Ronaldo reaffirms Reds commitment

ALL SMILES: Cristiano Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson at Monday's press conference
CRISTIANO Ronaldo has once again reaffirmed he is "at the right club" amid fresh speculation over his Manchester United future.

Neither the player nor his manager Sir Alex Ferguson were happy that the issue was raised again ahead of Tuesday night's Champions League tie with FC Porto.

Ferguson wondered aloud "how many times" more he would have to endure this line of questioning before describing the continued speculation as "pathetic". Ronaldo shrugged and said: "We always have this question."

The 23-year-old simply repeated the position he has stuck to since reaffirming his commitment to United last summer after a face-to-face meeting with Ferguson appeared to stop the rumblings linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

"I am happy at this club. I think it is the right club," said Ronaldo.

It has once again been suggested a deal has been done between United and Real for the transfer of the 2008 European and World Player of the Year this summer.

Yet at the Club World Cup last December, Ferguson claimed he would not sell Real "a virus", a position that does not appear to have softened judging by his pointed response this afternoon.

One of the reasons Ronaldo is said to favour a move to La Liga is that he has become fed up of being targeted by opposition defenders, eager to stop the former Sporting Lisbon star by whatever means possible.

Log on on Tuesday evening for live updates on the game including pictures, polls and your chance to comment

Yet Ronaldo does not feel he is suffering any more than he has done at other stages since arriving in England six years ago.

"It has always been like that," he said.

"It is not only this season that defenders have kicked me to try and stop me. It is just normal."

Ronaldo played a major role in taking United back to the top of the Barclays Premier League yesterday with his two-goal haul against Aston Villa that took his seasonal tally to 20.

United are now a point ahead of Liverpool, with a game in hand.

"We are the best team in England," Ronaldo said.

"We have shown that by being top of the table. That speaks for itself.

"We respect all our opponents but if we carry on winning, we will win the title again."

Indeed, United are still on track to record an unprecedented quintuple, with Ronaldo not quite being as dismissive about the project as Ferguson.

"We have a chance to win everything this season," said Ronaldo.

"First we have to beat FC Porto. After that, we must carry on."

What do you think? Have your say.

Talk is cheap. He will be off in the summer. You need the capital (Not where you live) to buy more players

This time last year, you Berties were telling us that Chelsea would win the League, Chelsea would win the European Cup and Ronaldo would be with the best club in the world in 2008/9. Still, at least you got one in three right!!

A Manc and blue,
Talk may be cheap, but more than twenty goals and still firing them in must impress even a bitter like you. Not to mention that United are top of the table with only a few games left, still in the FA Cup, still in the CL, World Champions, European Champions, Carling Cup Winners and the best team in Manchester too.

why has he not signed an improved contract then (if it has been offered?), as the day where he can bug it out is looming large!!

Manc and blue, do one back to the dark side you should be more concerned with the laughting stock of a club that you are suppose to support, you seem to spend more time on the reds site. Are you really a red? CR is going nowhere, why would he want to, he is already at the best club in the world.

it is so refreshing having a city supporter make the first comment

a manc and blue, lets face it the only team that needs help is yours, and as for cheap talk... where are all these superstars that were promised to your fans??? this summer will be a funny one... you will go and break the transfer record on another hype player like robhino and then go and get ripped off paying 20mil for your Jo's and Bellamy's when u realise that most world class players like to play for world class teams and not play for an extra mil or two every year

How sad to be a supporter of a team that cannot keep you focussed on how you played past Monday. Bitters in Wastelands are an endangered species who will once again find Ronnie embarrasing them next year. At his age with his fame and with everyone telling him he is the best in the world it is no surprise that he has considered playing in the Sun. However he sees the benefit of being with the World Champions (all bitters please read this line again as its as close as you will EVER get to the trophy)European Champions and, of course, CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND.

Rock on Ronnie, we all know Scholesy can't tackle so most of us don't expect you to either. Keep banging in the goals and we will be happy.

A Manc and blue, - Ronaldo or no...United will always be a bigger and better club than City.

Manc and Glue, You could not be more wrong as time will show. The article in the Guardian was shot thro' with "wishful thinking" from Spain. Again I have to direct Sittay bitters to the League table which speaks the international language of mathematics and statistics and clearly indicates the difference between my beloved United and your host of "wannabees". Your obsession with all things United may have certain
Freudian undertones.

You seem to be labouring under some misapprehension, it is you who need 11 new players not us. Champions of England, Champions of Europe, etc and we already have the youngsters who will eventually take over from the older players when they retire. Anyway, thanks for your concern but stick to working out how City can manage a 2nd away win in the league.

No mention that now and again Twinkle Toes is the one doing the kicking! Your picture should have the captian "the two most hated men in football".

Its time to set the bird free.....! as much as t'wil be hard for many of you to accept, Ron will be on his way to Madrid. It is his dream en that will play a major factor. plus dont expect him to be a wonderboy forever, with injuries to start coming especially with the kind of tackles he's been getting of late. I give him 3 more years before it starts taking its toll, then he is history. i'd rily love him to stay BUT...lets cash in on him while he is worth the mega bucks. He's also a cheeky one, the way he courted with Madrid last summer?? He will be a goner!

bluedefence "the two most hated men in football"??
They are only hated because of their successes in football by fans who support clubs that never achieved anything. MCFC are a prime example. SAF has been knighted due to his services to the sport and his managerial skills have made Man U the world class club it is today.
I have heard that SAF is after signing Robbino before he leaves to play for a certain club in Brazil in summer. Ronaldo has nobody to clean his boots and Robbino fits the bill perfectly.

He he he he. All that's for sale is not necessarily available to Settee.

If you dont produce results fast it's your oeners who will get disgusted and leave. If you do produce results, the credit would be entirely your owner's.

Thanks Ronny, for saying what you did.You mean the world to us.

And a special salute to the two wonderful strikes by you.

Come on you guys, stop falling for the chidish jibes of a jealous little nobody. Resist the temptation to respond to such drivel. Concern yourselves only with what WE HAVE achieved and what more WE WILL achieve!

As for Ronnie - be so very proud to watch a genuine World class player for as long as SAF is Manager! He has his faults - so what? His skills and match winning ability surpasses any of his negative aspects. I am so thankful that he plays for us!!!

Believe Believe Believe!!!!

bluedefence (do settee have a defence???) - perhaps the caption should read "The two most successful people in football" - we know that success breeds jealousy and hatred so I can see where you're coming from when you see the most successful British manager of all time (the manager of the current English, European and World Champions) sitting beside the current English, European and World footballer of the year - and they belong to United. It must really get to you (not that you would ever show it, eh?). I remeber at the start of the season, just after settee's amazing last minute swoop for... some average Brazilian, that the papers had headlines saying "Hughes eyes silverware" (where was he? in the trophy room at Old Trafford perhaps) and the settee fans where out with their manky tea towels (should perhaps have washed them first) and now here we are at the business end of the season and we're talking about another Champions League quarter final, top of the league, an FA Cup semi final to come and already got the World Championship and league cup in the bag. So much for settees new world order.

blue defence,

Stop making a fool of yourself quickly - we are all fully aware that spelling and speaking english isn't a bitter strong point.

Well done, keep making us laugh. Don't forget, 7.30pm ITV Manchester United vs Porto - bet you already have your alarm set for it

seem to be more Bitters on here than Reds so far. I wonder why. I could not care less who City buy and i don't do more than glance at the article at most and definitely don't bother posting. I wonder why the Bitters are so interested? Self-explanatory really. the usual jealous bitter rantings with you all hoping deep down that he just goes as that might give "the richest club in the world" a chance to overhaul Man U to be kings. You could buy Kaka and Terry and we could lose Vidic, Ronaldo and Rooney and still finish 10 points ahead of City.

For the Reds at least most of you now realise the Real Madrid tap up tactics and here is is again. They always send some of their paid up Marca and As press goons to any press conference to ask the same tired old question. A proper journalist will just ask about the game. Calderon opened his mouth at any opportunity. This Perez guy is even worse. He keeps quiet but sends his minions out to do the rhetoric talking so he can proclaim innocence. I realised this when living in Madrid back in 2001 and the reason I call him "Sauron" as that is how he spreads his evil propaganda. Plus Madrid don't have the money you think. They talk big but the max they would lay down up front would be 20m. Either that or get the King to sign another tax-payers cheque to massage their own egos while spanish unemployment heads on towards 20%. You wonder why Atletico, Barca, Valencia fans and all the rest hate them so much. Not only do they have to listen to this garbage all the time, they are paying for the club they despise. They are the biggest disgrace in football
