SIR Alex Ferguson insisted that it was all about the result rather than the performance as United ground out an Anfield victory.
Ferguson conceded his side had not displayed their usual attacking flair but believes such a hotly-anticipated fixture is more about winning than turning on the style.
"It was a typical United v Liverpool game. The crowd creates such a noise it is difficult for the referee," he said.
"It's not about playing flowing football, it's about winning the game.
"I said before the game that the games between the top sides will be important so it's great for us."
And while Ferguson does not expect the title to be decided just yet, he believes if the Reds can start 2008 close to the summit, they could retain their Premier League title.
"It's going to be a long struggle and fight throughout the season, but if we get to New Year's Day top or around there, we have an outstanding chance of staying there."

6 points at the moment but it will be much more at the end of the season.
And in answer to the other Bitter, Fergie actually congratulated Citeh after the win so what more do you want?
The undeniable fact was that we wasted loads of chances at Wastelands so why shouldn't he say that?
Anyway, it's nice that you Bitters continue to show more interest in the Reds than your own rabble.

Great win today though - my nerves are shot after all their posession. When will Ronnie learn that when he's double/triple marked he needs to attract them to him and then release the ball to others who should have more space?

Actually I'm glad there are two teams raising Manchester's name in the table this year. Usually it's just us while City are taking their usual tour of the League's variety of divisions.

If you are going to write on the Red's site please be honest. What's all this crap about United being worth twice what the blues are. You need to be staring at 10 TIMES, or stay stum.
Tgheere is more to value than just cost.

It only resembled a game of football in the 2nd!
We were functional, with the central midfield very good and the defence - if only for a couple of blips from the lack of communication between vd Sar and the cemtral two!
They played with enough passion and maybe were feeling their Marseille stunt!
It didn't live up to a proper them and us game!
CR & Roo poor, Cr espcially -again missing in a big game!
Thanks for Anderson!
Up The Reds
