Ronaldo: I'm happy at United

CRISTIANO Ronaldo has said he is “very happy” at Manchester United.

The Manchester United winger has been back in the headlines again over the past 48 hours, thanks to more speculation linking him with Real Madrid.

But comments from Real director Pedro Trapote have been greeted with disdain at Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson claiming 'I wouldn't sell them a virus' following his team's 5-3 Club World Cup victory over Gamba Osaka.

Ronaldo opted not to get embroiled in the war of words between two clubs, who may get drawn together in the Champions League knockout round tomorrow.

However, he has confirmed he remains happy with life at Old Trafford - after Ferguson persuaded him to stay last summer.
“I don't care what people are saying,” he said. “I have not read it. I am here in Japan and I know nothing about what is going on around me. But I am very happy playing for Manchester United.”

I said in my other email, it's a red herring. This comes days after RM were beaten by Barca and fell 12 points behind and practically out of the La Liga title race. Coincidence? I don't think so. Schuster-gone, Calderon-going. At this rate, they need to keep count of the number of 'body bags' before the season is over rather than disturb us. CR has learned his lesson well, come out and squelch the rumor early and unequivocally. Well done! Go MU!

"I wouldn't sell them a virus". Absolutely BRILLIANT!!! At least Ronaldo is saying he is happy and being dismissive rather than saying "only god knows the future, but it is my dream". His performances to improve, cut out the petulance and sign a contract and he will have a place back in my heart that he had this time last year.

With all coach changes and no meaningful improvement on the results, RM know prety well there're out of the laliga race and there is nothing to lift the spirit of their fans except to offer them the only acceptable 'good news', a blatant lie. Just look at the players they're buying, e.g. Lassana Diara from Pompey. That's as far as their budget can stretch these days. Even if Ronaldo were to be solved, Real would have to sell no less than 4 players to raise enough money. I hope this does not unsettle our player this time. My dream, even your dream too, is to be drawn against this Real thing for the next CL match. By the way the draw is only an hour away. What a draw that could be. Game of the decade!

Sincere? Who can say but I wouldn't bet my mortgage on it. But it does show that what he and his agent lack in class is more than made up for by their understanding of current world economics. Real never had - and won't have anytime soon - the money to make an appropriately acceptable bid for Ronnie. And it's unlikely he could significantly improve his salary over what he now makes without stirring up that snake pit of player unrest characteristic of Sadrid.

Still, I hope he gets an improved contract to some degree, to futher strengthen our leverage in the future, and to reward the way he has elevated his play (not always in the most dignified of manners) his new standing in world football. Any grumbling in the squad could be handled in the following manner: Rio, Rooney, Carrick (tee-hee), when you recieve the Ballon d'Or we will bump your pay as well.
