Ahead of the Old Trafford showdown, Fergie insisted he was more worried about last week's clash with Middlesbrough than the visit of the Gunners on Sunday.
United saw their lead at the top of the table cut to just three points following their 2-2 draw at the Riverside.
And Ferguson is convinced neither Arsenal or Chelsea - who his side meet on April 26 - will provide a sterner test than Gareth Southgate's men.
"I always viewed the Middlesbrough match as our most difficult game," he said. "I wasn't surprised by their performance.
"They could have beaten us, but we managed to rescue a point from it."
Ferguson believes the games against Arsenal and Chelsea will determine the destination of the title.
He knows that victory on Sunday will virtually kill off Wenger's fading hopes of finishing top of the pile, while also maintaining United's slender advantage over Chelsea ahead of their Stamford Bridge clash.
"It is better if you go into the games in decent form and I think our form is decent," he said. "The games against Arsenal and Chelsea are the two big ones. They are fantastic games which all the players look forward to.
"Arsenal have been our main competitors for over 15 years and it is not going to change on Sunday.
"It will be a hard fought match and hopefully we can take the spoils."
United's hopes of success domestically and in Europe have been boosted by the return of Gary Neville and Mikael Silvestre, who both featured against Roma after overcoming long-term injuries.
Silvestre has been out since suffering cruciate knee- ligament damage in September, while Neville came off the bench for his first action in 13 months following ankle and calf problems.
"They give us a little bit of experience at a very important time," said Ferguson.
"Gary has been through a hard time of it with small injuries persistently derailing him.
"But in the last six weeks to two months he has been through a programme that ensured he would train in all the sessions and play in reserve games. Now, hopefully, we can get him in the team soon."
What team would you send out against Arsenal? Have your say.

We well and truly turned them over in the cup, but to hear the BBC commentary and after match comments on MOTD you would never know. It was all about Arsenal not turning up...not how well we played.
And once again we will no doubt be treated to Wenger's short sighted spin and touchline tantrums. Anyone see him sitting down and stamping his feet Tuesday night? Priceless.
And in the post match interview I thought he was actually going to shape shift into one of David Ickes reptilian forms.
Funny how a guy who NEVER sees ANY incident involving one of his players or the 72 red cards they have received suddenly had such a clear unobstructed view.
Very selective in what he see's and always a reason why his team "unfairly" lost but never that they were just second best on the day. Gracious is not a word he seems familiar with or an attitude he seems capable of displaying.
His team of so called "kids" mirror his petulance in their own immature responses to any decision against them or any defeat.
Nevertheless, unlimited adulation continues to be heaped upon them by adoring BBC pundits and the London based press alike, thus breathing more stale life into the marbled halls myth of Old Highbury.
The commentator on their match Tuesday night actually uttered the words " They can make passes no other team can make." Unbelievable! They only have to run onto the pitch for some paid observers to become virtually orgasmic.
Roll on Sunday, and as the iconic boxing referee Mills Lane used to say to the two protagonists in front of him...."Lets get it on"

With Scholes on the Bench in midweek fully expect him to beplaying and whilst i've been a amjor critic i think that hewill be thereon merit and because of his experience!! But we needmore speed in midfield ifCarrick and Scholesplays so we need Anderson, Hargreaves or Nani rather than Giggs!!
If JSPark could improve his first touch i would rather have him as i think his runs and energy and defensive play are tremendous, its just his 1st touch can be so poor so often!! Brilliant attitude and energy thou- thinks hes great squad player!!

Back 5 as usual with Pique in for Vidic, midfield of Scholes Carrick and Hargreaves.
I think Hargreaves has to play after his performance in Rome, which may mean Anderson is sacrificed, but hes played so well against Arsenal, that i wouldnt mind him in place of Pique with Brown going inside, as he has proved his crossing is very good.
Would be abit unfortunate on Pique as he has played well in the last couple of games so thats a big decison for Fergie.
Then Rooney up top with Nani and Ronaldo out wide, but if Nani is still injured, I would play Park, as we could need him to help track back, especially if Theo plays.
Tevez could be a good impact substitution, or could be a good option from the start, will be interesting to see the line up.
Red Family Man - South Stand Tier 1 (11/04/2008 at 13:58)
Our big players rested, in good form and with plenty of options on the bench.
Arsenal on the other hand look a jaded bunch, not just physically but mentally.
I can actually see us winning by a good few goals on Sunday and I'll be in my usual seat (UNLIKE Wednesday where the powers that be decided to give my seat away to some Champion's League sponsorship flunkie) to cheer the lads on....
I wonder which Arsenal player will be sent off this time? I'm still laughing at the memory of Mascherano's face as he trudged off, right past my seat...Priceless.....
Red Family Man - South Stand Tier 1 (11/04/2008 at 14:36)
After Hargreave's Evra-esque performance at right back on Wednesday, he might be tempted to keep him there and put Wes at CB next to Rio.
Also Anderson is nailed on to start, for me...His performances against Fabregas, Gerrard e.t.c. have been outstanding...
For me : VDS - Evra, Rio, Wes, Hargreaves - Carrick, Scholes, Anderson - Giggs, Wayne, Cristiano.
Bench would be Kit, Nani (if fit, Park if not)), Carlito, Nev and JohnO....
eddy01 (11/04/2008 at 14:41)
He did it in the FA Cup v Arsenal, he did it v Dippers and in the KO rounds of ECL so I expect the same again. Plus, playing Tevez on his own up front on Wednesday was probably an indication he will be on the bench on Sunday.
Scholes was rested in midweek so he is nailed on to start. Think Carrick will start (if fit) and then it is a question of whether OH plays in midfield or ar RB, with GP the possible fall guy for Anderson.
We don't know if Nani is fit so it may well be that Park starts as I doubt SAF wants to start Giggs in 3 matches in 8 days.
I was confident of mullering Arsenal at home last season given repsective teams' form but they won it so I would not get over-confident.

I admire what Wenger has built at Arsenal and I believe his team deserves a trophy but I think he blew it big time when he had a couple of opportunities to win the Carling Cup and fielded his kids - looking back that was a big mistake, especially for the fans.
So, United to finish the Gunners season, sorry Arsene, you can talk it up as much as you want but you conceded four on Tuesday and
I think it's about to happen again.

Gary Nevs may even get a start today, but I think that for these matchres he should leave the defence as undisturbed as possible!
Still rather Nevs than JO'S (too timid!) - with Wes for Pique (struggles for pace!).
Pleas fergoz let;'s not be too cautious, they are wounded but we should finish them!!
Allez les Rouges!!

So I don't go with that!
No, lÁrsce have to be credited with a great, famous win but like after our Roma pulverising in the qtrs, they hid also after that!!
As long as we don't show them too much respect we should win!!
Allez les Reds!!
