CARLOS Tevez is poised for a United baptism of fire in the Manchester derby.

The Argentine ace's move to Old Trafford is still tied up in red tape as the Premier League scrutinise the details of his transfer from West Ham.

It means a debut in the Reds' opening game of the new Premiership season at reading on Sunday is unlikely.

But he could be pitched into action against City at Eastlands seven days later.

"Sometimes the administration side of things takes longer than you hope for," said United assistant mananger Carlos Queiroz last night.

"He's still a bit light after being involved in Copa America. He had about 15 days without training but he'll get there.

"At the moment, he is working hard on the training ground, so hopefully things will be sorted out soon and he can play his part next week."

Queiroz insists the champions - who fielded teams to beat Glentoran and Dunfirmline in friendlies last night - are ready to hit the ground running this season.

"We are ready," he said. "But everybody is very excited by the challenge and ready to run this race."

Nani produced a goal worthy of his £17m price tag in Ireland - and his banned trademark double somersault celebration.

It was just the kind of acrobatics Sir Alex Ferguson had outlawed during United's recent Far East tour.

"Maybe it would be better not to celebrate like that," said Ferguson's assistant. "He can get injured that way.

"But it is his way to celebrate and we hope he has a lot more moments to celebrate. That is what we expect from him."
