Like so many of his Old Trafford team-mates, the France defender has gone away on international duty still baffled as to how United have slipped up in their last two league games.
By the time they are next in action, against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on April 5, they may no longer be top of the table.
Two matches in hand over Liverpool would give the Reds a chance to re-establish their supremacy but after a heavy home defeat against Rafael Benitez's men, followed by a dismal defeat at Fulham, nothing can be taken for granted.
However, Evra is confident United will soon be back to their best.
"I have been at Manchester United for three years now and this is the first time I have lost two straight matches," said the former Monaco full-back.
"I am sure it is just a little accident."
With 20 players away, Ferguson has taken the bold decision to take on Villa just 48 hours before United entertain FC Porto in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The Reds chief did have the option of moving the Premier League game back a day, with a 12.45 kick-off already pencilled in.
However, Ferguson felt an extra day's preparation would be beneficial given the likes of Carlos Tevez and Anderson - who are both in line to face Martin O'Neill's men when Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes and Nemanja Vidic will all be suspended - will not return from draining trips to South America until Friday afternoon.

I don't think so Patrice - this is major and needs sorting like now!
If we win our game in hand and make the gap to 4 points we will be ok.
Hope they will all be fit and up to continueing the fight !!
c'mon United
I'm hopeful that this break will do us the World of good and help the team reflect and respond in the correct way-which is to go out and play like their lives depended on it. The Dippers must privately be ruing not playing straight away again, as the "Momentum" is with them. Hopefully this'll slow them down- a couple of injuries to their 2 key men wouldn't go a-miss either..lol
Lets keep the faith and support the Lads now....i for one have done my bleating and i think many of us have vented our Spleen's, so enough is enough, lets get behind the Lads and push them over the line!!
You said it Pat - now go out & "trounce" Villa to back yer statement.
I think we will draw against Villa
ITS ALL OVER, FACE IT , VILLA ARE WELL DUE A WIN, THE BLUES WILL TURN UTD OVER BIG TIME IN MAY, HANDING THE TITLE TO LIVERPOOL, PLUS ENDEARING HIS SELF TO THE FEW BLUES WHO HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT HIM.!
Oh my god, what is it with our players and there talking the talk!!
As i posted on the 'Rio experience' article, our lads need to shut up and play football, for the shirt, for the fans and then leave the talking to the media!!
we have had Rio, Giggsy, Evra, Fletch (on sky sports news today) and the great Oaf Shea all talking the talk since the scouse humiliation...plus wazza's hate remark prior to our 'performance'!!!
then they back it all up by losing with 9 men against a team we demolished 4-0 only 14 days prior!!
Shut up, play football and stop all the petulance
Oh what a difference a couple of weeks make. The one thing that gave me most confidence was the fact that should Liverpool win all their remaining games, we could still drop 9 pts and still win the title. Well....2 games gone and we've dropped 6 already. I know teams have to lose eventually but I tells ya......my nerves don't need this right now. I have every faith in the lads and there is enough experience there to win this thing. This Villa game has rapidly become a HUGE game for us. We should beat them (should being the operative word). We still have City and Arsenal to play (albeit both at home.....but then again, so was Liverpool), we also have Wigan and Sunderland away, throw Spurs into the mix and ......... I think I'm beginning to crack. Come on lads, let's get back to winning ways.
with the FA plot firmly in place ie Friedel allowed to play, I wonder if this was the other way around would the red card have been dropped. But what is interesting about Friedel is how he becomes the world's best against us and againts the dippers last week looked like he would struggle to get in goal for a pub team.
Anyway heres to 9 straight wins in the league;-)
No sweat, you've got the double in the bag already. Who needs a quintuple.
By the way, was the European Super Cup a more meaningful trophy than the World Club Cup?
Yep, too much fighting talk coming out of the camp these days and it's all soft talk really. Pointless stuff. Had it before and after liverpool game and again this week. I'm surprised as I think united usually keep a pretty tight grip on what goes to press.
Players need to stay away from the press, keep their heads down, get on with international duty and do their talking for united on April 5th. Leave the spin to fergie.
RUBBISH YOUR CRAP CITY ARE BETTER AND YOULL BEG AT OUR KNEES SOON,BUT I DO BANK WELL.
Listen, Mr Evra, you might be a United player but I have been a season ticket holder since before the obstetrician cut your umbilical cord. So, let me assure you in no uncertain terms that back-to-back defeats and conceding six goals during the reign of Sir Alexander Chapman Ferguson ain't no bloody 'little accident,' pal. It's almost a catastrophe which could cost us dearly!
I can take a joke (david/ north m/c, I hate city at 17.53)but I can't understand your post, go on, own up ,who are you ?
Fearless Frank......You have just made a mockery out of your own nickname! Should read: "Not so fearless Frank" Ha Ha!
It's over now boys, the last 2 matches that is. So lets put it behind us, where it needs to be put and just get on with business on the pitch !
I can see United blowing the title now and their form collpasing just like the bad spell Liverpool had. Whats more I can see City winning at Old Trafford again too.
I just cant see United beating Villa especially as Villa cant keep on losing even though Liverpool were able to take them apart at will
CAPTAIN AWOL
remember KEANO's explosion a few years back cause he saw his beloved MUFC starting to get complacent. i personally dont think our captains this season have taken control when the chips are down and have not recognised this evil creeping in. Alex did and made mention of it in Feb but has done little to reinforce his threats of axing the culprits. maybe give rooney the armband cause he is not afraid of anybody in the teams and his performances match in and match out justify him giving any memeber of the team a real talking too. sanji-mufc (sa)
I remember saying on here a few weeks ago that while this United side were good, I wasn't sure they had the tools to fight back like the 94 and 99 teams when they went a goal down. Those teams seemed to take it as an insult/challenge if such a situation occured. A lot of people seemed to disagree with my assessment but it is becoming clear that this United side lack a bit of mental strength. Doesn't mean they haven't got talent, just that we need to try to score more goals and make sure we start scoring first (losing to Liverpool after scoring fist is very unusual by our standards).
Hopefully this break will work in our favour - the target now has to be 7 wins out of 9 games (as Liverpool will drop a couple more points) which with 5 games at home is surely something we can achieve.
Ambient;you in your current mind set would not be the person to go into battle with. You are talking like a Liverpool supporter who just wishes to unhinge UNITED.
Lord Ruud, that seems a bit of a leap. We've lost two games, at a vital time, through individual errors, not because we lost our nerve. I don't see any different mental state in the players to this time last season. We just seem to have saved all of our silly errors for one week in the season. As long as we get all of the players back safely from the far flung corners of the world then I think things will be fine. Injuries to key players may make things worse but I don't think attitude or mental strength is an issue.
That said, I do think that we a short one loud midfielder who can translate coaching instructions from the sidelines and translate them into high volume words of one syllabel. We only really need that person for a handful of games a season but it is an issue. We don't seem to have anyone on our books in the midfield who can speak any higher than a whisper. It doesn't need to be the spikey Keane type, just someone that will make it clear what their responsibilities are to players who aren't contributing 100%.
George Evans
"into battle with" a little bit fanciful that isn't it? Its only a game you know, or are you fighting proxy wars?
T&C - I agree that silly mistakes have cost us recently and sadly from experienced players who really should know better. People don't seem to be recognising that totally on here, probably cause the players were made by players they like such as Vidic, Evra and Scholes. But if those same mistakes had been made by O'Shea, Rafael and Fletcher - we would never hear the end of it.
I've raised this concern before but this team are very good when the sun is shining, but when they go a goal behind there is too much waiting for something to happen, and there is only really Rooney who tends to seize the moment. When we lost Keane in 2005, I believe it helped a lot of players relax more especially players like Ronaldo. As you have mentioned before, in the main we haven't really missed that vocal nature, but recently against say Liverpool at 1-1, someone needed to steady the ship in the middle of defence or midfield and no-one did.
I still think with the talent we have we should be fine, although we need to start scoring again (and not just from pens, freekicks and corners). But the reason I believe people are asking questions about mental strength is it is very unusual for United to lose 2 games on the run these days, especially with a week's rest in the middle. Although I do think Fergie has to take some of the blame as he got his last 2 teams wrong - underestimating both Liverpool and Fulham in his selections.
