Villa eye Silvestre - report

Mikael Silvestre

ASTON Villa have reportedly sounded out United over a loan deal for left-back Mikael Silvestre.

Villa full-back Wilfred Bouma could be out for six months with a nasty ankle injury sustained against Odense, and Martin O'Neill is looking for cover as the Premier League season approaches.

Silvestre was linked with a move to Bordeaux earlier in the summer but the Ligue 1 side were priced out. Now Villa could be ready to step in, report the Daily Mail.

I don't think he will go anywhere as he wants to get his 10 years in and pick up a testimonial which is big bucks. We have left back cover with JOS so he is surplus as is JOS if SLY stays. We need to cut a couple of squadies to make way for the kids so either should go.

Colin;I suppose if it was a loan deal Silvestre would still be at UNITED and able to appear in a mutch deserved testimonial.I don't think it's all about big bucks Silvestre is a UNITED man.

What does the player want: a testimonial or match minutes?

Im sure Utd would prefer to sell than loan but if it opens a space for a youngster then go for it.

Just looked at the BBC's Premiership's Ins and Outs. Utd is the only club in the PL with no "Ins" listed.

Well, Everton and United are the only two clubs in the prem not to have signed anyone. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all strengthened massively! Are we going to stand still like we did after 1999. That in my opinion was one of SAF's biggest mistakes. We need to advance. We need a class right back and a top forward. I think we will all be very annoyed if we don't sign anyone. Come on SAF, pull a rabbit out of your hat.

no point in letting him go on loan...keep him for cover at lb and cb because he can do the job

people, do we really have to lower ourselves to being jealous of other teams who are spending big already this summer, don't forget how many players we brought in at the start of last season! ..have faith in fergie to do the right thing, he will buy a player if that player is right for the team ..there's plenty of time left to buy a top striker of which there are a few available on the european market if the right money is offered & we already have a class right back in Wesley Brown, who i personally would rather see in the first eleven than any other (& of course Nev if he makes a full come back)

United Through and Through, although you have a point with regards European success, winning the league by a record points margin in 2000 can hardly be regarded as 'standing still' - it was a magnificent achievement, in terms of goals scored, footballe played and points mustered.
I agree it would be better to sign a striker tho.

OK we have not signed anybody, but the biggest signing we are missing is SAF's no 2.

Each time he loses his no 2, i.e. Kidd, McLaren and Carlos (Real Madrid) we struggled.

A new no 2 soon would be good for the club and give the players time to adjust to the new coach.

Keep him, I think he has got one more season in him and he deserves it. I think he is better defensive cover than O'Shea and with Pique gone as well I think he will minutes.
I think if we get Berbatov I'll be happy. I rivals haven't really strengthened that much. Arsenal, at this point, have a weaker squad than last season in my opinion. Chelsea have bought a full back and a veteran midfielder who stands a good chance of being a flop. Liverpool have bought a good player in Keane, who wont be enough and the rest look like the usual guff liverpool sign during these windows.
