And an astonishing 93 per cent of fans say they will not be able to afford a season ticket to watch their team next term, according to a survey.
The face-value price for seats at Saturday's FA Cup final was between £35 and £95 - but touts were selling tickets for up to £2,000. And at £10 a copy, the match programme was the most expensive ever.
With the Premiership clinching a £2.7bn three-year global TV deal, clubs have come under pressure to cut their ticket prices.
The M.E.N's Make It Fair For The Fans campaign has led the way in urging clubs to pass on some of their windfall to the fans, with City, Bolton and Wigan all taking steps to make tickets more affordable.
But the message does not seem to have got through to the FA, judging by the prices charged for their final.
The cost of replica kits and television subscriptions is also an issue.
Loud and clear
And the message coming from supporters is loud and clear: We have had enough.
Two-thirds of fans quizzed by television channel Bravo said they spend as much as £750 a year on extras, including Sky Sports subscriptions, replica kits and going to the pub to watch matches.
Prohibitive ticket prices, along with expensive, overcrowded transport facilities mean more than a fifth (22 per cent) of supporters are going to fewer than five games a season.
And more than nine-tenths of football fans said they would not be able to afford a season ticket next term.
The impact TV has had on the game is blamed by 35 per cent of fans for making it difficult to follow their team, because kick off times are often changed to suit television schedules.
The survey also revealed 57 per cent of those questioned said they felt intimidated at away games in the UK, and 40 per cent were put off following their team in Europe.
Bravo surveyed 3,021 fans.

Its not just Wembley but its no good moaning about the prices. If you think there too high then dont go. Some clubs are reducing their prices because they cannot fill the seats and more tickets sold at a lesser price means more revenue. Mind you I wouldn't watch some of them for nothing. But then when United come to town prices are hacked up again. As for Sky I enjoy the sports channel so I pay for it.
simply just do not go sit and watch it at home.
You cant run a club with no fans now can you, somethings got to happen.
bill in wirrall do you think sky could get away with increasing prices by 54% in 3 years? you already know that answer dont you?
I am fed up of saying this but as long as there is a demand for the product the prices will stay high. When things do go beyond breaking point and people stop buying then they will fall. I saw enough obvious non-fans there for the day/interesting new experience to doubt that this is not going to happen for some time. This is what the politicians call free choice - if you can afford it you can have it and if not, hard luck.
hodie so applying your ecenomic theory to our purchase of hargreaves we should get him on the cheap. after all there is no demand elsewhere to secure his services.
The programme for the Cup Final was £10. What a rip off! Guess what? They sold a record number. In excess of 125,00. Obviously it was too cheap. Next year they will probably be £12. We get what we deserve! How many boycotted the refreshments inside the ground?
£10 for the match programme is good buisness especially for the collector,it was the first ever game at the new stadium where CHELSEA were the FIRST winners of the great trophy, come to think of it CHELSEA were the LAST team to win the trophy in the old Wembley SOME ACHIEVEMENT one would say - congratulations to Jose Mourinho!!!!!!!!
Utd do often pay silly prices for players but are you sure no-one else wants Hargreaves?
Unfortunately we have indicated strongly that we do want Hargeaves while Bayern do not have to sell their "product" as have the option of keeping him as a useful player in their team. Also Utd appear to believe that if the price drops the demand will be there.
There were enough individuals at Wembley purchasing £10 programmes (often 4 at a time) and the £8 beefburgers seemed to be going quite well! There is no doubt that neither represented value for money as many were grumbling as they bought.
I fear the same will happen with Hargreaves.
Erm,excuse me but which club was it that started all this corporate stuff and charging fans for anything sellable eg a new kit every two minutes?
Bobbydazzler, Sky might not get away with a 54% increase in 3 years but United can as 76,000 fans at home games will tell you. So some are prepared to pay. Bodie is right the demand to see United is high and will always be high, but it is too high for me. hence Sky sports which is the cheaper option even with a subscription to MUTV as well. Nothing beats going to OT though and I miss it but I cannot afford it anymore end of story. As for OH he wants to come hear, United want him here hence the high fee and no interest from other clubs.
Lots of United Season ticket holders of longstanding signing up to show their commitment to not renewing at this site:

God Ted Knott, you really drive me up the wall sometimes... NOT!!! Please, your attempts at trying to wind us up are getting lame.. It's really hard to feel sorry for losing the FA Cup when you've already bagged the league, you know.. Especially a cup we've already won 11 times..
Eh tedy bear i can see that bitterness coming through yet again, god its funny.
I wonder when citeh will ever get to a final????nuff said you loser.

I bought programmes because I like programmes and this is no more or less expensive than lots of programmes I have purchased for concerts etc. i did not buy food although I did buy water. Again prices were no higher than they are at similar vvenues for similar events around the world and i don't buy food there either. people can eat before getting there and surely they can survive for 3 or 4 hours without eating further. before i hear complaints about hours travelling I come from Ni, i got up at 4 am and i was not home until very late and i had no problems surviving Wembley without food. if you want to eat at a venue like this yoiu will have to pay, just eat somewhere else and stop moaning
what people say in such surveys and what they actually do aer poles apart
How many other united fans are as disgusted as I am about their new home cup tickets policy? From next season all season ticket holders will be obliged to go on the cup scheme which will automatically take money out of your bank account for cup games, whether you want to go to the game or not. In our section this means a whacking £400 on top of the season ticket of £711 if they are successful in cup competitions. The Glazers are slowly making their presence felt and I fear that the local fans will disappear as the prices are hiked up. There will always be somebody from other parts of the country, if not world, to take the places that we won't be able to afford. As wembley proves, there is also no guarantee of receiving a ticket should united reach a cup final. Football is in a mess as far as treatment of the fans is concerned and with particular regard to united it affects how we feel about the club. When drogba's goal went in on saturday I had mixed feelings. On the one hand I have been a fan for over 40 years so I wasn't happy, but on the other hand I feel that the club is beginning to treat us so poorly that part of me wasn't bothered and I hate to admit that. Come on United, treat your local support with more respect or you will lose them.

wembley should never have been replaced; we didnt need a national stadium managed quite well without it for 7 years and the national team was shared around! If it was going to be built anywhere why not the midlands? Oh i forgot london gets everything including £500 million of transport funding that should have gone to manchester mterolink!!
It's good to see that sad individual whose name i can't even be bothered to type is back on these threads once utd have lost (a final to boot - which City will never be in - not in his lifetime anyway). What pathetic world does this man live in that forces him to be so bitter & twisted. Your scribes used to annoy me but now i actually do feel pity for you & your life.
I O Shaymen, Shaymen, I O !!!!
dromared would be interested to know how you managed to get a ticket
Dromared
What a star you are. Too lazy to pack/buy food the day before or too tired to walk the 10 minutes or so to Wembley High St, which was it? I would also like the same info as Bobbydazzler re tckets.
It should also be mentioned that United fans are also having to pay more money upfront thanks to the Glazers. If you read the smallprint in the season ticket renewals, they will debit the money for all 3 Champions League home group games at the same time early in September.
It's disgracefull. The MEN should be highlighing this rip-off as well.
