The Manchester United defender had to miss Saturday's 2-0 win against Andorra because of a neck problem.
But Capello confirmed his vice-captain is fit enough to resume his partnership with John Terry at the centre of defence - which also means he could be available for United's crunch clash with Liverpool on Saturday.
Capello said: "Rio is fit for the game and it is good to have him available because he is a leader and an important player."
Ferdinand was replaced by Everton's Joleon Lescott against Andorra, but ahead of arguably the most important game of England's qualifying campaign, Capello is understandably relieved to have the United man available again.
Ferguson, too, will have been worried about the prospect of travelling to Anfield on Saturday without such a key player.
Meanwhile, Terry has urged England to take control of their World Cup destiny with victory tonight.
"If we win every home game and our big games, we'll be OK," he said. "It's a fresh start for everyone - a new campaign with everybody fighting for a place under the new manager.
"If we can win then great, but if we draw it is a very good result too. They haven't lost here for a while and that is something we're aware of."

it was me and red culture which know that somthing was wrong as tooth and claw continues to delued him self what a joke. how many goals has rooney scored for england over the past five years.
i am not a roony basher . i recgonise that he has all the attributes to be a world class player. he is one of the most complete players united have. apart from his poor heading ability lack of tricks when running at people i would say he is better than ronaldo.
the differance between ronaldo and rooney is hunger. ronaldo stays behied after trainig while rooney gets of for a smoke. i find rooney smoke worrying has know body told he sport and smoking don;t mix.
this is the reason forgein players are better then english. english has the drink and excess cultre where as place like spain do things in moderation

I refer to my previous statement and to some level I agree with you that when things start to heat up the armchair fans come out of the wood work but I guess you would know that fact coming from OT where they all seem to be corporate, from Dublin or down sarf !!
Good Luck on Saturday and I guess you will be backing City to beat Chelski ??

just how does this new philosophy of world domination and expansion of the worldwide brand fit in with the bitters on here who insist you have to live in manchester to support city.

You must mean the hate from all the reds outside manchester. Go on any city forum and other fans from other clubs have all but wished us luck.

Now you know thats is not true, we only have a hated of Rags wherever they come from that is taught to us as young fans. I myself live in Leigh have supported my team since I was eleven and welcome everyone to our ground to share our hospitality ! can you say the same from the swamp I dont think so ! Infact only the other weekend we enjoyed the company of Mr Curbishley and his merry bunch of cowboys and how we thanked him for allowing us to show him how to play the beautiful game !!
