Rumour mill: Saha in shop window

UNITED have been sounding out clubs who might be interested in signing striker Louis Saha, according to a report.

Despite showing signs of his best form in last season's title-winning season, the Frenchman has scored just four goals so far this term as his old injury jinx has struck.

The Daily Mail have reported that the Reds could be ready to sell, with speculation over a summer swoop for Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov rumbling on.

Not before time IMHO. A good striker when fit (I have never thought he was exceptional) but just cant be relied upon which must make planning for the season very difficult. We will only have one striker for the derby, is that really acceptable?

For all this talk of cover its only Ronny banging the goals in regularly, god forbid he should get injured because that could derail our entire season.

l have been trying defending Saha for the past 24months to my friends and other fans about him coming good,but l am now tired,frustrated and bored about his fitness.A fit Saha would have played in the games we lost and covered for poor Rooney just like last season's first half,SOS open the window and give him to Sunderland and get Kenywne Jones

An ill-health retirement would be best for all concerned. The insurance pay-out could be split between club and player, the whole embarrassing saga would come to an end and Saha would avoid jeopardising his frail long term health by getting out of professional sport while he can still walk.

he certainly aint contributing much to the team thats for sure! even if we just got rid of him for nothing we would be better off as we wouldnt be paying him money to sit on the treatment table!

alias dont want you to actually criticise fergie, but dont you think the patience that has been shown to this guy is now bordering on the ridiculous. rvn and rossi have both been forced to leave whilst he chose to keep the long time crock

I think if one thing costs us the title this year, it will be that we didnt bring in another striker to replace saha.
We have the best shots on target out of any team. but our shots to goals isnt that great as we dont have an out and out striker. if we get a long term injury to either ronaldo or rooney again we will be in trouble.
berbatov is to similiar to rooneya nd tevez, we need someone who is an out and out goal scorer. so i`ld go for benzema or huuntler, maybe even abanghlaor at a long shot.

bobbyd, I did type a lengthy & eloquent response but had one of those horrible moments when you press submit and it crashes! So here are the main points in brief.

1) RvN sale - good thing for the club.

2) Rossi sale - bad thing for the club but he wanted to go.

3) SAF can be criticised for buying Saha and sticking with him. Though mostly only with hindsight.

4) Do you think we should have sold Saha earlier? If so, who would buy him when injured?

5) Do you really think cash was available for another class striker in the summer after the arrival of OH, Nani, Anderson and Tevez?

6) Who could we have bought in January that was not CL and FA Cup-tied?

chris is right that we will suffer badly if Ronaldo is injured but that will always be the case because we can never have a back-up of anything like his quality.

I would love to know if the rumour of the 7m bid from Bolton for Saha was true or not, if so then that would have been excellent business taking age, injury record etc, into account.

Yes, in the absence of the perennially injured Saha, we are over dependant on Ronaldo ( and Rooney ).
To think Alias and others would have had him out of the club 18 short months ago!

you have been telling us since the season began that we have the right options in the scoring department and we can cope with injuries. when in reality we now only have 2 players what you can loosely describe as strikers.
ronaldo has hit another purple patch and just where would we be without him.
because one things for sure
saha has been injured contsantly since he was signed in january 2004 and its saf.s reliance on having him available to play that leaves us so vunerable. he has spent largre parts of every season on the treatment table and sacrificing rvn and rossi was just plain foolish. whatever spin you put on it saha.s signing has been a bloody disaster.

I would disagree that rvn leaving was a good thing. in fact the way it was handled cost the club several million pounds because in effect we gave him away for much less than he was worth.

rossi was sent out last year whilst saf relied on a player who hardly ever plays saha. and another who had missed the best part of 3 years out injured in ole.

he must have also noticed that in recent years fergie often playing giggs in the role you would have expected rossi to fill and doing a bloody bad job of it to boot.

you wont admit it but rvn was sold so we could buy carrick because we have never had the money promised from the gimps.

bobbyd, I stand by my opinion that we should have enough options up front in Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez. Perhaps you could let us know what you think SAF should have done - unless you think anything I've said in my previous response is untrue, wouldn't you say his hands were fairly tied?

LOL Steve, I KNEW you'd poke your head up at that point, given that it's been you spreading the lie that I wanted Ronaldo out!

I was in fact on the first day of a holiday in Cyprus on the day of the infamous incident between him and Rooney and missed all the kefuffle in the media and on here.

BD Fergie relied on Saha and Ole because he new they would be key to the season.

I mean didnt Ole score 11 goals and Saha play a key part in us winning the league?

Ruud goin was definetly a good thing but agree wasnt handled well. We play alot better football with Tevez and Rooney while Ronaldo has been outstanding.

I think all our CMs will chip in but am stuggling with my best 2.

Maybe there wont be and different games will require their different attributes, but wouldnt a settled pair benefit the team more?

I am sure SAF will make the right decisions and I think we have a large amount of attacking players to cover, albeit mainly from midfield.

I would luv it, absolutely luv it if Danny Wellbeck had to come in and scored a winning goal!

hold on bobbyd, are you seriously suggesting we should have kept RvN? The guy was a legend for us but we are scoring more goals and playing much better football since he left. Plus, as I see it, either he or Ronaldo had to leave and SAF made the right choice there! You have a point on the amount we got for him but that's a different issue.

I've not heard the theory that he was sold so we could buy Carrick. Well, even if that's the case, we won the league so it's hard to be too critical...

I wouldn't want to sell Saha yet. I'm still holding out for him to have a spell of fitness. I do rate him very highly when fit. I know this will raise a few "if fit" comments (please save your breath - fingers - I've heard them all) but I would still like to wait until he recovers regardless.

alias you are very very selective at times.

where exactly does saha come in your equation ?? it seems that you now have written him off.

with only having the 3 options they are playing more games than is good for them and there is a chance that we will repeat last seasons back end when they were completley knackered.

ronaldo is best having a completley free role because in all truth he is not really a winger in the conventional sense.

are you really happy to see ryan playing centrally because if you were honest you would admit he is not doing the buisness when played there.

there are very very few goals coming from midfield so if ronaldo gets injured or dries up who is going to score??

I find it strange that people are screaming Saha out because of the fact that he dares to have an injury jinx (Lets hang, draw and quarter him) and then in the same breath say "We can't wait for Gary Neville to come back!!!"
