7 Van der Sar: Hope the Dutchman had his Factor 25 on because his only concern was sunburn. A few traing ground stops to make but nothing else until his penalty stop.
7 Brown: Easily contained Beasley and no hassle against Vassell. His shift to full back from recent central defensive performances was as comfortable as it can get for the Mancunian.
6 Heinze: The one Red who had a serious contest on his hands at times particularly when his opposite number Onuoha had a go. It was hit and miss for him.
7 Ferdinand: Didn't have to worry about anything that might force him to stretch his groin. It was a stroll for the England defender.
8 Vidic: The big Serb got his head on every City hopeful ball lumped into box and on the ground he was immovable as well.
7 Ronaldo: Had to put up with a lot of uncompromising challenges but he just got on with tormenting Ball. Surviving intact was his biggest derby test.
6 Carrick: Didn't make an impact against a midfield that had little punch. Had acres in which to work but never really used it efficiently.
7 Scholes: Dominated the midfield with ease. He was on the ball more than anyone but despite feeding teammates nothing seriously came of it.
6 Giggs: Had a good first half when he worked well in tandem with Scholes and looked like he could help tear City apart but second half he looked like he was conserving his energy.
5 Smith: United's dominance didn't lead to him seeing much of the ball and spent almost entire derby just chasing around.
6 Rooney: Quiet by his derby standards playing in a wide role. Couldn't wait to be released into Smith's role but only had 14 minutes in his favoured berth.
Subs:
5 Fletcher (sub Smith 73) Saw game out comfortably.
5 O'Shea (sub Rooney 87) Not much to do.
Solskjaer , Richardson, Kuszczak not used.
Goals:
United: Ronaldo (33 pen).
Bookings:
United: Van der Sar (80), Giggs (84).
What do you think? Have your say.

As for giggs, the guys 33 years old and he's played an awful lot of games this season. While park has been injured, fergie hasn't had the chance to rest him as often as was needed. He definately looked like he could do with a day off today, with all the stray passes from him.
If we can get a couple of good signings in this summer, the likes of giggs, ronaldo, rooney and scholes can be rested more often. With the injuries and the thiness of our squad in some areas, that hasn't been possible this season.

However, I just had a quick look on the City page and noticed that Ball was awarded a 7 for his display. It seems that some fans and reporters likewise do appreciate such displays.....disgraceful. To be fair, it seems that at least some City fans have already shown that they were irritated by Ball's actions.

Had United dropped two points today I'd have been livid with out listless performance. True was, I just don't think on reflection that the players had the energy to lift themselves, so, the result was everything.

Wedneday is a big game and there was no need to go all out when the team was exhausted and with Ferdinand and Vidic baclk in the team after injury.
Not the greatest performance, but 3 more points.

You only need to look at liverpools results in the league and their team selection before and after champion league games, to understand that their progress in the champions league was not only down to the so called tactical 'brilliance' of benitez.
Remember that he had given up on all the other trophies a long time ago and focused solely on the european cup. He has played his second string in nearly every other competion to keep his players fresh for the 'big' one. He goes and loses consecutive league games, finds his team way of the pace in the league and knocked out of all the domestic cups, and he gets called a genius because he got to the european cup final. what a joke. I'll just love it if they get beat in athens.
United and chelsea haven't had the luxury of resting most of their first team before and after the champions league fixtures, because they have both tried to win every competition they have entered. In addition injuries have meant that they were unable to rest even a handfull of players without risking losing games. It seems benitez wasn't too bothered if he lost games in the league or FA cup, because he was saving his lads for the champions league. Mourinho was right when he called liverpool a cup side.
So to those giving our lads a hard time for not being on top their game after such a difficult and physically draining season, give them a break. They're not superhuman, particularly those like giggs and rooney who have had to play in nearly all the games.
Last point, everyone in the press is lauding chelsea because they have had a 'tremendous' season considering 'all' the injuries they had to endure while fighting on '4' fronts. What about us? Its funny how the same consideration hasn't been given to our efforts this season. We lost ALL of our defense at the business end of the season while we were still fighting on 3 fronts. I would have liked to see how milan and liverpool would have coped with all of their first choice defenders in the stands during the games against us and chelsea. They would have got hammered thats for sure. Kaka and Gerard would have spent most of the match in their own halves helping out their defence while we pummelled them. But instead, milan become this dream team because they came up against a creaky old second string united defence. A defence that has leaked in more goals in the last few months as our first choice back four did in the early past of the season. Kind of puts liverpools and milans 'great' achievement into persepctive.

Giggs, Rooney and Ronaldo should all be rested, and make way for players like Eagles, Dong etc.. It would be exciting to see how Dong adapts to the tempo of the premiership. He's got the pace, and seems smart and clinical in his finishing (ref. presesason goals). It all comes down to if he's ready mentally.

We have a great forum and nearly all in that forum have said this....it is so demonstrative....
He have given all for that Club, his health for example, and now there are alsways some people and also journalists, which were writing and thinking rubbish about him!!!
Please make your eyes wide open...he is brilliant and passionat like no one else in the defence...and look on Vidic for example...or Rio...it seems nealry so, that they can make mistakes, but they are holy, OR???
It makes me more and more angry, also all of our fan-board!!!
Give him a chance and see also the good things, he do for ManU!!!
Say thank you also to him, he has earned it!
