Barely 24 hours after the first team had retained the Premier League title at Wigan it was over to the reserves to grab the silverware with a record 28th Senior Cup triumph.
Both sides placed the emphasis firmly on attack, but it was Wanderers who carried the greater threat with Temitope Obadeyi and skipper Jaroslaw Fojut both going close in the opening ten minutes.
The game's attacking theme continued after the break, but neither side were having much luck in front of goal until the 79th minute when Danny Welbeck slid the ball home past Brocklehurst after beating Wanderers defence to Michael Barnes' right wing cross.
Wanderers almost claimed a late equaliser following an almighty scramble in the United goalmouth when the ball was twice cleared from the line. The resulting over-zealous appeals from the Wanderers' players led to Rob Sissons being sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Brazilian youngster Rodrigo Possebon sealed United's victory in the last minute with well struck drive at the Stretford End.

We could have a top midfielder on our hands here.

But Eagles? well well well..

Eagles says United is his club and believes he is good enough to break into the first team, hence him still hanging around.
He is getting on it years now, so this coming season will be massive for him.
He has great potential, and looks a top class in the reserves, but when he steps into the first team it just seems a step too far for him, like a boy amongst men so to speak.

also i have to praise young Richard Eckersley, a real tough defender, he played well!
