The Bulgarian was monitored by the Reds last summer, but Sir Alex Ferguson didn't pursue the matter and Tottenham signed him from Bayer Leverkusen for £10.9m.
But Berbatov took the Premiership by storm with 23 goals and the 26-year-old is understood to top the United manager's summer shopping list of strikers.
Though he has three more years on his Spurs contract, United will be encouraged by Berbatov's comments.
Speaking ahead of Bulgaria's Euro 2008 qualifier tonight against Belarus, he said: "Of course I like Sir Alex's team. Their style is attacking and pleasant to watch and it coincides with my own style of playing football.
"Giggs, Scholes and Rooney are fantastic players and that fast guy Ronaldo on the right side is a magician with the ball. He plays football from another planet.
"Of course, it would be a pleasure for me to play with these guys; they simply know how to have fun on the pitch."
Berbatov says he is "a happy man" at White Hart Lane and denied he had had any contact with United, saying: "No, I haven't.
"The club (Spurs) gives me everything I need to feel nice."
Do you think United have any chance of tempting Berbatov to United? Have your say.

I think we do want him, but as a few people have already said he would cost a hell of a lot, i reckon between £25m-£30m, and i dunno if we actually have that much to spend now. But then if u throw in Smith u would still be looking at £20m, i think it would be silly to throw in both saha and smudge though as i have heard.

In fact I don't even remember him in the Goodfellas starting line-up, as you mention, maybe you're confusing it when he was with the Untouchables.
Still, more worryingly, he's only made the sub's bench for the Ocean's team in their last two outings.

MUFC are known and supported globally and it is beacause of the revenue brought in from this that we can afford (and attract) star players to the club. Also, if you are actually a MU fan, you will also realise that we are the best team in the world and play a unique, exiting style of football which can't be found elsewhere - if you can't accept 'your team' having fans around the world it is you that should go and support one of the clubs from lower division clubs where you wont have that problem.
As a MU fan in Manchester, I can safely say that we do not all think like Wayneold and I hope you all continue to enjoy MU no matter where you are from.
