It is the first in what is expected to be a host of individual honours for the 23-year-old, who scored 42 goals for Manchester United on their way to Champions League and Premier League title glory last term.
Ronaldo had suggested last week he could do no more than he did to be crowned the best player on the planet and peers from over 40 countries are in agreement.
At £12.2million, Ronaldo has proved to be a bargain since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, growing steadily into the most influential player in the United team.
It is anticipated Ronaldo will also scoop the Balon D'Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year award, with the Portugal international - who has also been named in FifPro's world team of the year - keen to remain at Old Trafford for another couple of seasons at least.
Central defender Rio Ferdinand joined his United teammate in the FifPro team of the year.
The defender may have turned in a shaky display at Everton on Saturday but generally the 29-year-old has been superb throughout 2008.
Indeed, many believe his recent eloquent attack on the WAGS culture around England's abysmal 2006 World Cup campaign bore all the hallmarks of the captain Fabio Capello should have appointed.
Other Premier League players to have made the side are John Terry, Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres.
Barcelona's Carles Puyol and Xavi are joined by Real Madrid duo Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos.
The presence of Lionel Messi and Kaka explains why Reds duo Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez did not make the final cut.
Kaka has remained loyal to AC Milan, despite a dip in standards for the Serie A side that has forced them into the UEFA Cup this term.
However, there is little debate about the talent of a man who was crowned world footballer of the year in 2007.
The same also goes for Messi, the inspiration behind Barcelona's stunning recent performances, even if the brilliant South American could not guide the Catalans past United in the Champions League semi-final last term.
FifPro team: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), John Terry (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Carles Puyol (Barcelona), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Kaka (AC Milan), Xavi (Barcelona), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Fernando Torres (Liverpool), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United).
:::FifPro is the world-wide umbrella organisation for the PFAs around the globe and includes more than 40 associations meaning that thousands of players have registered their votes for the awards. The awards are now in their fourth year and the previous winners are Ronaldinho (twice) and Kaka.
What do you think? Have your say.

27/10/2008 The reason Rooney is not in the team is because this is based on the 2007/08 season NOT this current season by his own admission Rooney did not play well last season.

going to the best players,
not just the top goal scorers. If Ronaldo was awesome last term, Rio was even better. Defenders and
defensive midfielders are often the positions on the park that dictate the play,
the game. I'd like to see
the Paul Scholes and Andre
Perlo style players winning
awards, these guys have the
football brains other more
athletic types (Ronaldo, Drogna, Kaka, can only dream
of. Who's the best player in
the world? It's not always
the highest scoring player
(who often get up there
on penalties and free kicks)
Up the Reds,

Seriously, you shouldn't take these Teams of the Year seriously. That team would struggle against Stoke or West Brom because it's totally unbalanced.

Looks like we will be hearing more about him with the list of awards still to be decided yet. But yes, let's hear more about Fletcher and the boys!!!

Xavi is OK. Kaka has gone off the boil. Gerrard has always been overrated. It's a midfield made in hell.
You may like players at other clubs much more than you like any of ours, that's up to you, but I wouldn't swap any of our midielders for Xavi, Kaka or Gerrard; or Fabregas, Lampard or Ballack. They just wouldn't fit in. I've listed 6 midfielders that you rate above all of ours. Please count the winners medals.
