However, he has resisted the temptation to take his vibrant squad down memory lane as he returned to the city which hosted a never-to-be-forgotten Champions League final.
Nine years ago Ferguson's side recorded an astonishing last-gasp victory against Bayern Munich thanks to goals from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Teddy Sheringham to lift the trophy.
On Wednesday they return to the Nou Camp for the first time since that memorable night.
This time Barcelona provide the opposition in the semi-final first leg of Europe's top club competition.
"It is almost 10 years since we won the final," said the United boss.
"The team of today do not need to worry about the past and be reminded of the past.
"They have seen the game many times on video and television, so I do not think it is lost on any of them.
"What is more important is that they can shape their own history. I think they are good enough to do that."
United went out at the semi-final stage to AC Milan last season but Ferguson insists they are much better equipped to go the distance this time around.
The likes of Owen Hargreaves and Carlos Tevez arrived in the summer along with outstanding prospects Nani and Anderson to boost the playing pool.
Stronger
With 38-goal Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney showing remarkable maturity this season, United have good reason to go forward with confidence.
Ferguson said: "We are in a much stronger position this year in terms of the energy of the team, not to mention the ability in it.
"Last season we played much the same team every week because of injuries.
"Now we have bigger squad, you can see the difference and how it has helped us."
United were involved in two enthralling games against Barcelona in the group stages on the way to beating Bayern - both ending in 3-3.
Ferguson expects a similar feast of football.
He said: "Looking back it could have been more than 3-3, especially at the Nou Camp.
"There were periods where I thought we could lose by 10, then other periods I thought we could win by 10.
Demonstration
"It was a marvellous open game and demonstration of how both clubs believe the game should be played.
"United and Barcelona remain well balanced teams in terms of history and the way they play."
Barcelona are trailing Real Madrid and Villarreal in La Liga but Ferguson is not under-estimating the opposition and claims the match would a worthy final.
He said: " I do not see that we should be favourites. It is a very balanced game if you look at the number of quality players on both sides.
"Manchester United and Barcelona must be among the strongest sides in Europe as they have come to this stage of the competition.
"Both clubs deserve to be there and this match would be an attractive final, a fantastic occasion.
"I believe the winners of this game have a great chance in the final."
There were fears for Rooney's fitness after he came off in the second half against Blackburn at the weekend.
But they have proved to be unfounded.
"Wayne took a knock on the hip but it will not stop him from playing," said Ferguson.
What do you think? Have your say.

i am a true united fan but the truth is the team does loose it's bottle some times.
roony and ronaldo are yet to prove there class in big games. more ronaldo.
roony scored twice aganist milain wheres ronaldo spent most of his time trying to run away from Gettuso last year.
roony can not be faulted for belief in big games however his ability that we know he has leaves him and he becomes wild roony(utue).
i remeber the FA cup final last year roony played well then where was ronaldo.
against chelsa last season where was ronaldo this season . aganist aresenal where was ronaldo.
alot was made of roma last year i loved it. i was not surprised because seria has become very poor and the pace of the team last year was incredilbe and repersented what the prem is about,so aganist milain i let the press take me to a dream world where united were galaticos than united started talking about kaka . it then dawn on me that they would bottle it. in 2000 united did not bottle it aganist bayen the following they did,nt. in 2002 united won the league so did madrid win la liga however which team knocked them out it was juv the team we had battered twice in a the group stages. so what happen?
i don,t think we have botttled it every time we get knock out ,just out played.
in defence of united the program english teams have is much more gruling than any other forgain teams mybe this plays a part any way i have stared talking rubish

We have been stuttering off late , arsenal deserved a draw and only two late goals have saved our position, though we could have been another 4pts clear, going into the chelsea game on saturday we should hope we dont pick up anymore injuries.

The news coming out from Barca is that we ll play our 3 mobile CM in Carrick,OH and Anderson with Nani,Tevez and Fletcher coming on to give us extra energy depending on the situation.

.... Make history!... You know; be the best or the first at something that kind of thing!
... Or like City made history by scoring the least goals EVER at home in the top flight!
Get it now?

It was one year after the ban was lifted and also at the first opportunity that they could achieve it.
Now go away and dust the empty shelves on your useless trophy cabinet!

Your knowledge of football is a joke. In fact it's as bad as your maths!
Now stick with me on this one, I know it may be a little difficult for you to understand but I'm sure you'll get there in the end.
The Ban on English Clubs in Europe took place in 1985
Sir Alex Ferguson joined Manchester United in 1986
The ban was lifted in the 1990/91 season.
Are you still with me here?
Manchester United won the F.A. Cup in 1990, therefore making them eligible to compete in Europe in the following season, which just happens to be the SAME YEAR THAT THE BAN WAS LIFTED!
Therefore at the first attempt of being back in Europe Manchester United made History!
Check the Records/History books if you don't beleive me!
As for our poor record in Europe, I've got two things to say to you.
1)At least we've got a record in Europe and
2)If Manchester United and Manchester City were the only two English teams ever to play in Europe, our poor record in Europe would STILL BE SECOND TO YOURS!
Who's the Thicket now?
Mr C., Chorlton, Manchester. (23/04/2008 at 12:47)
United would have been in the UEFA CUP-winners cup in 1986 if it hadn't been for the English ban. Now go and fill one of those empty blue seats!

Your question and I quote -
" Mr C Chorlton-how long did it take fergie to get united into Europe?Making History!!!!!!

If you want a direct answer, then it is 1 year.
Why? Because you can't enter a competition if you are BANNED from it.
Now here is a challenge for you!
Make your own history by leaving the Manchester United page and heading back to Manchester City's!
At least you can then leave with only a little bit of egg on your face but still have some pride. As for your comments... well, we'll just confine them to history shall we?
