Saha insists he is overcoming his nagging injury problems and can play an important role in the rest of the season.
The French striker has started only eight games this season but did score twice in the 4-0 win over Sunderland on Boxing Day.
He told United Review: "I know I can do better, and hopefully I showed that against Sunderland. The manager has always shown a lot of faith in me and that gives me a lot of confidence.
"I'm definitely getting there (overcoming injuries). I played two full games in a row over Christmas and that was the first time I'd done that for a while.
"So things are improving and I'm looking to play even more. My target now is to stay fit and keep finding the back of the net.
"I'm a striker and that's my job and now I want to concentrate on scoring more goals for the team.
"I'm very hard on myself and always want to do better, so I'm not very satisfied with how the season has gone so far on a personal level."
Saha hopes to be in contention for United's trip to Reading on Saturday but Gary Neville is unlikely to figure despite being back in training.
The England full-back needs more time in reserve games under his belt before he returns.
Paul Scholes is also still out but Owen Hargreaves should be available again after missing the Newcastle game with bruised ribs, and Wes Brown is back from suspension.

I've always appreciated Saha, as when fully fit he is a top, top striker. But it's been one year since he's played anywhere near his ability, and all because of nigling injuries, it's not like he did his cruciate or broke any bones. We can't keep sticking with him beyond the summer I'm afraid.
Does anyone else think that the men is being very delibarate in there recent discussion topics to gain lots of hits, example saha claiming he will come back and repay fergie for his patience which followed are carrick and fletcher any good.
When was that written?
Fergie said at the weekend that Saha was gonna miss "a few games". Has that situation changed?
no
Where dont we just get rid?
Sell Sell now and cash in ,id go for benzema or huntlear or klose or team make podolski ,even lahm as back cover sell sell now.
Here we go again, I think you are right Edinburg Red!
You do have to laugh though:
"I'm definitely getting there (overcoming injuries). I played two full games in a row".
Two full games eh? Wow.
i will be unhappy to see him go. hes a great striker and has scored some vital goals this season believe it or not.
YOU'D BE LUCKY TO GET RID OF HIM ON A FREE WITH HIS INJURY RECORD.THE BEST HOPE IS OF A PART EX IF THEY SEE SOMEONE THEY WANT TO BUY IN FRANCE AND THE FRENCH ARE WILLING TO TAKE A HUGE RISK AND SAHA A MASSIVE PAYCUT.
Louis Saha is a good player but hes always injured, think we will keep him for the rest of this season but i wouldnt be suprised if he goes in the berba deal in the summer, the worst kept secret down here in London is that berbatov is going to United in the summer.
Louis will stay until the end of the season when I can see Fergie looking elsewhere.
Chris - Get real, its one thing to complain about a player's injuries, but one another to do it blinkers on again and again. Players unfortunately get bad injury spells, and we all know when you have a long term injury there is an increased likelihood of suffering others. Look at Michael Owen, John Terry, Van Persie, Samuel Et'oo up till recently, Paul Scholes, and closest to home, our Captain, Gary Neville, who's been missing for over a year!.... Its all part of football. While you might question his aggression and lack of 100% commitment - If you had missed almost an entire year through injury, surely you would try and be careful, to ensure u minimise risk. Criticise him once, twice, but don't go on about it forever. This article was just a space filler, treat it as such.
joey, spot on.
give the guy a break
DC, I think you're right. Best scenario is that he gets fit for a good run of games and goals towards the end of the season, thus generating some sort of transfer fee in the summer.
Like you, I am a big fan of a fit and firing Saha (wasn't he superb first half of last season?) but I imagine Fergie will have lost faith that he can ever be relied upon as a regular and will look to bring in a replacement in the summer.
Shame though.
It made me laugh Joey, aren't I allowed to comment? As for missing the best part of a year; he has missed the best part of four years!
That Nobby Styles was a hell of a player....just think, and him with no teeth as well.
Sorry to hear you broke your caps lock, Bernie.
ER I think you are referring to the realist. Realistic enough to no Saha will not be around for the whole season and probably wont buy a new forward till the summer.
We therfore realise that although Saha has a very bad injury record, he has often scored crucial goals when fit so would rather get behind him when he is fit!
Also realistic enough to realise that his injury record is so poor that we cannot rely on him for the whole season so can see him being sold in the summer.
I feel sorry for him that he has never had a full season to show the talent he has shown he has.
Saha's past it and far too injury prone. We should sign Michael Owen for around 5-7 million. I know he's injuries have slowed him down a little, but he can score! The other options we could use is a straight swop for Marcus Bent - he's on fire at the moment.
Of course you are Chris lol If there was no debate here it would be a quilting society blog.......
How many times have we heard this exact rubbish this season alone? Every time he is in the starting line up I cringe. He's not a bad player (or at least he demonstrated that prior to coming to United) but once he gets on pitch for us he turns into rubbish. Two goals against Sunderland on Boxing day is not in any way remarkable, and certainly doesn't give us any indication of any progress being made towrds becoming a United class player.
With Roo and Tevez in top form and Ronny belting them in, Fergie will probably give Louis all the time in the world. Hope that he is good for the run in then au revoir in July. As long as we get the golden trio rested now and again, Fergie will figure we are ok. Now the right back spot. Maybe he is giving Nev lots of time to get fully fit.
Agreed Alias, first half of last season I thought he was our best player, above Ronaldo even. And I was one of the ones questioning the selling of Ruud without signing a replacement. For Saha to come into the team then, and perform as he did, was sensational.
However, somehow he has always struck me as unsure of himself. Like he's not 100% sure he's good enough to play for united. Maybe he just doesn't have the temperament to lead the line at a club like united? It's a terrible shame, because on his day I'd take him over most strikers in the world. But like we've all said, I don't think we're likely to see Saha 'on his day' many more times, if at all.
I do really hope if he moves on that he can resurrect his career though.
BTW did anyone read what that disgusting mouthpiece Mijatovic said about Ronaldo? That Real will always try to sign him??? That is exactly why they are a repulsive club, it's like us saying we will never stop trying to sign Gerrard, or Vieira when he was at Arsenal. All their tactics are to unsettle the player until he gives in. What a disgusting bunch of *****s.
And besides, why would Ronaldo go there? I watched them against Mallorca the other night on the box, and granted they had rested Raul, Ruud, Robinho and Sneijder (who??? exactly). But they brought them all on (apart from Raul) and they were still atrocious. Ponderous on the ball, clueless, no real rhythm to their play. And with sterling players such as Gago, Higuain, Saviola, Robben (who sits in the stands only), Sneijder, Baptista, and Drenthe. And Guti pulling the strings, the same Guti who couldn't get near the team a few years ago. It's like us starring with Fletch and Richardson in the middle in 3 years. They may be top of la liga, but that may be more an indictment of la liga than anything else.
I wish Saha the best of luck, but at this point, i'd settle for possession trail rather than goal trail. Poor Louis hasn't even been able to keep possession in recent games, let alone look anywhere close to scoring. Please prove me shortsighted, Louis.
