Fergie hails 'refreshing' Rooney

Sir Alex Ferguson and Wayne Rooney
SIR Alex Ferguson has given an insight into how much Wayne Rooney loves his football - and Manchester United in particular.

The England striker, who should return to the side against Aston Villa in the FA Cup after he was laid low by a virus, has indicated he would be keen to see out his career at Old Trafford.

The former Everton star was forced to skip the narrow victory over Birmingham in midweek but has now returned to training.

United boss Ferguson, who will make a late decision, has nothing but praise for Rooney.

"Wayne is at the right club," he said. "He has been fantastic since he joined us. His enthusiasm is a breath of fresh air. He is the first player in the training ground every morning.

"Sometimes he has breakfast with the staff and asks a million questions. He doesn't get a million answers but Wayne is refreshing.

"I just have to make a decision as to how well he has recovered from the virus. He trained this morning and that is a big boost for us."

Carlos Tevez is doubtful with an ankle injury but goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar will return after recovering from a groin problem.

Ferguson, whose side lost to Chelsea in the first FA Cup final at the new Wembley last year, insists the competition is important to the club.

They have won it five times under the Scot and 11 times overall.

Experience

"We have the best record in the competition so it means a lot to us, " he said. "It is a massive experience even if you lose in the final like we did.

"The question is where your priorities lie. Is it the Champions League, the Premier League or the FA Cup?

"The FA Cup has to be our priority because our next game is in the competition."

Ferguson is relishing the challenge of facing Villa after knocking them out last season. In fact they have almost become fated to meet in England's top knockout competition.

Ferguson said: "Being drawn together four times in seven years is a bit curious.

"When I saw their name come out, I feared the worst. It is a difficult draw and a massive game for us.

"Villa's form and our own form point to a really good Cup tie. Hopefully we can get through it.

"We enjoy going to the ground and perhaps we can recapture the atmosphere of the semi-finals we have played there.

"Villa Park has got a real football feel to it. The pitch is great as well."

Ferguson was critical of the supporters during the home match against Birmingham, claiming the atmosphere was flat.

Over 7,000 fans are expected to travel to Villa Park and he added: "That is fantastic.

"The supporters had a bad day against Birmingham. We want to see them excited.

"But they have been responsible for a lot of our success. When the chips are down they are always there for us."

Great joke that council house one. I crack a rib everytime one of you (the swamp is owned by american bankers) tell it! I might add that all you muppets who do come out with it, actually live in council owned houses! I did actually hear that FC United want him (Shrek) and are willing to pay 35 for him, maybe you could splash out on Berbatov then? Oh, wait a minute, my sources tell me Spurs want it in millions not pounds! ha ha ha ha ha ha!

If you ask me Wayne's passion and love for the game is one of the reason's M.E.N's ratings are always slightly biased. And saying he wants to stay at United his whole career doesn't hurt either. You'll always see the passionate/triers as fan favourites Keane,Vidic,Tevez and even Anderson (not old enough 2have seen Cantona,Bruce,Hughes etc).I just think if the boy wonder has an undisrupted season he may well score 25 in the premiership alone. No doubt about that

An hillarious reminder to the city fans who keep commenting on the debt we have, perhaps you can remind us how much we spent in the summer? quite a fair bit as I recall, how can we afford this despite being in so much debt? well that's simple, we're better than you, we have a bigger fan base than you and more people want to watch us than you. just keep it in your tiny brains, no dodgy thai owner, no money, and remember where you were. that is all

I dont know why nobody has mentioned or taken notice of this...but Benzema(lyon) seem to be a young and talented sriker who seems to play with the same strenght and passion that Rooney displays everytime he runs out unto the pitch. I personally wont mind having two Wayne Rooneys on my team and I think Benzema is just that.

Ama4ManU you are right on Benzema, I have been saying it for months. He is a very strong 20 year old, he has been playing for 3 seasons and he controls games now! He is the one person i want us to sign, you can keep you're Berbatov's and Anelka's, this guy will be one of the best players on the planet within 3 years. Sign him now....PLEASE!
