Tevez to have medical

CARLOS Tevez is due to undergo a medical in Venezuela later today as Manchester United close in on a deal for the West Ham striker which could eventually be worth in excess of £30million.

If all goes to plan, an announcement that a deal has been agreed between Tevez's adviser Kia Joorabchian and the Barclays Premier League champions could be made later today.

It is understood from sources close to the discussions that Tevez will initially join United on a two-year loan deal with the option of a further three years.

West Ham are believed to be in line for a compensation payment for releasing Tevez's registration to Manchester United.

Tevez is currently in Venezuela on Copa America duty and played in Argentina's win over Paraguay last night.

The plan is for Tevez to join Manchester United on their pre-season tour to American once the Copa America is over.

West Ham are understood to have had first refusal to sign Tevez on a three-year deal for £40million but declined the opportunity and gave Joorabchian written permission to begin negotiations with other clubs three weeks ago.

Two Italian clubs, one of them Serie A champions Inter Milan registered an interest, but Tevez wanted to remain in the Premier League.

Both United and Joorabchian had hoped to keep details of the deal under wraps until next week but Tevez himself let slip that he was bound for Old Trafford.

Manchester United will initially only have to pay a loan fee to Joorabchian plus wages reported to be among the highest at Old Trafford.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had been interested in signing Tevez after the 2006 World Cup but was put off by the terms of the deal on offer.

Tevez signed for West Ham on transfer deadline day last August and his goals - including one against United at Old Trafford on the final day of the season - were vital in the Hammers' successful battle against relegation.

Seriously though, United and Barca are poles apart from the rest now. The other clubs need to do something very quick between now and the end of August.

Truly, the CL final is going to be Barca and Man U, dpending on how we are put in the knockout round if this deal goes down. But don't get too optimistic because we could always be let down and finish third in the prem, lost in quarters of the carling and FA cups, and get knocked out in the groupstage of the CL. Great news! Of course it would be great to be debt free but the club can operate much more freely now that it is private.

a few seasons ago l thought chelsea would dominate premier soccer for years..especially with the glazers buying control of manchester united and all the glazer`s debt in purchsing this club..l just thought little transfer monies would be available for many seasons to come...however it seemed l under-estimated the glazers desire to continue to keep united one of the (best) biggest clubs in europe..what a wonderful surprise to see the monies out for hargreaves and nani and anderson and now (hopefully) tevez..this cash flow has enabled united to buy not one or two class soccer players but FOUR world class players even though it might take nani and anderson a season to be climitised to the premier league..united at this point appear to have the best world class squad of players in the world..a mixture of experience and youth..and this team should be very competitive and dominent for seasons to come..my respect and thank you to malcolm glazer and sons.. and especially to sir.alex for purchasing the very best players available in todays transfer market..it appears we have players and subs for all positions for the coming season..waiting with excitement for august 11 kick-off..go united !!

First things first; Tevez is not the tallest lad around, and certainly not considered an aerial threat. Many debate that he's too similar to Rooney in his style of play... but really, with that much attacking knowhow fielded at once, we should be able to break down most defences regardless.

Now, read and picture the following players: Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Saha, Rossi, Smith, Solskjaer, Dong, Anderson, Nani, Giggs, Park and so on...

Our attacking options are endless, and most of our players have both pace and skill. Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez are all world class, and Anderson, Rossi and even Nani have potential of becoming the same. If the Tevez transfer goes through, the activity this summer is nothing short of mindblowing. For ages we've been screaming for top quality signings. Players supposed to make immediate impact and able to strenghten our first XI, not just functioning as cover. The Glazers are dotting the "i" with this signing. I'm really impressed! I just hope our players are capable of being benched for some games. Shouldn't be a problem though, we have the best manager in the game. I'm REALLY looking forward to the Reading game...

Tevez and Rooney will be like two bulls in a china shop. How many times has Rooney outmuscled defenders, while being almost on the ground, to score in the box? Now Utd will hopefully have two such battlers. Both are also creaters. People talk about attacking fullbacks, Rooney and Tevez are unique in being striker-defenders, tracking back too. Also Utd now have cover for both Ronaldo (Nani) and Rooney. And there is always the Saha/Rooney, Saha/Tevez option to change things. One reason Utd's league win last season was such an achievement was the poor bench Utd had at times -there was no quality cover to change the course of a match. Should Tevez join, Utd could still field the same league-winning team and have a bench of Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson and Tevez. I so hope Tevez joins - I have no doubt that he will become a legend - it will be like having a battling Heinze in his prime who also creates, scores and bangs in free kicks.

Tevez is not being bought. It will be £30m if United decide to keep him and that will be not £30m today it will be a possible £30m in 2 years (plus 3 if the extended loan option is taken).

Plus the fact Nani and Anderson 'might' take 2 seasons to turn into a 'Ronaldo' or they might turn into a 'Kleberson'. Remember him? no because he turn out pants.

So we have bought 1 world class player, loaned 1 world class player and bought 2 possible future world class players.

Roy - to take your point further, what about the following team :

Foster
Neville - Pique - Evans - Heinze
Nani - Hargreaves - Anderson - Park
Rossi - Tevez

I reckon a pretty exciting team and all of them long term injuries last year or new (I know I am pushing my luck a little with Gabby). Either way I think we are looking pretty strong for next year.

This just could be the year that Sir alex has the depth to really keep United performing all season long. No.more sub par performances resulting in a defeat to a relegation bound team.
Retain the title, win the Champions league and wipe that false smirk of the face of a certain chelsea chief executive.

Certainly a fearsome MU 11 whoever is on the field at any time. Chelsea's worried or else they won't be paying so much attention to our additions. SAF must be congratulated for his efforts and management for their support to come up with the funds.

I want to wake up tomorrow and it is August 11th!
If we dont finish the season with two trophies then there is something wrong. This IMO is the greatest united squad ever. We have a bunch of players who could play together for 10 years. Three more years for Fergie to grab as many winners medals as poss and then Keano and kidd can keep the success going.Oh united i do Oh united i do Oh united i love you!!!!!!

What a mess however I assume United's lawyers know what they are doing. It occurred to me that three strikers would do it for United undewr their present system so either Rossi or Saha might go along with Smitty. Lots of balancing to do over the next few weeks.
By the way, the greatest hockey player (Gretsky) who ever lived was once owned by an individual and it was never a problem when he wanted to move on. I'm sure this will get sorted amicably after all the Hammers are lucky to still be playing prem football and he is much too good to be playing City level football.

Can you recall all citys managers since then? Hope its as sweet as you hope watching the ladyboys of Bangkok perform at the Council House next season!
