Sections of the fans and the media in the Spanish capital have voiced concerns in recent weeks that an attempted acquisition of United superstar Ronaldo would herald a return to the days of the 'Galacticos'.
The infamous policy, started by former president Florentino Perez with the arrival of Luis Figo in 2000, involved the signing of only big-name players - resulting in unrest among the squad.
But while Schuster has moved to reject such theories, he did admit the intense media attention that would surround such a high-profile transfer may have a negative effect on the player himself.
When asked by Spanish newspaper AS if signing Ronaldo would cause problems in the team, the German coach replied: "Not at all.
"Here he'd line up alongside world champions like (Fabio) Cannavaro, important players like Raul, Guti, (Ruud) Van Nistelrooy, Pepe, (Gabriel) Heinze.
"In this Madrid side the kid wouldn't create any problems. I only see it causing a problem for him."
Schuster hinted the levels of media intrusion in Spain would be different to what he was used to in England, and likened the impact his signing would have to that of David Beckham's arrival from Manchester United in 2003.
"The media explosion (would be a problem)," he explained.
Amazing
"For the fans this signing would be an amazing explosion similar to what happened here when Beckham arrived.
"This isn't England, and that change will affect him. We have to be clever about this and sort this problem out for the kid."
On the pitch, however, Schuster foresaw no problems with the Portugal ace fitting into his side, and admitted his time in England has helped him to become a better all-round player.
"He's a player who enjoys his football with the group," he said. "The English way has been a perfect education for a player with such exceptional individual talent.
"There he has learned to enjoy his football as a complete professional. This means we would get a Cristiano who would arrive here with his lessons learned."
While Ronaldo has emerged as the undoubted number one target for the nine-times European champions, Schuster revealed the 23-year-old was not the only name on Madrid's wish-list this summer and that Arsenal's Alexander Hleb was also a target.
"Cristiano would help us in a lot of ways, without a doubt, but we can't stop with just him," he explained.
"He'll be expensive and we'll have to pay a lot of money, but we need more players because he won't be enough.
"For a few months now we've had a plan and we know what we want, but now Hleb has been added to that plan.
"We didn't know he would be able to leave Arsenal, but now it seems he will.
"There are other players we have been looking at, but everything has slowed down a little due to all this Cristiano Ronaldo business, seeing as he is the big priority for the club."

Don’t be fooled by Real Madrid’s latest TACTIC to get Ronaldo from United, by leaking that they are prepared to offer £40M plus Robinho, Ramos, Diarra, etc. It’s literally like that OLD JOKE!
A woman goes into a carriage on a train where there is a man reading his newspaper.
After a few minutes, Man says to the woman: “Will you make love to me for £50?”
Woman replies: “How dare you sir!”
Few minutes later, Man says: “Will you make love to me for £500?”
Woman replies: “How dare you sir, I have already told you once!”
Few minutes later, Man says: “Will you make love to me for £10K”
Woman thinks about for a few moments then replies: “Yes, OK!”
Few minutes later, Man says: “Will you make love to me for £50?”
Woman replies: “What kind of a woman do you take me for?”
Man replies: “We’ve already established that. Now we are just haggling over price!”
United & us supporters should not be foolish enough to fall for this OLD JOKE or any of these silly Madrid tricks! Ronaldo must stay & he will!
Sounds like a done deal. The cheeky bl**ders.
Blah Blah Blah Yawn Blah Blah blah Rhubarb Rhubarb boring Real Big Yawn …Zzzzzzz
Real Madrid are lame. Stop talking about players that dont belong to you. Ronaldo is not going.
The arrogance of Madrid is astounding. ABU's might say United are just as bad, but Madrid are on another level. Schusters openly speaking like Ronaldo is going to Madrid already. AS, MARCA won't let it drop , every chance they get, they will ask someone about Ronaldo and the British media are only to happy to keep the story bubbling along to to sell their papers. unfortunatley Madrid will never give up on Ronaldo and for the next years until his peak we will have to put up with this all the time during transfer windows.
The arrogance of this club is outrageous. This is 100% public tapping up yet UEFA do nothing.
We will not sell him but they should tell Real - 150 million quid and we won't hang up the phone straight away so they get the message
You have 2 larf.
This is going to go on for years. At least Ronaldo knows he's appreciated.
Anyway where are they going to get 40 million from, plus the other players have to be willing to go in the opposite direction.
Yesterday, I was reading that Real were after Drogba with Robinho going in the opposite direction.
This is going to be a long, long summer.
Here we go again...
Really Real you guys just dont get the message do you?
Ronaldo is staying at Man U
ronaldo has failed to deny that he is staying at old trafford on several occasions. looking at it in few ways the clubs are haggerlig over a price , ronaldo dosen't know what he wants or he is trying to get a new contract.
it really sounds like he is going , real will keep coming . they obvousliy aren't happy with the fact united won the CL. they are uniteds biggest rivals on and off the pitch we have to beat them next year. rember i said this united will play them this season comming fact.
Schuster - what a plonker.
To talk like that about someone else's player as though he is in your own team is truly arogant.
If you go back 9 years Real,AC and UNITED have each won it twice! If you only go back a week UNITED have won it more than anyone.UNITED have a real chance to retain the CL Trophy. After they last won it Schmeichel left and Johnson was injured it left a great void in the team. This squad is stronger and getting stronger. That would be our next great achievement.Retain the trophy.
I hope this is Ronaldo playing tricks on madrid and deliberately delaying madrid's other transfer plans so that ManU can get ahead...hard to imagine someone with such total lack of loyalty.
"Here he'd line up alongside world champions like (Fabio) Cannavaro, important players like Raul, Guti, (Ruud) Van Nistelrooy, Pepe, (Gabriel) Heinze.
Fair enough but what age are they all..over 30 on the waine and needing replaced.. Rudd alos had a very public row with Ronnie which Fergie backed Ronnie and sold Rudd why would he go there to play alongside him again..
Ruud Gabby Becks..United has beens Real looking to feed of our unwanted talent thi slast few years..sounds like a global super power to me doesnt it...NOT!!!!
Ronnie knows who the best team are and the best club..he's staying and surely a manager talking about a player like this is tapping up in the most public way?
Fergie is right real have no class..even Mourinho at the |Chavs wouldnt talk about another clubs player until they signed him..and they are classless too!!!
We need to sign that Ronaldo from Real Madrid - he could be a cracking prospect
Fergie is going to lose the plot hearing this lol.
I've being saying for months now though, that this summer is the right time to sell Ronaldo as his value is going to be at its highest.
Lets face it, he isn't going to be around for much longer anyway.
If Madrid are put forward a riduclous proposal, then we should definitely consider it.
Ronaldo is starting to become bigger than United itself and he has the club wrapped around his little finger.
It's not a healthy situation to be in.
Why would Ronnie want to play with late 20 - early 30 year olds when he is playing a team full of some of hbest young playersa in the orld in Anderson, Nani, Rooney, Evra and Tevez? Raul, RVN, Judas Gaby, Canavaro are heardly youngsters are they? Let's put in a cheeky bid for Robben as replacement for Giggs quoting the same "guff" as Schuster has been doing. Saying that though I am really struggling what other player that I would be interested in from their squad... maybe Diarra (thats it after that!)
Ponder all you want mate.
Shaz,
There is no chance of Robben coming to United.
He had his chance a few years ago, but opted for Chelsea instead, which is the biggest mistake he ever made.
Fergie would definitely not give him a second chance, plus he's injury prone aswell.
make no mistake, Ron will leave soon. If it's not this summer (it's because they cant afford him just yet) & he knows that which is why he's keeing his options/comments open.
If he does go now, it would leave a bitter taste just as some of his recent tantrums (on the floor, at vital stages of games) have annoyed a number of match- going reds.
That said, if he waits a few years, i have no problem with him wanting to experience a different culture/style/game etc. It's nearly to be expected.
What's required now, from Ron is a bit of loyalty & in return in a few years, if he still wants to go then allow it. It's that simple - & SaF, as he greatest man-manager of all time, knows it so relax people...... for the moment !
Blimey!
The City page obviously doesn't have a amonopoly on non stories.
Ok MEN where is the 'FERGIE HITS BACK AT SCHUSTER' story?
Go on you know you want to. lol
Ok, really hating this bigger than the club stuff. Why are you saying he's bigger or becoming bigger than the club????! Because he's a fantastic player and possibly the best in the world? Then you say to get rid of players who are becoming bigger than the club? Not very smart, buy talent nurture it to greatness then sell. Not smart at all. Or are you saying he's becoming bigger than the club because of the media coverage? Not his fault! All he has said is : 1. He wants to play in Spain one day (Old news and he has every right just as Keane wanted to play for Celtic one day) 2. He said he WANTS TO STAY AT UNITED but no one knows the future, true (or maybe you guys are psychics??) 3. He said he doesnt promise anything, nothing really wrong there either, many payers say "I'm <insert team colour here> through and through, I'll never leave, this is my club" or kiss there badge and the next minute they are gone, would you rather he was like that?? Someone please explain this 'bigger than the club' idea and why Ronaldo is like that.
Red Dawn, the problem is not about selling Ronaldo but it is about keeping our club power. If we sell Ronaldo this season Real Madrid will be the winner as for the 1st time we ll be selling a player although we did not want to sell him in the 1st place. As Fergie when players like beckam,Ruud,Heinze went we were willing to sell them.
Ronaldo just wants another improved deal but Evra will be far the most important priority of the summer as CR still has 4 years to go in his contract and we dont have to sell him if we want.
Next season i ll be happy if we take 150 to 200 million for him.
An open letter to Ronaldo.
Dear Ronaldo,
At the outset, let me extend my deep gratitude on your outstanding service thus far to MUFC. The moments of sheer brilliance over the last few seasons are countless. You have, thus far, succeeded when everyone doubted you. You are a resilient fighter. You have wuthered numerous storms recently. You are an an unbelievable talent and you deserve all the credit in the world. So, I would like to reiterate MUFC's debt to you.
Speaking of debt, Ronaldo, and I know very well you might agree with what I'm about to say, I think you also should be indebted whole heartdly to many a factor during your development as a professional football player at Old Trafford.
Firstly to MUFC. Yes, to the club that bought you when you were a young boy and nurtured you to what you are today. The club gave you your status today. Lets be honest, Ronaldo, if you were still at Sporting Lisbon, I really cannot invasige your stature today as it is now. Now, you still might have been able to be the outstanding player you are at another big club, but honestly I cannot see another setting capable enough to make you the best player in the world in the span of four years.
Secondly, to Sir Alex Ferguson. The man who single handedly protected you and defended you when you were public enemy number one as a result of Wayne Rooney's sending off at the last World Cup. He picked you up when you most needed it. Sir Alex was so aware of the amount of heat he was going to recieve as a result of that, but instead he faced up to this challenge and embraced you. Now that, Ronaldo, is one hell of a debt.
Thirdly, to the supporters of this great club. You probably realise by now that you are fast becoming a legend with the fans at the mere age of 23. An incredible feat that only a hand full of stars have succeeded in attaining. And believe you me, Ronaldo, this is not something easy to attain.
Fourthly, to your fellow players. Never forget, nor deny, the tremendous amount of support every single player gave you. You would have never become the player you are today without your collegues on and off the pitch.
The list goes on and on Ronaldo. One thing is certain though and that is no one knows what the future holds, as you rightly said in many ocassions when asked about your possible transfer to Real Madrid. So, if you ever decide to go, Ronaldo, I hope from the bottom of my heart that you keep these few humble thoughts in your mind and heart too.
Ronaldo, I thought very hard on how to sum up this letter to you. I have squeezed every brain cell in that process. It took me at least two MINUTES. So instead of wishing you well at a new club if you ever decide to move on, I am going to end with this:
Beckham, RVN, Heinze, are not missed at all.
Goodluck.
Sincerely,
One hell of a devoted Manchester United Football Club fan.
