VDS 6, Wes 7, Ferd 7, Vida 6, Evra 7, CR 6, DF 4, AND 7, RG 7, WR 8, DB 7.
Berba starting to play/look the part. Even hustled to win possession in the lead-up to Wazza's goal. Good stuff.
Anderson was tidy but strangely subdued in the 1st half. Much better in the 2nd, driving forward more, like last season. It was good to see. Despite a few sloppy moments, everyone played pretty well. The ratings are about right.
Solid team performance by Utd. Very pleasing to see. Then again, Blackburn lacked their usual bite which was synonymous under Sparky's reign. All in all... good performance by the team! Wow! Great Roonhey
Would agree with the ratings.
Best game from Anderson we have seen in a while and Fletcher was more than adequate alongside him. Wouldn't attach much significence to Ronaldo's performance considering the amount of competitive football he has played since the end of last season, will take a few more games yet to reach full match fitness.
Back Four were great yet again. Wes(8) was outstanding - most improved defender in the Premiership - nice to see the England boss there to enjoy it! The rest all 7.
Fletch(8) played really well also and outshone Anderson (6) by some distance, though the pair did a fine job for the side.
Ron (7) did fairly well, no more, but always seems to manage at least an assist and that's why he's so special & important to the side - the difference I guess.
Giggs (7) played very well and looked as fresh as a daisy. Great to see now that Scholes is missing for a while.
The Roon (8+) is definitely getting there and deserves man of the match. His best game this season by a mile.
Wish I could say the same about the Berb (6) who for me was a shade disappointing. Some nice touches yes but still some distance from his best performanes at Spurs. I can wait!!!
better perfomance by anderson and dimitar berbatov..
We look pretty good. Vidic has found his feet again after a period where, by his standard, he wasn't on top of everything. Brown has picked up the glove and will fight for the right back spot against both the young and the old man who tries to take the place from him. Midfield; Ronaldo will get better and better. Anderson will be tremendous in the not so very far future. Fletcher is a very great player to have in the squad. Giggs is, a bit to my surprise, doing very well as central midfielder, filling in for Scholes. Berbatov is adapting for every game played and has now showed why he's been compared to Cantona. Rooney is also going in the right direction and my guess is that he'll fight Ronaldo and Berbatov for the top scorer spot this season. Add that we have Carrick, Hargreaves and Scholes out, there's little doubt that the squad looks rock solid. My only doubt is wheter we have got enough quality on the wings. Ronaldo; no question, but I still has my doubts regarding Nani.
Roger of Norway I have concerns about Nani as well. He seems not to be part of the team when he plays. Perhaps time on the team, being little older, and improved language skills will make the difference. If he played as a team member rather than an individual he would be more effective. He has the individual skills and speed.
Shorty, agree with you. The problem about Nani isn't his skills - he's got loads of talent and could become one hell of a player. But the key is as you point at; he must become more of a team player.
Gerry, Glatonbury, I think you just have adjust the way you evaluates Berbatov. You'll never see him work frenetic like Tevez. The style of his play is so different - and it brings something so different to our team. He doesn't look like he's got pace but I'd take a good bet that he'd beat Tevez and maybe Rooney at a 60 yrd sprint. He hasn't been at his best yet, but already we've got glimpses of his vision and imagination. Yesterday it was just a bit of bad luck, decent goalkeeping and a bit of bad finishing that prevented Berbatov walking off with two brilliant assists.
My MOM was non other than Wes Brown. Rooney took his goal very well and created Wes' goal, so I can understand why everyone would pick him. On Nani. It all depends on him now. Carlos Queroz who brought him to the club is gone. To a crtain extent Anderson and lesser extent Ronaldo.
I thought 6 For Ronaldo a bit harsh - esp given the work he did to make the second goal. Yes, not yet at his peak level, but he certainly put in the sweta and had some great link up play. 7.
Giggs, we all agree, has been great this season. Play him sparingly and he will give us top performances - esp from midfield.
What do you say, Barry? Oh dear, do you only come alive when Giggs has an off-day?
The moral of the story is - don't doubt Fergie - he certainly know his onions and while he is only human and will make mistakes, this side he has put together is going to be the best yet.....!
Wes edged MOM for me - just - from Rooney. Great performances from them both. Wes' challenge on Warnock in the second half must have registered on the richter scale!
7 for everyone else in what was a terrific team performance.
bobbyd, following your comments last week that Fletcher takes 3 or 4 touches to get the ball under control, I watched him closely. One touch to control the ball, every time, normally followed by a pass to a team mate. 68 successful passes out of 76 - what's that, 90%? Certainly the best of any other player on the pitch yesterday.
Anderson did a fine job of
keeping the ball. He was always available and switched
the ball nicely helping United probe from left to right and back. One if his
most assured and mature performances yet! Give the
lad an 8. Watching the game
in such sodden conditions made me feel all warm and cozy from this vantage point in Northern California. Before my sons game today me and the missis had to dous ourselves with tons of sun block, take bottles of water and a big umprella to keep us from the hot sun.
I like that!
Up the Reds,
Up the Reds,
Ronaldo is still very far from his best. But if he continue to score or provide at least an assist each match, I'm satisfied.
Also, he does not seems to gel too well with Berba, unlike Rooney. Hope they'll work on this, and soon.
Everytime we seem to go to the land that time forgot... it p's it down...... never an easy place.... so 8's all round for me..... while the locals are left to gag their blister.
happy days
Alias, I think you might to need to invest in a new 'Fletch-cam'. Or maybe you just missed the first half dawdling/losing possession, errant passing and conspicuous missing of a total sitter? He improved after the break, but before then he'd been the worst Utd player (by some considerable margin).
alias his control was much better on saturday i didnt invent the situation for the previous game it was there for all to see.
as for his pass completion you may well be right but cant remember him putting anybody through for a goal attempt. as usual most of his completed passes were sideways and backwards
he also got himself into a great scoring position again on saturday should have buried it. it seems that when we play 4-3-3 it is possible after all for midfield players to get into scoring positions. giggs also had an effort on goal. all that we need now is for the midfielders to start converting more of the chances they are getting.
do you remeber the two occasions df was caught napping on the edge of the box again that led directly to shots on goal on another day it could have been costly.
the lad had a decent game on saturday as did a lot of the team but it must be said blackburn were woeful.
Wes was MotM, His tackle in the dying minutes was awesome, and he hopefully is learning to score more in the oppositions goal than our own. Still believe he has scored more own goals than goals for though !!!
Robbo, I think you may need to have your Fletcher-cam removed from your backside. It's way off-beam. It's only you and the mad American who thinks Fletcher had a poor game. Most papers, commentators and people on here think he was fine.
bobbydazzler, the two times Fletcher was caught in possession near the penalty area he was played into trouble by Rooney. Rooney also played risky balls to Wes and Rio and got a mouthful for his troubles. So even someone with only an eye for Fletcher's faults can only find two things wrong, both because he was played into trouble by a colleague. You'll have to find someone else to hate at this rate!
The ratings are a little unfair on Fletcher and Brown, a little generous on Berbatov and Evra but not overly so.
Have to say I think fletcher has had better games than Saturday. I actually think he did take too long on the ball many times leading to the loss of the chance to break and a couple of times also being caught in possesion.
Robbo, it seems that neither the stats not your fellow Fletcher-basher bobbyd agree with you on this occasion - perhaps your own Fletch-cam is on the blink?
bobbyd, you say most of his completed passes were sideways or backwards. Here are the facts: Dazza played 23 passes to forwards, 15 to either Brown or Evra (mostly bombing on), 17 backward passes and 9 to Anderson. Not exactly the picture you portray.
so alias . remind me please of the opportunities he made for other players i must have missed those.
and how come he managed to get in the penalty area i was led to believe by the desolate one that our system prevents midfield players getting forward. fletch seemed not to have a problem getting to the area . his problems arise when he got atried to put it away. would have put my mortgage on fat frank scoring in that situation. LACK OF TECHNIQUE AND SELF BELIEF what what was missing.
