CARLOS Tevez will become a Manchester United player next week after West Ham agreed a £2million settlement for the Argentina striker to leave the club.
Tevez has had a medical at Old Trafford and the paperwork on his signing for United is expected to go through early next week.
Sources close to Tevez’s representative Kia Joorabchian confirmed Tevez passed his medical in Manchester on Friday morning before visiting the club’s training ground to meet his new team-mates and United officials.
Tevez’s signing will not go through before Sunday’s Community Shield game against Chelsea at Wembley - but he will begin training over the weekend in preparation for the start of the new Premier League season.
West Ham said in a statement: “West Ham United can confirm that a settlement has been reached today with the representatives of Carlos Tevez which will allow the player to leave the club.
Settlement
“The settlement ends the current litigation taking place between the respective parties and provides for a £2million fee to be paid to West Ham.
“The agreement confirms that West Ham do have a valid player’s contract with Carlos Tevez and hold the registration of the player. This will be released once the agreed fee has been paid to the club.
“The terms of the settlement are consistent with undertakings given by West Ham United to the Premier League and the rules of The Football Association.”
West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson was relieved the affair has finally been concluded.
He said: “I am obviously pleased that we have finally reached the end of this saga through agreement and common sense.
“All parties involved can now move on and truly focus on the new season.
“I wish Carlos Tevez well for the next stage of his playing career. He is a fine player and I am sure he will be successful wherever he plays football."
Statement
Joorabchian confirmed the agreement reached with West Ham brings to a close the legal proceedings he had set in motion against the club.
A statement, issued on behalf of Joorabchian, MSI Group Limited and Just Sport Inc, said: “We are delighted that a settlement has been reached between all parties to secure Carlos Tevez’s move from West Ham United to Manchester United.
“The agreement brings an end to the legal proceedings started by us against West Ham United in the High Court last week.
“Our primary concern has always been to resolve this issue amicably and to allow Carlos to pursue his ambition to play for Manchester United.
“Carlos is looking forward to being a Manchester United player and his ambition is close to being achieved.
“We would like to thank Manchester United for all their patience and support throughout.”
The Premier League said they were satisfied that West Ham had behaved in line with their undertakings when they terminated the third-part deals with Joorabchian in April.
A statement said: “The Premier League can confirm that its board has received and considered a proposal for the settlement of the dispute between Carlos Tevez and West Ham United.
“The decision of the board, having received leading counsel’s opinion, is that the agreement reached is compliant with the rules of the Premier League and consistent with the undertakings given by West Ham United to the Premier League board at various times since 27th April 2007.
“This will lead to the cancellation of Tevez’s registration, thereby releasing him to join another club in due course.”
What do you think of the move? Have your say.

I think he'll be an outstanding buy and a great player at United. Perhaps he can exorcize the spectre of Veron forever, though Heinze is not doing the Argies any favours at the moment is he?

Right let's get him signed and training ASAP. I expect him to be on the bench against Reading which will boost the team, it'll be interesting to see how quickly Louis recovers with this added competition.
I watched a lot of Argentina in the Copa America and Carlitos was the catalyst to thier scoring rather than the scorer, he was involved in some way in almost all of thier goals and I fully expect him to create bucket loads of chances for Roo, Ron and others.
Come on Carlitos, give us a smile!

On a different note, I think it might just be possible for Darren Fletcher to pass 200 appearances in the shirt this season. The lad certainly deserves it.

The last time I was so excited by a Utd arrival was RvN. This has to be the best summer of signings in years: Tevez for Smith, Hargreaves for Richardson, with the bonus of Nani and Anderson: two of the most promising youngsters in world football.
Sir Alex has been talking about Hargreaves as a coming Utd legend. Well, once this is sorted, Utd will have two. But it is the thought of Rooney and Tevez - what a prospect.

To all those bitters who said we wouldn't get him, just goes to show that they know jack. Tevez, now that's what I call a signing (along with our other 3 summer signings of course)!

taking the mickey out of city's apparent non entity signings is a bit rich when nani and anderson are lesser known and cost you more. dont count yer chickens girls as they could prove an unmitigating flop. youre like a jealous older sister who knows her days are numbered in the glamour stakes. win or lose we are city and enjoy the ride. the glazers want a return on their borrowed investment (and you poor misguided pups are paying for it) and wont stand for under performance so laugh while you still can.
