disorder is modelled after post-traumatic stress disorder because it too is a response to a trauma that endures. People with PTSD are left fearful and anxious. Embittered people are left seething for revenge.
"They feel the world has treated them unfairly. It's one step more complex than anger. They're angry plus helpless," says Dr. Michael Linden, a German psychiatrist who named the behavior."Embitterment is a violation of basic beliefs," Linden says. "It causes a very severe emotional reaction. . . . We are always coping with negative life events. It's the reaction that varies."
"These people usually don't come to treatment because 'the world has to change, not me,' " Linden says. "They are almost treatment resistant. . . . Revenge is not a treatment."
Think you may be turning bitter?…try and make a positive step to change before you become bitterly ill. Be happy and positive and if all else fails treat yourself to a cupcake for an instant boost! We always love to hear from our Cosmo girls! So let us know what you think about bitterness.
Yawn! How boring this story is now.
Some interesting thoughts in this article but I'm more than a little jaded by the continuing chocie of MEN to use boring quotes from the Spanish press.
It's time they tried getting off their butts and getting some worthwhile stories other than Real Madrid's desire to get Ronaldo. It can be solved in 5 minutes if they simply showed us the 'signed agreement'.
The biggest kept secrete in football....i think that has being the case all season long...i honestly believe there had being an agreement all along and we've being lead on the entire season...but hey fair play to ronaldo...now all he needs to do just keep his gob shut and just go in peace no need for a repeat of last year, im not even going to be upset to see him go to be honest and the 80m mentioned will sit well enough to get a replacement hopefully RIBERY BUT NOT MORE THAN 30M and i honestly think we could create a star out of valencia(wigan) and if we should get him now that we can, and maybe david silva from valencia, we did try to get him last season if my memory serve me right and if it could go through would be brilliant.
so all in all.....farewell Ronaldo, and good luck, oh and messi is a better player anyway.
Well its back on the big chase for ronnie and i for one would wish him well hes done well for utd but obviously wants other things now,let him go and after watching us get beaten by barca its fianlly made up his mind.
yawn! the merry-go-round of speculation and rehashing stories begins..will take time out and read again when something concrete comes about.sell,buy..whatever.i believe it when i the the players at an unveiling press conference
Maybe is time to let Ronaldo go, he will not do a Giggs and United has now the chance to get an economic return for their part of creating one of world's best. 80 million is lot of money!! United bought him from sporting for 15 and the guy has given a lot for your club. Won evertyhing a player can wish as indidual and club awards. Time to let him go for his dream!! United always will be United, with or without CR!!
Valencia for Nani is a joke. Nani just needs matches, to play in his right position and his decision making will become better.
United needs a much stronger midfield: When people start crying about Fletcher not being in the final shows how much quality United has!
Scholes and Giggs should finish their career now. Carrick should just be a back up. Anderson still with a lot to prov. OH: I'm not sure that he is better than the ones mentioned before. United lost the final in the middfield and the lack of talent is there!! Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov are good enough in the front, with a couple of youngster comming up. On the wings you'll need a replacemnet for CR and the only one is Ribery but 100 million!!! If CR goes for Real for 80 million, united shouldn't pay more than 30 for Ribery but Bayern will not sell. Ronaldo is like O'shea with his flexibility but in the front, the only reason is that O'shea covers spaces at an ordinary level, ronaldo does it at top three in the world as a Winger(right and left), forward and CF....Ribery is among the top 6 wingers and thats it!!
UNITED will strengthen.
VALTINHO, LISBON,
i agree with you on valencia, i think he is average at most. all wigan are doing is trying to fool united buying into the hype. do really madrid want him!??? who are they kidding?
but i dont agree with you about nani, nani was big money mistake by quiroz, who had the final say in his signing. i keep reading fans saying how talented nani is but can they please (DEFINE) what they mean by talent? far as what i've seen so far the guy is nothing special. and if anyone thinks he can fill in for ronaldo if leaves then they don't know nothing about football.
keep ronado..sell nani and tevez..and sign valencia and benzema..plus..sign one good world class midfielder..when one sees chelsea`s midfield..their strength..essien/lampard/ballack/..shows united`s midfield weakness..anyways..should ronaldo still want out..get eighty million..and buy three or four world class players..a team l would like to start the coming season...
vandersar..brown..ferdinand..vidic..evry..hargreaves..carrick..anderson..ronaldo..benzema..rooney
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!
valenthino as usual you are just about spot on. the midfield again needs radical overhaul even though we have invested 80m in that department it is no better than mediocre.
VALTINHO, LISBON, very well said, Sir....I also think Nani given games will prove to be a top player he is. The stop-start season he has had because Fergie's love of Giggs has not helped him at all. If any of you have played football at the top level you'll understand what I mean.
