Rio hails 'fortunate' winner

RIO Ferdinand admitted Carlos Tevez's winner was "a bit fortunate" but was nevertheless delighted after United edged rivals Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield.

Carlos Tevez's first-half goal, sweeping home a scuffed Wayne Rooney shot, was enough to see Sir Alex Ferguson's side win and take three points.

And Ferdinand said: "Anfield is a hard place to come, they defend very well and there is pressure all over the park. Today we dealt with everything they threw at us and got the goal.

"They are a very good side. One moment of brilliance, Wazza's shot deflecting to Carlos - well it was a bit fortunate, but we'll take that.

"The whole team defended, closed them down, and everything they did get into the box we dealt with.

"I think you can tell from the reaction of the lads after, and the fans, it's a great feeling to come to Anfield and win."

Defensively united were very2 good, (VDS apart ).

gd win but poor performance i would say we made cheap mistakes invited far to much persure on are selfs but we still won thats the main thing and we go top for a few hours depeding on the arsenal game, if we do what we did today in the latter stages of the champions league we will get hammerd

Not a "lucky" winner. A poorly defended corner. Liverpool had all 11 men in the area, and no one watching Rooney. Not all goals are scored from fantastic play. Some are scored from mistakes. Liverpool made one, and we won the game. Thats not luck Rio, thats Liverpool not being good enough to concentrate and snuff us out for 90 minutes. We had 2 real chances, Tevez scored one and Rooney missed one. If you convert 50% of your chances, you will win nearly every game. Liverpool had lots more shots and chances, and converted NONE. Like I said, it's not luck, it's called football.

To be honest the only clear cut chance Liverpool had were the two that Van der Saar handed to Liverpool on a plate. Anything else was a half chance at best. I agree with the Rio for captain shout but then I have been banging that drum for a couple of years. He probably would have been captain by now if not for the drug test ban and the media blowing up his contract negotiation.

Thought we did just give the ball back to them a lot of the times. A lot of long high ball played in the first half up to our relativley small front men which baffled me. Still when we got the ball on the deck we looked a far better footballing side. Everything I have ever said about Steven Gerrard was summed up yesterday. He should have been sent off after 5 minutes and might as well have been as he was pocketed by a 19 year old. The most overrated player ever to play the game and believe all his own hype! CHAMPIONS!!!!

khalid it was a set play and not scruffy at all.
if rooney's shot didnt go in carlito certainly made a big hole and no miss.
