Vidic and Rio on same wavelength

NEMANJA Vidic has revealed he shares an almost telepathic on-field relationship witH United defensive partner Rio Ferdinand.

The duo starred in yet another clean sheet performance on Tuesday as the Red Devils held off AS Roma thanks to Wayne Rooney's clinical late effort.

Aside from the Carling Cup debacle against Coventry, when neither Vidic nor Ferdinand were even on the bench, it is now virtually 11 hours since United last conceded.

Vidic's partnership with Ferdinand has plenty to do with that.

At times the duo are so effective, Sir Alex Ferguson has likened them to Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister, who provided the bedrock for United's early title successes in the 1990s.

And Vidic confirmed how easy it is for him alongside the England international.

"Rio is a great player and I am really glad to be in the same defence as him," said the Serbia star.

"We know each other really well. We know where each other are on the pitch and we know what movements the other one is going to make. That has to be important and so far things have gone really well.

"There are so many great players up front for us, if we keep a clean sheet we feel someone will score in the end and I am pretty proud our record is so good."

Yes they are better. both versions of the same players but both are of a higher qaulity than there predecessor

I agree with Lee, they are both better. With all due respect to Bruce, I can see him struggling in today's scenario due to his lack of pace.
Still you wont find a better defender in set-pieces, though..

Roma came close on a few occasions but the more clean sheets the greater the desire to keep it that way.Schmeichel regarded it as a personal insult if a goal went in against him!
Altho these two are the kingpins of our defence they've been well assisted by a defensive midfield and Evra and Wes.
I doubt if UNITED's defensive record would've been this good had Heinze played.His exit was a good move.

What's really exciting is that, as well as getting more and more used to each other's game, their individual ability is only going to get better and better over the next 2 or 3 seasons, at least.

They are good now, they will be frightening in 2010!

Does that mean when Vidic thinks Ferdinand is going to make a mistake he does and vice versa

Mick thats true, its better they will get (hopefully!). One slight downside though - barring injury it doesnt look as though Evans or Pique will ever get a decent run in the side at centre back

being likened to pally & brucie is pushing it a bit, but these 2 together are a master class. just hope they can keep it going. they keep it out, strikers put them in.

If Rio learned from Vidic with regard to bravery, consistency of performance etc. he too could be a great defender. On his day Rio can be good but too often is caught sleeping and can be bullied by strikers.

quality combo, maybe the odd slip up, mentioning no names (ferdinand) on the whole they are solid. Think it is incredible how much evra has come on as well, him and ron are magical when they work on the left. We need to sort out a permanate replacement for neville though. Any right footed evra's about?

birdy there is a good reason why pique will never get a good run at centre back in that he is considerably slower than larry white but without his vast experience.
