NEW United winger Nani is confident that United's Portuguese connection will help him settle into life at old Trafford.
The 20-year-old, who passed a medical earlier this week, is looking forward to linking up with compatriots Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Queiroz.
"At least I'll have them to speak Portuguese with!" Nani told
ww.uefa.com. "They will be important, especially in the initial period of adapting to a different country.
"As for the trio [me, Ronaldo and Anderson] playing together, that's up to the coaches to decide. It would be great to play alongside them. They are two of the best players I know so it's a privilege to have them as club-mates."
Nani arrives alongside Anderson - who will join from FC Porto - and Owen Hargreaves.
How do you think the new arrivals will affect the balance of the side? Have your say.

Hope this guy becomes a familiar face in the first team - "The Four Amigo's!!" - what a future - Rooney, Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson - "The Futures Bright, The Futures Red!!!!!!!!!"
We should not only have the right balance but also the right blend of youth and experience, talent and vision, strength in depth and a huge amount of unpredictability which is important when it comes to winning football matches. So assuming Nani and Anderson take this season to settle in I see us having the following line ups at United next season : Van Der Sar, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Neville, Giggs, Hargreaves, Scholes, Ronaldo, Rooney, Saha with Kuszczak, Silvestre, Heinze, Brown, O'Shea, Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Park, Rossi, Smith as back-ups. Now if Heinze does leave this will allow either Pique or Evans a place and if Smith makes way it'll be for another striker who again would just take his place. This season however I think Nani and Anderson will come off the bench when Giggs and Scholes tire and Carrick will be brought in at the expense of Saha when playing away from home to keep us tight in midfield. With the promised speed of our new + existing wingers (and midfield...), will MUFC now be the abbreviation for Manchester United Flying Club?
I was surprised when I read a few articles that said Nani was not as quick as Ronaldo. He is just as quick, and his burst of pace and style in acceleration reminds me of one Michael Essien.
Nani is a far more direct player that Ronaldo, meaning that he doesn't have as many tricks, plus he knows when to lay the ball off, which Ronaldo sometimes struggles to do, hence drving team-mates mental.
He can be an instant hit at Old Trafford, and I believe he will need very little time to settle in.
Premiership defences tactics over the past few seasons was to neutralize the threat from Ronaldo and Rooney, but, now they will have to cope with two more of the worlds best young talents, namely Anderson and Nani.
When all four eventually play together permanently, tell me how will they handle them all?
Manchest United are in the process of building the greatest side the club has ever had, and all going to plan, we will also firmly stamp our name down as the best club in Europe.
Need to learn English straight away. Queiros is an educated person and will guide him like he did with CR. Sometimes the fact of having country men around is not a benefit because you end up just hanging around with them( in this case Carlos is a huge benefit). Andersson and Nani will need to learn parts of the Brittish culture to adapt in and out the football field. I lived in five different countries( incl. the UK) and cant tell you that the first year is allways the hardest. As soon as you learn the language you are a step of integration. To be honest Portuguese and English cultures aren't so different and Andersson had a year in Europe. PL is a tougher competition but both this guys come from clubs that want/have to win matches. Nani and Andersson aren't as much of a diver as Ronaldo was when came to United, so I don't believe that will be a problem. Both CQ and Ronaldo will let them know that is no point to do that. They went to the right club because SAF will introduce them at the right time, like he did with CR. What can i say, I'm looking forward to the comming season.
I hear the new signings have already got a new song that¿s doing the rounds.
"Uncle Malc are you listening?
Check your bank, there's money missing,
The boys have been out,
And splashed it about,
But don't worry there'll be structured payments and a plan to fleece the supporters over the next few years"
Unusual syllable order for a football song but it made me laugh.
i'd compare nani more to kanchelskis. maybe not quite as quick but quick all the same. kanchelskis didnt have any tricks it was his change of direction and bursting into space. I think he'll do well, but i think anderson will do better (his uncle, viv will look after him). The skills of this boy will have us all on our feet for years to come.
Simon, you are the latest of many to say that we have to give them a year to settle in and I must disagree again. For 20 mill quid I want to see results pretty quick and if I don't I'll be giving grief on here.
Of course I don't expect to have to give them any grief because they're already experienced players at CL level and internationals. Strangely enough the ball we play with in the prem is round just like the ones abroad, coincidentely we play on a flat pitch with grass on it, the goals are also the same size and there are so many foriegners in the prem that britishness is only a subtle hint.
The tough matches that we've had against Portuguese teams over the last few years, where we were outplayed several times also points to the fact that unless we force feed them beans on toast and boddies they should have no trouble contributing positively for our push for honours next season.
I expect all the new signings to start at least 20 games and once they get a run it's gonna be tough dropping them.
i know what your saying frank but it does take time to settle into a new team to learns each players movements and settling in with the culture etc. i do however feel they will have a decent impact almost straight away! remember ronnie v bolton :) happy days
Frank Old Trafford - As Demo has said I too know where your coming from mate. I just think that dropping Giggs and Scholes from the team straight away for them wouldn't be as beneficial as letting them come into the team via a few sub appearances, thats all. And I agree that totally with "once they get a run it's gonna be tough dropping them." Support the Team and Live the Dream.....
Agree with everybody, and yes Frank you have the right to say that the ammount of money paid requires that they are up to the task from the beggining. I believe that is fair to ask that.
Quaresma or even Simâo would be able to provide you with that. Nani.....maybe...but from what I have seen from him this season he might shut myself up about "Quaresma being better, blablabla". Last match against Belgium he had the task to replace CR and we all know how difficult that can be plus it was an huge match for Portugal that couldn´t afford to come home without the three points. He did really well by scoring and playing with such a maturity that I can tell you that I didn't miss Ronaldo that much and neither Simâo. To be honest before I was looking for a match without Cristiano just to see how well we could do. He doesn't complicate as much as Ronaldo did at 20 but we all know that Ronaldo did/does that because of his massive potential( allway looking to do something different, I love that). Looks like Arsenal will sign quaresma and to be honest pleases me as much as Nani and Anderson at United. He will enjoy his game at arsenal because they are a young side full of potential with a great coach( sorry guys but I am a bit neytral in the middle of all this). Anderson is a star: as soon as I saw him in Porto I could see his football. He reads the match as well as Scholes but has Ronaldinhos feet and he is also very strong. Nani will develop his physical strengh. Nani is not just a winger in Sporting he also plays at the middle and as a tremendous power when he shots. The PL looks today a better place to be than la liga.
Simon, I think it will be something in between Nani and Mr Anderson just coming on as subs and them being expected to make a big impact right from the off.
For me Scholes and Giggs are first choice alongside Ronaldo and Carrick in midfield at the start of next season, with OH coming in when we play 4231. However, I imagine SAF will want to use Scholes and Giggs more sparingly next season to keep them fresh and while initially I can see the new guys getting a few subs appearances, I think they will also be trusted to start certain games albeit perhaps not together to begin with.
Of course, many of our midfield and attacking players are interchangeable so I'm not suggesting that it will always be a straight swap of Nani for Giggs, Mr Anderson for Scholes.
It's great that Valentinho comes on to share his knowledge of the game in Portugal with us - he is neutral and seems to know his stuff so I am very encouraged by his positive opinions of Nani and Mr Anderson.
Oops, Valtinho - sorry for the misspelling!
Free Red, thanks for that. Here's a reflection on the price hikes from the red great, Jim White.

Roy. That's a good article which just about covers all the main issues the 'All looks good to me' lot fail to see or choose to ignore. It just goes to show there are none so blind as those who will not see who have this "its all about winning trophies" mentality. I also note the quote in the other article.
"Gabriel Heinze and Kieran Richardson are likely to head out of Old Trafford as United attempt to recoup some of their outlay, but Ferguson spent only £18.6 million of a £25 million transfer kitty last summer on England midfielder Michael Carrick, while raising £28 million through sales, so his spree is more a result of good housekeeping rather than the sudden generosity of the Glazer family."
That would be the 'revolving door policy' in action I have been talking about in other threads that some don't even believe exists. I also note the expression 'housekeeping' being used again. The last time I heard that come out of OT the senior debt went up £80 million from £580million to £660million. Watch out for the next refinance package the glazers hope to secure with help from their latest 14% ticket price hike.
no problem Alias, I will never complain about speling( I wouldn't have a chance here). Thanks for your kind words.
