Reds injuries linger on

SIR ALEX Ferguson has confirmed injured trio Gary Neville, Louis Saha and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will all miss Sunday's Community Shield showdown with Chelsea at Wembley.

The players were absent from United's pre-season tour - Neville with an ankle injury, Saha and Solskjaer because of knee problems.

Ferguson expressed the hope in the Far East that all three might be available this week.

However, not only will they sit out tomorrow's Old Trafford friendly with Serie A title-winners Inter Milan, they will also miss the Chelsea game and, possibly, the Premier League opener with Reading on August 12 as well.

"Those lads are still not ready," said Ferguson.

"I think we are looking at a couple of weeks for the three of them."

New signing Nani is also doubtful for tomorrow's encounter, while Ferguson expects fellow summer buys Owen Hargreaves and Anderson to feature against either Doncaster on Friday or Peterborough 24 hours later.

Saha and Solskjaer being injured is certainly not news. But is anyone else worried about how long Gary Neville has been out?

He missed huge chunks of last season as it is and Wes Brown, for all his qualities, is no full-back. I sure hope Danny Simpson is ready to play a lot of Premiership football!

Imagine our shock saha injured, we all know he is a good player but him and ole cannot be relied on to last a couple of monts injury free never mind a season, yet other posters seem to think we have massive strength in cover upfront to compensate there losses, personally i dont feel that we do.Our front line and neville's position are our weakest and nev is getting very injury prone also.

Salfordite, shame about the captain though. That's bad news. As is Saha's continuing problems. Fully fit, I think he's as good as anyone up-front in the PL. Ole should be taking his UEFA badges... With everyone's grateful memories of 1999.

Yeah Mick the Neville injury is more worrying for me. He was never an injury prone player really, but i guess age is catching up with him. He'd be aswell sitting it out as long as is needed rather than rushing back

As for Saha, i read a quote from SAF last wk when he said Saha thinks he'll be fit for the end of August. Maybe i read too much into it, but "Saha thinks" just seemed to me to be SAF's way of moaning about Saha without explicitly moaning. I'd say he's sick and tired of Saha breaking down

Do Citeh have a web page? They spend so much time on this one that I thought that they couldn't possibly have one of their own. However I suppose it is like their team - an inferior product. (Before anyone comments on my present address I was brought up about 300 yards outside Manchester itself so according to Citeh logic I should support Utd, but it could also be because my father used to take me as a child.)

One for Mick to worry about...story on F365 this afternoon about Rossi's agent claiming he is likely to finalise a move for the player in the next day or two. I hope this is just agent talk or mis-reporting but have to say I'm a bit worried.

Sterling, I think what he actually said was that Rossi's future would be resolved in the next couple of days ("by Wednesday" I read) - which could just as easily mean it will be confirmed he's staying. I certainly hope so.

I saw a quote from SAF saying there's no way he's going to let any of his young stars leave even on loan and he did include Rossi in the list.

A couple of years ago I'd have feared for the worst but now the club seems to be determined on accumulating young talent and not selling.

Tevez will be here, Smith will go, Rossi will stay. It makes so much sense that I can't see it being any other way!

Apologies, Sterling, the article I read said "There are certainly foreign sides in for him, by Wednesday I think the situation will be solved." but I've since read another that is different: "Lots of English and Spanish clubs are on his trail and I am confident of closing a deal as soon as possible - maybe before tomorrow." Hopefully this is hot air. I read that Parma offered 7 million though, which is a lot for a largely untried young player. Fergie made it sound like he and Pique would be staying last week, so this is a bit confusing. I really hope he stays - he'll get his chance this season.

Sadly, I think Rossi's leaving is a (Glazer-imposed condition) of signing Tevez. Given that we've already sold Howard and Richardson, and at least two of Sly, Gaby and Smith will also go, it's puts the lie of our 'big-spending' summer in a proper context. In real terms, given the departures and our massive income differential vis-a-vis other clubs, we've actually spent LESS than the likes of Fulham, Portsmouth and Sunderland. A revolving door to help ease the debt...

It is now confirmed that Rossi is on the way to Villareal. Why are we doing this? Smith to Newcastle, Saha still injured (surprise, surprise) and Ole finished, Tevez may not make it by August 31st. I would rather keep Rossi and dump Smith and Saha.
