The strength of the euro against the pound has helped Real Madrid maintain their position at the top, despite a 21% increase in revenue for United, according to the Deloitte Football Money League.
Barcelona are third in the list, while Bayern Munich have climbed above Chelsea (fifth) and Arsenal (sixth) to be fourth.
United are due to announce their figures shortly, but Deloitte are predicting the club will reveal revenue of £257million in 2007/08 compared to £210million in the previous 12 months.
Dan Jones, partner in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, said: "Real Madrid's 4% revenue growth is more modest than recent years, but the club have doubled their revenues since 2002 and have a lead of £32.5m over Manchester United.
"Real have announced they are budgeting for revenues of 400m euro (£360m) in 2008/09, so it will be difficult for rivals to replace them at the top of the Money League next year.
"Manchester United's success in winning the Premier League and Champions League has contributed to significantly-increased revenue in 2007/08, but the depreciation of the pound against the euro means they remain in second position."
All the English clubs suffered from the currency issue - Barcelona's revenue increased by only 6%, while Chelsea and Arsenal enjoyed rises of 11.5% and 18% respectively yet both Premier Leagues sides saw themselves fall a place. Liverpool, however, have gone up a place to seventh with a 25% rise in turnover.
Jones added: "If the value of the pound had not depreciated, there would have been nine, rather than seven English clubs in the top 20 - and Manchester United would have topped the Money League ahead of Real Madrid."
English clubs should continue to feature heavily in the list in future years following last week's announcement by the Premier League of a slight increase in domestic broadcast rights to £1.78billion for 2010-2013. Overseas rights are expected to increase even further.
Celtic, however, have dropped out of the top 20 clubs in the Money League - and Manchester City have come in.

I'm not normally interested in the "we're the biggested club in the world rubbish" however, I do think this top 20 list is pretty accurate. Maybe Juve and Roma in reverse. I see our blue friends have scraped in Europe's Premier League.
But! But! But! Man City keep being hailed as the riches club in the Whole Wide World.
Is some one telling Porky Pies? Tutt, Tutt.
The pound has lost at least a fifth of its value against the Euro. If Sterling hadn't lost so much we'd have topped the list with approx 310 million.....
Mrs Fullaway`s lodger, just saw you said what I was going to see. If the pound had not been such a disaster; that gap with those mongrels in white would be significantly lower!
WE ARE GETTING REALLY MASSIVE £82 MILLION COME ON CITY LETS SEE HOW MASSIVE WE CAN GET.
Always makes me laugh these reports about biggest in revenues. Real may have slightly bigger revenues but being run with all the business acumen of an orang-utan banging on a tin dustbin lid with a hammer means their profits are much lower. It is operating profit that counts more and depreciated pound or not United have beaten all-comers on that front.
As we all hopefully know, United benovelently enter in collective bargaining for TV deals - Real (And Barca) demand and get the lions share of TV money in Spain and screw the rest (hence Valencia's incurred debt in an effort to keep pace). If we sold our TV rights (+ web/phone) independently, we would immediately receive double to treble the amount we currently do and blow everyone else out of the water. It will happen one day, and that is what the Darth Glazer and his vultures are waiting for.
We could also question the 200m euro gift Real received from the council for thier training ground a few years back. It amounted to a gift because the council gave the same land to them 30 years ago for pennies. That was effectively a government bail out that enabled them to clear the reckless operating debt they incurred during the galactico era.

I'm sure you grasp the difference between revenue (money actually earned by a club) and assets, or wealth of club owners or directors. City never claim to make the most money, and they never will make as much as United. Needless to say their owners are rolling in it, so their "richest club" tag is true-ish but only tells half the story. Their owners have to loan money to the club (like Abramovich) so they can spend as they wish - our club generates the money we spend. I can't seem them just giving the money to City, as they will want to sell it one day and recoup as much of their investment as possible. Or maybe they are complete idiots and prone to giving massive gifts at the same time as their overall net wealth declines rapidly.
ADVICE: Why don't you people do a little research before slating City's position in this Rich List?
FACT: This table is based on last season's profit, long before City's prospective takeover and doesn't even include the lucrative Champion's League deal your club are fortunate to receive.
Also, what you need to put into context is the difference between the type of people who watch City and utd. The majority of City fans travel from within Greater Manchester to watch a home match and only spend money on a ticket, pie and a pint. Compared to the diverse folk who travel from far and wide to watch utd. Making a vacation of it, spending vast amounts on such things like; stadium tours, expensive merchandise and memorabilia, costly tickets, corporate facilities etc etc...
So you need to bear in mind the possibility of City qualifying for the Champs league sometime in the future, then I'm sure you'll see City getting on board the gravy train which utd have been on for many years. I bet you won't be gloating so much at City's profit then! It's inevitable whether you like it or not, so get used to it!!! 33 years and we're still here!!!

ADVICE: You need to pay more attention at school fella. While you make some valid points most are ludricous.
How are we "lucky" to receive CL money? The money is also not that huge unless you are successful, or are a very high profile team (and get put on TV). It will be some time before City are either of these. We get more from the Prem TV deal. In fact Wigan probably get more from the Prem that most CL teams get from the CL.
So our global supporters come to OT and use our corporate facilities do they? That would be hilarious to see but it sounds like guff to me. Ok, we have global fans and they come and spend - but it is because we have been SUCCESSFUL for decades that they come - no other reason! Do you think City will be immune to that if you finally win something?? And is our merchandise any more of a rip-off than yours? Ask all those who bought shirts with Kaka on the back, the prices are more or less the same but the difference is we have more fans because we are more SUCCESSFUL!! Our club reperesents, in almost every way, exactly what City and most other clubs aspire to. But you are too bitter to see it. You will see it if it ever happens.
If you think for a minute that City will make one shred of operating profit in the next decade you are a complete fool who is yet to to grasp the very basics of business and economis. Have Chelsea made any profit with their similar approach - not for years. They run at a massive loss every year (100m lasy year) because their spending is much higher than their revenue. Unless you somehow acquire an extra ten million fans in the next few years (and guess where they will come from, not Manchester..)with a desire to buy your shirts you will do the same - your spending will rocket as you throw money around on players, but your revenues will only grow slowly. Get a grip.
We are number two! We are number two! Really, what does it matter and whose interested?
The real proof is what you do on the pitch and we are certainly number one in that respect.....
Champions of England, Europe and the world!!!!!!!!!
Weird how our UK media are reporting this as a "kick in the pants" for Man Utd, yet as a real positive for Real Madrid!!
So it's okay for Real Madrid to make lots of money & pay huge transfer fees etc - but when it's a team from Northern England, it's just so VULGAR & GREEDY & OBSCENE isn't it??
The British media, eh???
3 facts to consider
apparently united's 23m nike agreement does not show in these figures.
the fall in value of sterling had it retained its value post dec 2007 united would be ahead of madrid.
madrid post beckham have increased their revenues year on year. so that kind of kills of the myth about goldenballs and other superstar players being worth multi millions in merchandising profits THER ARE'NT and never were.
Boring! All this says to me is that the fat cat clubs are earning a lot of money! Great and this is largely because they charge obscene amount for the privelege of watching a game of football. The profits they make are never put back in the pockets of the very supporters that line them in the first place. Then there's the poor fans at OT who are forced to buying cup tickets - Nice club! Will Utd reduce their prices? Remains to be seen but I doubt it.
rib inho sale
am not a great fan of supply and demand , but the fact that city fail to sell out the council house for more than a couple of games a season is possibly the reason for the price reduction. having said that even when they offered large reductions and 2 for 1 offers to get bums on seats tens of thousands of the "most" loyal fans refused ciddy's kind offer. just what will the sheikh have to do to fill that ground give seats away????
I see City are in their usual position in this league as well.
BOTTOM - ha ha.
bobby dazzler, our rented accommodation isn't sold out every game but we aren't utd and we haven't won anything for 33 years so I'm not surprised. That said our crowds have gone up this season and the ground has been sold out on 4 occasions - WOW! Seriously though compare us to Villa, Everton and similar sized clubs to us and our crowds are consistently better even though we've waited much longer for success than either of them.
We've waited a long time for even a sniff of a successful team but let's face it the club has sound financial backing now and doesn't necessarily need to be turning over huge sums of money. Who knows, it might change but all I'm saying is earning lots of money and alienating your indigenous fan base is nothing to be proud of.
Those in prominent positions at Real in the last year took on United in particularly underhand fashions. The results: Schuster - gone! Calderon - gone! Ronaldo - still at United! Champions of Europe - United! World Champions - United!
I'm sure there's a message here for Real. I'm not sure what it is.
United and neutral fans, such as blues from Eastlands, please help...
